Hi Amanda

We are in the same situation as yourselves, AOR in Nov05 and not a sausage since...albeit we haven't got the added pressure of children and a house waiting for us (boy you guys are organised!)

I saw the post on another applicants site re contacting the CIC to chase - are you going to do it ?- our AOR letter said it could be 36 months before we hear from them so i'm a bit wary of contacting them after only (hah!) 25 months....

on other topics would recommend monster.ca for jobs however we went out to the BC area on a look see and met up with a couple of recruitment agents who said that for us non-specialists (ie not nuclear scientists) we were better to wait until we landed and got that all important canadian address and phone number- the other top tip they gave us was to join 3 clubs - one for business/professional networking, one charity and one activity you really enjoy and start network as apparently alot of the job market is supported by word of mouth and meeting people socially.

Be interested as to how you get on with the CIC - we are going up to London shortly and might drop in....

Hi BCrabbitt!

Well, we sent a subtle reminder to CIC for our 90 day letter - will let you know if that was a good move.

Wow, so very frustrating!!!!

Keep me posted on anything you hear!

All the best

hello Amanda,
like you, my husband and i are aor november 2005, we too have an apartment ready and waiting for us in vancouver, and just now we're going insane not hearing anything from them. whilst it's reassuring to hear about other cases it doesn't make the wait easier as you know! i noticed that you made a comment previously about what the 'document update' letter will ask for. did you find out? i check that canadian immigration discussion forum quite often but there are so many threads of topics that it's sometimes a bit of a minefield. we're also trying to rack our brains for ways to speed things up so we'd like to start to gather the 'updated' info in preparation for them asking for it, seeing as getting a police check can take a while etc. please can you let me know if you know what they ask for.
kind regards and hopeful wishes for all of us!!,

Hi Natasha/Jonathan
Sorry, I just realised I hadn't responded to your comment of 7th December.
I too looked at the immigration discussion forum but it was too tricky for me to follow, I just didn't know where to begin!
I presume the updated docs is basically everything that will be now out of date (bank statements, references, polic checks - ie, everything really, grr) but I wanted to know more about the order of process, ie in what order things happen (ie, do you have the medical before the interview? And why does it appear some people don't have any interview - or have they just forgotten to put that on, etc)
As for speeding things up, if you think of a way, please let me know!! We're hopeful we'll be out there by next fall.
Best wishes,
AmandaUK
Posted by jonathan on 10 Dec 2007
hi amanda,
thanks for that. i don't think everyone has an interview. from what i can gather, if your case is pretty straight forward with ample points then they don't interview. my understanding (through thrawling the forums!) is that after you've sent your updated documents we can expect around 6 months before they ask for medicals, then a couple of months after you send medicals they ask for passports, which is the final step. all in all, you're right - we should be there around october 2008. i'm considering requesting the police checks now, before receiving the document update request, just in an attempt to shave off some of the time!!... on the subject of documents, i hope they don't need everything notarised again!! - that was a pain.
enjoy your last christmas here!
Natasha
Posted by AmandaUK on 11 Dec 2007
Oh yes, the notarising thing truly was a pain!
Loved the "last Christmas" comment (I DO hope you are right!) and I wish you the same! :)
If I hear anything, I'll let you know.

hi amanda, natasha

From the forums and a friend who applied in January 2005 and got their PR in July this year its your CV, police certs, any job references and the main form (ie countries you have visited etc) which will need to be updated. They got the interview waived - agree with natasha's comments that this depends on the number of points and the complexity of the forums. From the forums it seems that the procedure after medicals might have changed - for the better!- that there is now a automatic request for passports 30 days after the medicals assuming that there are no issues.

happy new year and best wishes for a late Christmas present from the High Commission this month

Woww, that would be totally fabulous (perhaps literally) to hear something this month, I daren't hold my breath! The only thing which concerns us now is adequate diet and exercise to get us back to where we were three years ago for our medicals!!
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated

hi Amanda, BC Rabbit,
re BC Rabbit's info; that would be amazing if they have changed the medical procedure, that would take about 3 months off i reakon. i applied for updated police checks today, they take around 5 weeks so thought i'd jump the gun in anticipation of the update letter arriving!

Not sure if you have already seen this website

Hi there - no, heard absolutely nothing in response to my very polite, tentative email enquiry.
:-(
Thanks for the recommendation of the mymuchmor site - I am now addicted to the widget game (not sure how that will help me, however it's taking my mind off checking the post!)!!
:-)
They seem like a friendly bunch.
I believe that applying for the Police Reports can't help as they're valid for a year, aren't they? Surely progress will be made before they expire!!!

