Has eneyone waited this long after the medical tests?

Hi everyone,

I have been waiting for almost 8 long months (June 10, 2009) since the medical test results have reached the CHC Singapore. There has been no news for PPR yet. The only thing that they bother to say is that my application is pending security and background checks.

Has anyone out there been waiting for the same length of time or even longer? How long more should I wait? And, are the CAIPS Notes of any help at this stage?

Thanks for your inputs.

to aghijan:

Here are my insights (I posted in other thread) on background checks, hopefully this helps. CAIPS will only show whether it's cleared/pending/refused. It won't show how long will it take. From what I've seen it's usually 12 months for people from Iran, but could be less or more of course.

"6-21 months (or more, as evident by some cases) after medicals for passport request if you're "lucky" to be chosen to undergo background check.

Best info I've found so far explaining issue: http://www.roadtocanada.com/forums/showthread...

Nothing can be confirmed for sure, 'cause the background check process is classified.

You see, she mentions 9 and 12 month checks also. I've noticed pattern in bc cases. Usually pprs come after particular periods of time, which matches with bc's being available in 6-9-12-15-18-21 month versions depending on level of scrutiny. Give them some delay and you can poll status of your case every 3 months, say after 7-10-13... months after medicals were sent."

i waited 9 months after medical man.

However in my case they never said case is in bc or sc. They always said, file is in process and we cannot tell you whats going on.

Thanks a lot for your 'in-depth' answer, Flaring. It is somehow very disappointing. With all the things said in that link, I guess I can't expect my PPR request, if any!, in 2010 and I should look forward to it next year: 21 months!!!

Hello,

I waited 8 months after I sent medical tests. There was no update from Buffalo office. My medicals are going to expire also.

Good that all is well now. Unless CIC informs an applicant that they are awaiting results of security check, one can't be absolutely sure that this is what's going on during the wait. 21 months is a bit too long time for results to come in!!

My medical results reached at buffalo office on May 10,2009 and after that no information. We don´t have any other option so just wait and pray, don´t ask how long, nothing can help .All depends on luck.

But don't be discouraged! The longest checks are quite rare with the majority of bc's being 6-12 months.

It sounds really scary. Can't we have a better and more efficient system to get a response on our already clear crystal backgrounds? We provide almost everything. Police check certificates, for instance, must say it all. Now I do respect them to go through other ways to cross check our backgrounds, but for how long? I applied back in 2005, almost 5 years younger and more energetic. Today, 5 years later, I'm just losing my hope as to how long more I should turn on the machine every morning and check the d. email box and see nothing until Friday. Then, the same d. story almost happens every week.

I sometimes ask myself is that really worth it? I wish we were in a position that we would never ever think of migrating and moving somewhere, where there are yet more uncertainties awaiting us; where we are going for the sake of a better future for our beloved kids so that they won't go through the same headaches and humiliations we do for applying for a tourist visa or study visa to such and such countries.

is it possible that even under the new rules that background checks can take more than a year? It is 10 months now after the medial and still no good sign from Buffalo..

I think BC's are not affected by the rest of it, it's a "bonus" processing some get. What do they reply for your inquires?

Not long ago, I saw one of the applicants contacted CSIS and got a reply on his inquiry. Does that help to know if they have or have not made a decision on your application?

Can anyone furnish me with an email or something through which I can inquire about my application?

Cheers

to aghijan:

I'm not sure, you can try that. But one person posted he had contacted CSIS 'cause of his background check and they had told him he had no open file pending on him at CSIS that moment. Later he inquired CIC, but they told him the same-- background check is pending.

I'd probably start digging it. It doesn't seem reasonable to me the don't provide any timeframe, despite likely the depth and length of check you undergo is determined even before it starts.

I can't agree more. I know we aren't in a position to question them but at least we can find out where we're standing.

Does anyone know how I can send an inquiry regarding my application to the CSIS people?

Thanks a lot buddy. I'm doing my best to calm down and just wait and sail through this period of time. I guess I shouldn't bother myself applying for CAIPS Notes. Yesterday, as in the previous months (they received my medicals on June 10, 09), I decided to drop them a line; but, later I decided not to. I wish you and the rest of the long-waiting folks success and best of health.

hi all,

I know some think which may help u.Remember that when u done your medical for example 1 jan 2009.it is valid upto 1 jan 2010.
so they must give u visa before 1-jan-2010 as u must have to land before the expire of the medical.(u all know medical is valid for a year)
i hope u understand my point.
i wish all u people best of luck.

rimmy
warmly welcome any comments

Sometimes they may give "grace period" and issue visa for 1-2 months beyond expired medicals after a long background check. I personally know such case.

It's great to hear that, Sameer. While I wish you and your family a happy and successful life in Canada, may I ask if you have any idea why it took you 10 months to receive the PPR? I'm close to 9 months of wait.

Did anyone receive emails from the Canadian embassies on Saturdays or Sundays?

It's not in here, but he was on 12-month bc and basically his medicals expired or were up to expire within days and they gave him visa with expire date beyond medicals so he has landed, the case was in Buffalo. I was hoping that there won't be background check for me and was waiting for ppr very soon after medicals, but now I'm just trying to go on with life and don't obsess about it as nobody knows how long it will take. As your country is not on their fav's list, bc for the most cases takes 6-9-12-15 months.
