Welcome to the club, makeamark! Looks like your timing is very similar to ours. Hope we both hear some good news soon!
Posted by tovan on 28 Jan 2007
Forgot to ask:

Is your file still residing in Buffalo, or has it been transferred to another visa office? Ours has been transferred to the New York City office as of 11/15/06 - no word since then. We are also utilizing an immigration attorney - and you?
Thanks!
Posted by makeamark on 28 Jan 2007
We have not heard anything about being transferred to NYC so still in Buffalo. From what I've heard NYC is moving quite quickly, so I think you are in luck having been transferred. We have not used an attorney but did get advice from an immigration advisor in Halifax. I'm not sure how much he reallyhelped or hurt as our application was complicated. May I ask what you are self-employed in and where do you plan to go in Canada? What age group? When was your AOR date? I haven't found any other self-employed applicants to share with so your response is welcomed!

Sorry for not responding sooner, makeamark! I haven't checked back here very often, I guess. (Actually the email notifier thing didn't work for some reason!)
Hope you're right about the New York office moving quickly! We just had our attorney contact them to see if they needed more information - A nice "nudge" I hope.
I am in real estate sales here in the States, although not doing much right now with the crappy market! My partner and I have purchased a very small condo in Vancouver,BC and will relocate there upon PR status. Ages 54 & 55, AOR 11/7/05 so we're ready for some movement anytime, eh?
If you would respond with the same questions, that would be great.

Good luck to all of us!

Good to hear back! We are fine artists and hope to settle in Nova Scotia on the Northumberland Strait. We also hope to farm there. We are now 56 and 58. Just called my Halifax advisor to see if he could get any feedback on application status. Haven't heard a word back one way or the other from him either. The wait is long and frustrating when you have dreams of getting settled and involved in your new home/country! Our AOR was 12/15/2005.

Hopefully we will all hear something soon - Looks like you are within just a couple of weeks of us.

Guess you can see our progress - if any - under the "tovan" case on the Federal Business Class Tracker main page . . .

No news for you either? Man, these folks take a long time!!
Posted by makeamark on 15 Mar 2007
No, no word yet. I am discouraged by the business timelines which say that only a third of the cases are finalized within 36 months! We're nowhere near 36 months--and that's only a third. Though someone in the other forum I "attend" (immigration.ca) got word that their case may be looked at by July and they were transferred out of Buffalo to San Francisco I think. So maybe by this summer.
Posted by tovan on 15 Mar 2007
So do you really think it will take 36 months? God, I hope not!! Our attorney was pretty sure it would be 14 - 18 months from AOR date. Other folks I follow in blogs - but they all went as skilled workers - run about that time frame. Of course from Nov. 7, 2005 to March of 2007 we're at, what, 16 months already. Damn!!

Makeamark:

Details, details!! Documents requested?? Yay!! Medicals?? Interview waived??

Good for you guys!
Posted by makeamark on 27 Mar 2007
They've requested financial documents, proof of funds, and proof of farm experience or farm management. Nothing yet about medicals or interview. I'm sure they want to wait to see if we continue to meet criteria for self-employed.
Posted by tovan on 27 Mar 2007
Well, at least it's progress of some sort. Still no word on ours since the file was transferred to New York City. The proof of funds sounds like a movement forward . . . .
Posted by tovan on 01 Jun 2007
Thought we'd let you know that we got our IA from the New York Consulate. They requested medicals, proof of investment funds, and updated applications. No interview required, nor were updated FBI certificates. Finally some movement!
Posted by makeamark on 02 Jun 2007
Wow, great! You are really on your way!

On April 27 we sent 97 pages of certified copies of additional documentation and haven't yet heard more. I wonder when they wil be reviewing it? There wasn't an IA or a request for medicals. We are anxiously waiting to hear what's next. I have been in touch with the province and they feel that they can help us if we are not successful for some reason at the federal level. However it would cost us more application fees and more waiting though a much quicker process.
Posted by tovan on 02 Jun 2007
We'll keep our fingers crossed that the Buffalo office contacts you soon. It seems there is no rhyme nor reason as to how these applications progress. Very random based on individual file reviewers. I'll post further progress as "tovan" in the Federal Business thread. Good Luck!
Posted by makeamark on 09 Sep 2007
We received our IA last week!! Can't find a date on it, though, to gauge our FBI and medicals deadlines from. We were just about to be nominated by the province as a parallel process when I got the packet. Sent in fingerprints the otherday to FBI and have medicals on the 25 of this month. Where are you in the process. Cant add my IA to the time line as there is no date.
Posted by tovan on 09 Sep 2007
Our medicals were received in Ottawa on 7/17. No word since then, so we don't know if there will be follow-up medical stuff - like a lot of folks - or what.

So, again, we wait . . . .
Posted by makeamark on 12 Oct 2007
Tovan--have you gotten any word about your medicals? e-cas change to medicals received? Passport requests? other tests or documents/Interview required after all? It's been a long time wsince your medicals went in!

