Our situation was that they took AN ENTIRE YEAR just to confirm where and how my husband spent his obligatory military service as a supply clerk. That kind of info. should take no more than a few months to research. This whole process has just add to my disgust for the Canadian Government. They are all slow, inefficient, incompetent, over paid minions with God complexes.

My case is now the LONGEST timeline for Spouse and Partners on this list. All other have had their visa granted or there are no time dates entered or they are for Parents, Grandparents or children. I know for a fact that a few months ago the Peruvian newspapers published an advertisement inviting Temporary Foreign Workers to apply to come to Canada. I am convinced their time and resources are being used to process these people before completing my legitimate Spouse application. They get into Canada in less than 2 months. We have been waiting 20. GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

My husband had his interview on Nov 30,2006, that is over a year and a half ago. We will be at 21 months at the end of June 2008.

I know how you feel :( I'm not far behind you..... only a couple in between our two apps in the spousal department. My hubby is from the US and everything was fine until they lost one stinking piece of paper and failed to tell us for 10 months :*(

Try to be patient and calm with your MP, and get things sorted with CSIS, hopefully there will be good news in the next month or so :) And keep us posted on what you find out through those CAIPS notes :)

My MP's office has been very helpful and persistent in pushing for answers too so I haven't had a problem with them at all. Ironically it's Stephen Harper's constituency, fat lot of good being in the PM's riding has done me. But they have not been answered by Lima since June 16, and I have not had a reply since May 26. It seems the Lima Embassy has no accountability to anyone, not even the channels that are supposedly there via the MP's to question status'.
You must also be frustrated with the incompetence in the system. It's one thing to be delayed, but when they sit on your case for 10 months because THEY lost something and don't bother to contact you to replace the document, it's just plain incompetent and............ U-S-E-L-E-S-S!! Being from the U.S., I hope your case now moves forward quickly. Good luck. btw. there's another good forum for discussion at http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/index.php

Thank you for this information. Especially, the contact information for our citizenship & immigration Canada minister. I am sponsoring my husband from Jamaica and currently we are within the approx 6-mnth processing timeframe. Problem is we are getting really close to the 6-mnth mark and I cannot seem to get a response re: Where exactly our application is in the process? How much longer are we looking at for processing? Our medical check, police check, supporting documents, fees etc. have all been submitted. All I ever see on the ECAS system is “In Process”… In spite of my phone/email attempts to reach the VISA office in Kingston, JA and my in-person visit to the VISA office in Kingston, JA back in May... I'm still none the wiser in understanding what's going on with my application. I sent away to Ottawa yesterday for my CAIPS filecheck. I'm told it will take approx. 5-6 weeks before I get it. Hopefully this will give me some long awaited answers. The bottom line though is I am shocked at how long the processing period takes for sponsoring a member of the family class into Canada and I am even more baffled about the lack of response or general help to those of us waiting to hear when/if our loved ones will gain approval to enter Canada. As a Canadian born citizen, I am confused at this system which seems to go against the very fabric of our Canadian culture.
