Did your family class case get forwarded to another consulate in the US? Or is it being processed in Buffalo?

Still in Buffalo.

Wonderful! Good for you! Any idea why it took so long? Did you order CAIPS anytime during the process?
Posted by mistakrz on 15 Jul 2008
Thanks! Didn't order CAIPS (philosophical issue with paying for that information). I think it took so long because we sent in our marriage certificate from Mississauga, and they wanted the one from Ontario. So they send you a request, and then let your application sit for 3 months before they look at it again.

Do individual cities have their own marriage certificate? I thought that if you marry in Ontario (and Mississauga is in Ontario) then you automatically get a Ontario provincial marriage certificate? *confused face*

Mississauga gives you a "record of solemnization of marriage" which we thought was ok. You have to apply for an ontario certificate. Definitely our misunderstanding - the provincial one is the only one considered an actual record of marriage.

Oh I see! Too bad it took so long. Those BF dates seem to be a biotch. This might be a dumbass question but, along with the passport request does the letter also state that you've been approved for the visa?

My husband is the one who holds the degree in philosophy, so I had nooo problem ordering CAIPS so that we can know if anything is required of us (haven't gotten it yet though).

The passport request letter says "It appears your application has completed processing". That's about as vague as it gets, eh?

I heard that CAIPS takes upwards of 4-5 weeks.

Good luck - hope your stuff comes soon.

LUCKYYYYYY!!!! What does the visa actually look like in your passport? Does it come with any other documents??

It's a pretty cool looking sticker that they put one one page of your passport. I don't know if you've seen visas that you get for China or Brazil or something, but it's just like that. You also get a document called confirmation of permanent residence which my wife is supposed to take with her when she lands. This document can be used to validate that you can work there, and to get a Social Insurance Number. You also get an instruction sheet with details on the landing process.