Funny you asked! Just this week, we arranged for our "proof of investment" to be forwarded to the CIC through our bank and attorney's office. Our attorney has advised us that we should expect a request for our passports for the visa issuance within 4 - 6 weeks, so it appears we are getting very close. There was no formal acknowledgment of the receipt of the medicals, but our attorney assures us that the consulate would not request "proof of investment" if there were any problems with them.

Any news on your end?
Posted by tovan on 26 Oct 2007
Thought I would let you know: We got our request for passports today - issued from the New York Consulate on 10/23. No word about the medicals at any time, so we guess all was OK. Now we need to send the passports and photos for the issuance of the visas. Yippee!! It looks like 2 years, as our AOR was 11/5/2005. What a journey . . . .
Posted by makeamark on 27 Oct 2007
That's terrific! So, "ecas" never changed to"medicals received"? When are you planning on landing?

We don't have an attorney and don't know whether our process would have been helped by one. It is and has been a difficult journey and hard to weather each new bump. Hopefully we are through them all and now waiting for our PP request too. We hope.

Good luck to you!!
Posted by tovan on 27 Oct 2007
No, ECAS has not changed since we were notified back in November of 2006 that our file had been transferred to New York City. I don't think having an attorney accelerated the process at all. In fact, in our case, I think it delayed it a bit based on info. the consulate asked me directly for, and the attorney's office said the request wasn't in the correct format. At that point, I began emailing the consulate directly and the process seemed to move a bit quicker. Of course, we don't have the visas in hand, but if we overnight them on Monday we are hoping to have them back by US Thanksgiving at the latest. As for landing, we're looking at April of 2008 unless they don't give us that long. From what we're seeing, it is typically the anniversary of your medical exam that you must land by. (As a sidelight, are you a same-sex couple as we are? Just curious . . . . ) We chose April as we are driving across the continent with our dog and we didn't want to chance any bad weather going through the mountains out West.

It goes without saying "Good Luck" to you, too! I'll check back when we actually get the visas in hand. Hope you hear good news soon!!

As info, I checked eCAS today just to see if they had updated anything. They did show "medicals received". Big deal - according to FEDEX tracking, they were received on July 17, 2007. Not too current, eh? We sent the photos and passports in on October 30, so we are expecting visas back within the next week or two.
Posted by tovan on 14 Nov 2007
Got the visas yesterday!! Hope yours comes soon! As info, the "land by date" is as we expected: the one year anniversary of when you had your medical exams.
Posted by makeamark on 14 Nov 2007
Wonderful!!! Good luck to you both! No word yet for us.
Posted by tovan on 23 Dec 2007
Still no updates, I guess.

Have a good Holiday Season!
Posted by makeamark on 24 Dec 2007
No, still waiting. Our medicals were uploaded to Buffalo from Ottawa on Novemeber 28 and we got definitive word that hey were being reviewed by an IO on December 12 but nothing since then. We are very anxious and frustrated. Cell phone contracts are up and our NYC lease has to be renewed or not. Now it is the holidays. Perhaps we will hear anyway.
Where are you now in the final process??
Good holidays to you both!
Posted by tovan on 24 Dec 2007
Hopefully, the IO will give you a holiday present soon! I've been on a month-to-month cell phone contract for awhile now. Maybe you can do the same and the landlord will work with you??? Oh yeah, it's NYC - probably not, eh?

We have received our passports back with the PR visa included - Yay!! Our plan now is to fly to Vancouver in February to "land" and spend a week visiting friends, etc. Then we will load the U-Haul and dog in May, probably, to move out there. We are going to have to maintain property in Florida until - and if! - the real estate market ever recovers so we can sell it. So, unfortunately, we will have to retain ties to the US even though we don't want to . . . .
Posted by tovan on 26 Jan 2008
Hey, Congrats on the PPR! What's with the 6-week delay between when it was issued and you getting it, though? Talk about frustrating.

Glad you two finally got some good news. Now, when do you plan on making the move? We're flying up to land next month, but will not physically move 'til late spring/early summer.

Cheers!
Posted by tovan on 18 Feb 2008
Hey, just see where you two got your visas - Great news!

My partner and I are in BC right now for a few more days - flew up to land and do a few things before the move in June.

Glad you finally got the paperwork completed!
Posted by makeamark on 18 Feb 2008
Yes, what a relief! Now if all the other details could come together we could plan our landing/moving time more specifically. If only the US dollar value and real estate market would improve! Do you know where you are going to be settling? How did your landing go and how long were you in Canada after landing? Will you be getting your PR cards or will they be issued after moving? Hope all goes well for you! It's a long journey and I feel it will be a while yet until we are settled. The whole process takes quite a chunk out of one's life. I hope it is worth it.
Posted by tovan on 19 Feb 2008
We are settling in downtown Vancouver as we had already purchased a condo there. Our PR cards will be mailed to our condo 4 - 6 weeks after we landed, so probably late March.

Hope you get settled in Nova Scotia, is it? The journey is finally coming to a successful close!
