I currently live in the USA and would like to visit my husband. Our PR application is submitted. Will applying for a visit visa during this time, affect the processing time for the PR? Is it possible to apply for a visit visa while the PR for spouse under Family Class is in-process?
Has anyone been in a similar such scenario?

Nope, Won't affect at all. My husband and I travel back and forth all the time between Canada and the UK, US is similar - no issues at all.

hi there well from what people have told me i dont have to appy for a vistors visa, as im from a country that does not need it. I havent booked my ticket yet and when i do it will be a return ticket and that will be kinda like my vistors visa along with my passport. You are the same with been from the us, so i dont think you need to appy for a vistors visa just book your airline ticket with it been a return ticket and be honest with the boarder officers in canada. Read the othe rpost on here like i have done and you will get alot of idears and help.

Airline tickets aren't "visitors visa"... you are a kiwi (New Zealand Citizen) and are entitled to an automatic visitors visa (unless you are deemed unworthy or has existing negative record) ..
For the original poster, if he is a US permanent Resident or citizen, then he can come to Canada without applying for a visa (same as NZ, Australia, and other countries not requiring a visa)

Hi, am neither a citizen/PR of the USA. I am on a work permit, and I would definitely need a visitor visa for Canada. In the earlier two cases, they are either Canadian or NZ citizen, so i believe a visitor visa is not needed.
I have just submitted the PR application, is it a good idea to apply for the visitor visa right away or should i wait until I hear from the embassy as to the acknowledgement of the application?
Suggestions/pointers plz.

You can do either... the spousal PR is not that long anyway, so I would recommend you wait for it... but if you need to come here asap, then a visitor visa is what you need.
