Hi Rama,
I have seen the information you gave d00b on the site immigrationwatch, and gone to that site. Theat site seems to be useful for people like us. However, do you know anything about its reliability since it is not an official site?
Thanks

Sorry I was not paying attention to this part of the page. More or less all of them are same, in how much of time it take to complete.
I have seen people writing to congressmen, senators, first lady (in fact it has become so popular these days that first lady is now mentioned as FL as RD,ND and LUD). But most of them just facilitate you with the information, they can not expedite the case, unless it is a life and death issue (and USCIS will decide it is a life and death issue - you have got no say here, even if it is your life). The information you get can and can not used, you can go for an infopass and show the letter from FL saying that it is completed, but at the infopass that lady/gentleman will say it is not updated on our system, so wait for some more time. That is what most of us are doing waiting?
The problem here is transparency, you got channels to accommodate transparency but it is a big hassle, in effect it is not transparent.
Check for my posts on this site, I think I did write about the name check and background check?
good luck with your GC

hope 2007 and others,

There are two issues involved here. One is the FP background criminal check, which basicaly checks for the criminal record, DUI, felony, assault, etc. Your name check has nothing to do with your biometrics at all. The FP and the Name Check are two separate things. The Name Check is run against a FBI database consisting of names that might potentially pose a threat to "national security." If any part of your name scores a hit in their supercomp database, then your name will be subject to additional verification by FBI officers manually. This is where it takes more time because of staffing issues, somebody may not look at your file for a long time. However, if any part of your name does not score a hit, you will be cleared in 72 hrs. Also note that if you have long name or if you a common name or if you work in sensitive areas (with security implications), it might take longer for the NC to clear.
