Hi! It seems that the embassy is moving lots of things along quickly this month! You can't see it from this board but I'm on others where people are reporting. I think I'm addicted to this stuff! You should be hearing something any day now! Best of luck.

Thanks! My SO's interview is on tuesday (june 16) and we both have our fingers crossed that it goes well.

Great! Best of luck for tomorrow! Let us know how it went. And if you don't mind sharing, when did he get the call?
Posted by solongtowait on 15 Jun 2009
Thanks! Everyone is super excited its been a really long wait. Said got an email on the 9th of June about the interview.

Hubbie had interview this morning and is really happy. It lasted about 25 minutes and he said they were fairly nice to him. They asked a lot of questions including:

How did you meet? How many times has your wife visited? (he got this one wrong! He said five and the immigration officer told him that it was six) Where will you live in Canada? Was your wife's mother happy about the wedding? Do you family like your wife? Has the marriage been consumated? What does your wife do for a living? What is she studying? What are her siblings names? What do her parents do? Why do you want to go to Canada?

There were also a lot of questions about the wedding and the officer apparently liked all the kaftans and said it looked like a beautiful wedding. She then asked about who paid for and arranged the wedding and if he had bought me any gifts for it.

Overall he seems to think it went well and is going back later today with more photos which he didn't bring to the interview.

If anyone wants any more detail let me know. I have my fingers totally crossed. Its been really stressful waiting and its hard seeing people with dates before us getting approved. All my friends and family who couldn't go to Marrakesh for the wedding are also really looking forward to meeting him.

Sounds like everything went really well! Did they let him know if he had been accepted or not? Did they request his passport? Will he have to redo the medical?

I know it's hard to see people getting called with dates after yours. Did you write to the embassy to "push" them a little or just stay patient and wait? We hit the 7 month mark in less than two weeks and as soon as that is up, I plan to write to them. I'm travelling to Marrakech (my husband is from there too) in July and coming back to Canada mid-August so I'm hoping they will interview him during the 3 weeks I'm there. I've got my fingers and toes crossed for you!

Thanks! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too! Its nice to know someone else is going through the same thing and we're not just stuck in our how private beurocratic hell. They didn't let him know anything. I'm not sure about the passport but I'll ask later - the email he got about the interview told him to bring it. I don't think he'll have to redo the medical but I'm not sure as I don't know the date he had it done.

I should have pushed a bit but didn't I wasn't sure if it was help but I was getting ready to do it. I hope you have a nice trip! I'm really jealous Said's sister (who is ten) keeps calling me and asking me to come and see her and I feel so bad when I can't.

Perhaps we'll all get some good news soon and move on to having full fledged in person marriages.

There are lots going through this! I'm on 3 other forums where people talk about this stuff all the time! Yes, it's good not to feel so alone but I also tend to get a little obsessive about the whole thing! LOL

I'm not going to push "hard", just a reminder for them. Hello! We're here and we're waiting! This upcoming trip to Morocco will be my 9th! Can you believe that? Ugh! I like it there but I just want to bring him home with me so we can start our married life so I definitely know how you feel. I met him 2 years ago while on vacation and never would have believed at that time that I would be going through all of this! Funny how life takes you to strange places. Our 1 year wedding anniversary is July 23rd and I arrive in Marrakech on the 22nd so it will be nice to be together for that. I suppose it's better than nothing!

The medical is only good for 1 year. If it has expired he will have to do it again. My husband's expires September 1 and given the slow pace that they are moving, we expect to have to redo it. I will be happy if I have him here by the end of September. He can enjoy a Canadian winter with me! LOL! But we are in Vancouver so it won't be so bad.

You must be on pins and needles now but at least this hurdle is done! Stay hopeful and positive!

I've seen some of the forums but try to avoid them because they make me neurotic and a bit paranoid. Too many 'what ifs' but I suppose that's natural in the circumstances.

The 9th? Wow I live in vancouver too and I don't think I could have done that 9 times. I've gone for a couple of longer trips and then flown over when I was in Europe. Yeah Marrakesh is nice but I really want to show Said my life and my home. I've also had real problems with my stomach over there which I can do without. You;re lucky you'll get to be together on your anniversary. Do you have special plans? Ours in July 6 and barring some really speedy visa work we'll be apart.

I think he did his medical in late july or early august I'll have to ask. Maybe it'll be an indian summer here the weather certainly has been nice lately.

You know having something happen is really nice I don't think we'll get denied, but then you never know, and an end seems to be in sight. I was just really hoping it would be sooner than this. I'm starting grad school in the fall and its going to be really hectic so I was hoping we could have a lazy summer exploring BC.

So Said went back to the consulate to give them more photos and they gave him back his passport but the lady told him he should stay in Rabat for a few days because they'll have news for him soon. He said she was smiling so hopefully this is good news.
Posted by rjessome on 16 Jun 2009
Oh I hope so!!!!! But I guess it irks me a little that they would ask him to stay in Rabat for a few days, like he has nothing to do! Well I suppose they have all the power so what can you do? But hoping for you that he will NOT have to redo the medical and you can get him here at least to enjoy part of the summer before you go back to school! I'm in school now too and I'm actually studying immigration law. Go figure.

Funny how our husbands are from the same city and we are too. LOL! Maybe when they both finally get to Canada we can get them together. I know quite a few Moroccans in Vancouver, many from Marrakech so there is a community here for them although it's small.

I hope you hear some good news in the next few days! Please keep us updated!

It kind of irks me too but then the whole system is very like that. You put up with the invasivness of it and the lack of communication and you cross your fingers. His Aunt lives near Rabat and his mom has gone with them so i think they may have been planning a small visit anyway. I really hope things turn out ok redoing the medical would be crappy.

It must be interesting to get some first hand experience of the immigration system if you;re studying it. Its quite the coincidince. I think it would be nice for our hubbies to know someone from back home. I don't know any other Moroccans here and I've been kind of worried he'll feel lonely or alienated because of the cultural differences.

I'll keep you posted on what happens and hopefully it'll be something good.

Called to ask husband to pick up our documents (photos, phone bills ect.) no other news.

Happy Canada Day! I hope you hear something very soon!
Posted by solongtowait on 02 Jul 2009
Thanks!

However it was a not so happy Canada day. Said was denied his visa on Tuesday.

Oh my God! I am soooooo very sorry. Look, a friend of mine just won an appeal with Rabat and her husband just got issued a visa yesterday. I am almost finished my immigration consulting program at UBC so we can help you. Please email me at rjessome@ymail.com whenever you feel up to it. I am so so sorry.
Posted by rjessome on 10 Jul 2009
