I am on a worker's visa, expiring Jan. 31, 2010. Has anyone successfully applied for an extension as a visitor, just to wait for the CEC result? Thanks in advance, and happy holidays!

I have seen post from one guy on this forum who and successfully obtained it..
You can even get a open work permit.. Check section 5.26 on Page 36 and Page 69 (R208) of the federal skilled worker manual http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/...

Seems like CEC applicants are not among those qualified for the open permits, though....did I misread?

I am the same here. Mine expiring on Jan 10, 2010 and i just sent out my changing status from work permit to visitor visa app. online. I called CIC and this is what they told me to do so i guess should be fine

you can apply for it online as well, check the media section of the cic website for this announcement

Hi there.
My worker's visa expired at the end of last year, (applied for a new LMO, but was refused) so I sent a extension as a visitor, and I said I was waiting for the CEC result. I sent it more than 2 months ago, but I have no received any answer yet though.
I had my medicals done in November and I'm just waiting for the passport request. I hope it comes this week! :)

Hey everyone, i got my visitor visa today, they sent it out on Feb 03 2010...it doesn't take 81 days...i have waited around a month only !!!

Congrats on that, thank you for posting here. You mean you've got visitor status paper? As I know you have to apply for visa at outside office like Buffalo or Detroit. Or you had applied to office out of Canada for status change?
Their site says 73 days now at Vegreville (Visitor Extension or change of Conditions), so how comes it could be so fast?
What explanation did you provide and what did you use as support documentation? So many questions.. Thanks for answering.

Hi, my work permit expired on Jan 10 2010 so i have to change my status to visitor to stay in Canada to wait for my PR. I applied on MyCIC so i have no idea where did it go to.

Cool, yeah, I know they have online service now, did you send any support docs or just stated your wp is expiring and you need to wait until pr application is complete?

since i have to do the samething i will highly appreciate it if you can please elaborate on how you put the application together for this and what suppporting documents did you include with it. Thanks!

First, you will have to get a MyCIC account and start the application...Name, address and all that. For the reason of staying i put "Applying PR under Canadian Experience Class, changing status from work permit to visitor visa..." Last, you have to upload 3 photos
1. Passport and page showing most recent entry stamp
2. Fee Receipt
3. Bank statement showing how much you have
and i got my visitor visa in one month...now i just gonna wish my PR come soon!

i got it for only 6 month because my passport expired on July 2010

Hi
From reading the above it would seem you have applied for a visitor visa while waiting for PR to come through, as your work permit has expired. I want to extend my work permit to cover the time it takes for my PR to come through - so wish to apply for a work permit extension - is this different to the visitor one? I need to stay working here until I get PR in August but my work permit expires in April.
