Landing without leaving Canada

Hi All,
I am already in Canada and just sent my passport to CIC yesterday to issue my visa. Is there any way to land without leaving Canada?! It's a pain in the neck to apply for a US visa, and costs money and time. At the end, it's only a 20 minutes paperwork! I do not seem to underestand what's the point of leaving the country and coming back, while it could be done easily at a local government office. Please help if there is a way to get around this issue.

Steve,
I am also wondering the same thing, in final stages for PR but also don't want to have to leave and come back in if at all possible - have been living here for 1 year already. Let me know if you find anything out

We just got our visa and my husband who is already working in canada went to the boarder and completed his landing. According to him the process was so simple and it just took a few hours to do that.

For those that will land while in Canada

You can go to Rainbow bridge, try to park your car in one of the small roads adjacent to the bridge.
I preferred to walk than to use my car.

Take the pedestrian entrance to USA ,Remember u will have to pay a toll 2(quater) 50 cent to cross the bridge

Enjoy the walk i was their at night about 10:00.....

Then once reach US (entry post) stay in the pedestrian line ...its quite confusing with the bus passenger line....

they will give u a refusal letter to us

take the letter and go back to the Canadian border...same way u came

you do not have to pay 50 cents again :)

once u are back show the office the docs, the will make u cross the road and meet an immigration office

they will chk your docs

in my case they asked some question to my status in Canada:P\

after that they ask me to sit, 10 mins later they call me and sign some paper

told me that i landed

to ScarbKing:

You can land at the border or any local CIC office. You can visit this URL for more clarification: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/.... Hope this helps...

Thanks Congo,

That is the most valid information I have received, I can now breathe again and just wait for finalisation of our PR and now know what the next step after that is. As I am from SA it would have meant having to get a visa just to go into the USA and come back into Canada. Shew

When you get back youiur passport, CIC tells you about your options. ,Here are all options you have:
1- Leave Canada and come back to land at a port of entry
2- Call one of CIC offices in Canada to make an appointment for landing

However those CIC offices usually take long time to get in ( 2-3 months, even 4 months ). As a part of (1), you can do the so called "flag-poling", which was explained above by ScarbKing. The US refusal letter, as far as I researched, probably would not negatively affect you later on in your US applications. But it's a formal refusal letter. They record your information and give you a letter which reads " The following alien(s) were refused entry to United States ". No mark in your passport though. The file that they open for you there is exactly same file that they create for everyone who attempts to enter US without having legal documents like a visa. The good thing is that at some part they write reason of refusal is landing in Canada. I should add that the process of questioning from US side greatly depends on the fact that citizen of which country you are. Specially if your home country is one of those which does not have good relationship with US, they might question you for long hours, asking surprised questions, photographing, fingerprinting, ...In this special case I definitely would not recommend this route. If you are not on rush, the best way to make an appointment with a CIC office.

Wow, and your documents where received September 14??? These guys is Pretoria have no idea on the amount of torture that they put us thru hey....But seriously how long do the background checks take?? it just surprises me. cause its clearly over 2 months. I hope that they wont require another set of medicals because my hubby 's medicals expire in February and at the rate at which these guys are going it keeps me wondering and scared.Where did you apply for your visitor's visa?Did they not question you because of the spousal application?just curious on how you did the visitors visa application because we thought they would deny us automatically. Please as soon as you hear anything please update me. Its driving me crazy.I was hoping that he would be here for xmas.

Hey, Pretoria phoned me this morning because they could not get a hold of my hubby, he was out of town for a week and apparently they were trying him for a week and no luck so they ended up phoning me. You wont believe it apparently on the forms we forgot or missed to write my hubby 's job titles so they asked him to fax that information A.S.A.P to continue with the application.I hope that means he will be here for xmas. have you heard anything yet?I honestly thank God that now we have heard something and hoping its the last step. Update me if you heard anything.

Hi Madue,
Sorry I forgot my password and then my computer crashed, all back and running now.
Nope I have not heard anything more.
I sent an email enquiry asking them about it and got that automated reply that says they will come back to me within 90 days if my question is valid and the expected time frame has been exceeded (something to that effect)
Going into 9th month now.

Hi, to answer your question, we applied for visitor visa which were declined twice and then granted on the third application after an interview. You have to tell them that you have dual intent and plan on applying for immigration to Canada as well. No one told us not to do it this way and we did. I am married to a Canadian and still my visa got declined twice, so it can be a difficult process.

Hey Madue,
Was away in Toronto for a week. I just received a letter from Pretoria today, dated 26 November.
CANNOT believe this, it says
Your and your daughters medicals have expired, you need to redo these within 90 days (and attached the forms)
You also need to send in an updated police clearance certificate for yourself (MISSION! this has to be applied for in SA not here and now I have to find out where to do the fingerprint form etc etc etc)
I had emailed them to ask how my case was going and now just received this (no reply to my email though), so guess this is it.
Not sure why they wait so long till things expire, when I went for my interview last year before getting a temp visa the official told me to do my medicals before I left which I did do. So I just keep hoping now.
Have a look at the tracker there is some guy in SA who went through Pretoria and got full sponsership and PR in 88 days????

Wow I am so so sorry this is madness... thats alot of money we are talking about??? I assumed their silence menat they were working on the papers and would not request for anymore information. Why wait for this long though?? This is torture for real.. wow... Its so amazing how pretoria works and its hard to know how they do their follow ups. Be positive and keep your head up.. Do not give up.. At least you are here as a family. I can't imagine what you are thinking.. but hey it will be over soon... though.
Take care and enjoy the christams

master master,

Hey how are you holding up?? Hoping you are good and less stressed. I can only imagine, the stress. On the good note they finally requested for my hubby 's passport. So there is hope, I am sure as soon as they receive the medicals and all. They will process the papers A.S.A.P. Its a long wait but worth it at the end. Take care and Happy holidays....

Merry Christmas to you too, wonderful news that they asked for your hubby's passport - how long did that take? Did he have to redo medicals?

Perhaps mine is taking longer because I am in Canada already?

Have redone medicals and sent a request to SA Police for new clearance certificate so now again just waiting. Had to in the meantime also apply for a visa extension again. All in all this whole process has cost us over R50 000, from 1st initial visa request up to now with new medicals etc.

Still just praying and hoping - would love to be able to work, so frustrating sitting at home all day.

Its amazing news and the wait has been crazy though... so my application was received by Pretoria April 8/09, then August 12/09 is the time they would have made the decision however we had not submitted a clear copy of the birth certificate then they sent us a letter dated August 12/09, received the letter September 29/09. Then we sent them the documents back by DHL and they received that October 8/09. Then RSA called Nov 23/09 because we had omitted something. We sent a fax the same day. They they requested my hubby 's passport Dec 18/09. Crazy process hey.. The waiting is the most consuming. My hubby 's medicals expire is February so at least we did not have to re do them... I am sure after they receive the medicals and all it should not be too long. be patient( I know its difficult) you are almost there though.

Hi Madue,
Sorry I keep forgetting to go online with this and then see your old messages. No response yet - I am still waiting for SA to issue my new PCC. I phone them everyday. They say they got it on 28th Dec and then it is 6 weeks so I must call again on Monday (this is the last thing I need for Embassy). On a positive note the MLA here checked my file for me and they have my new medical results already and all fine- says the next date to check my file is 24 Feb, so I just need to make sure my PCC is there in time. I have to get someone in SA to fetch it from Pretoria SAPS and take it to the embassy for me.