Hang in there Amanda. I got my document request letter today and it states that the letter is being sent to Skilled Worker applicants who applied in Nov and Dec 2005. I suspect you should get it soon.

hi Amanda,
We're a few days before you and haven't received our update letter yet. If like me, having seen the recent cases of letters sent out, you'll be on heightened post alert now!!
We have received our updated police checks now but having seen the helpful list of requirements BC Rabbit explained, it looks like it's gonna take some time to get the rest of the stuff together anyway.
we can only wait in excited anticipation eh?!

Hallo Raymasa and Natasha (replying to you both in one email, hope you don't mind - I've been away and am just trying to get back up to date with emails etc!)
Thanks Raymasa, that's encouraging! Very exciting! Yes Natasha, seems like things are starting to move again, so let's all keep everything crossed hey?!
I think maybe hubby and I should re-apply for our Police checks ... ?
AmandaUK
Posted by raymasa on 06 Feb 2008
Hi Amanda, yes I do mind you replying to me in the same email as Natasha, I want a reply I can call my own...:). Kidding aside, I was wondering about the police check. In the very generic letter from CHC London, it says if police certifications have been sent, then to send police certs only for countries not previously included. But, I have also heard that police certifications are valid only for 6 months. So to be on the safe side, I will resend my police certs (even for ones already sent).
Ray
Posted by AmandaUK on 07 Feb 2008
Hi Ray
This email is JUST for you ;-)
I think it's not a bad idea to do the Police checks again, I think we'll do the same, it can't hurt. By the way, on my messaged posted on 16th Jan, I had intended to say that applying for the Police Reports can't hut (not help), totally changes the meaning - whoops!)
Cheers

Posted by raymasa on 08 Feb 2008
Woohoo, a reply just to me….now I fee special…:). Just went to get a police certification form, there is a slight change in process. Instead of picking up a form at the police station, you can download it online (http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp). The other change is that they now require a photo. The photo needs to be validated by a guarantor stating that the photo is of the correct person.

On the upside, they are saying that the certification can be processed in 10 days.

Here's hoping we hear something soon ...
AmandaUK
Posted by AmandaUK on 11 Feb 2008
Oh my goodness!! THAT letter has landed on the mat!!! I have sooo many questions - could someone feeling very kind and helpful tell me if the '2 recent photographs of each ... dependent' can just be a snapshot, or should I assume it must be to the original specifications (ie, passport ones with all kinds of rules and guidelines)? Also, the 'Work Experience' proof required, is this in addition to provided earlier?
Sorry if those both seem blatantly obvious. The letter seems to imply that items 1 and 2 are 'must send now' documents, but the other items are a bit vague.
I'm just too excited to think straight. Gosh, we could be there sometime before 2012 afterall (joke ...)!?
AmandaUK
Posted by raymasa on 11 Feb 2008
Wooohoo!!!! Bet you are a happy bunny now…:). Yes the photos need to be of original specification. And yes the work experience is in addition to the ones provided earlier. So, just send the ones you had not sent before. This is to show any changes in your life since the application (which was ages ago) was filed. Ray
Posted by BCrabbit on 11 Feb 2008
Hi Amanda

oh the joy of retyping all those documents! Both hubby and me have had new jobs which means we have had to redo the main form, plus Schedule 1 and 3. Also one of his brothers has got married and the other moved house so redid the family information set, also we went on holiday in the past two years so redid the supplementary information sheets as well, plus they have changed the proof of funds form since 2005 so more paper there. Finally couldn't work out whether the wording on the police certs meant that you needed to resubmit for only for new countries you have lived in since the original application have erred on the side of caution and sent off for those as well. Real pain with the photo however if you live in London you can apply to the Met without a photo but they say it can take up to 40 days although first time round it only seemed to take a couple of weeks....but we took the photo option because, as Ray said, only 10 working days....I suppose it depends how easy it is to get the guarantor sorted.

Basically we treated it like a new application (apart from the old references, certficates etc) and assumed that pretty much most things would have to be redone - I suppose if they were getting a submission by the new method they would be seeing all this for the first time and it would all be current, especially the police certs.

Didn't want (touch wood) to give any reason to slow the process down later on because we forgot something.

Rabbit
Posted by AmandaUK on 11 Feb 2008
I'm wrong, I'm sure I am - when hubby came home, he read the letter to mean that you only have to send Police Certs for the countries you've lived in since applying, and obviously we've been living in the UK, so I guess we gotta get those updated. Seems to make more sense than the way I understood it.
Did you send off all your old education certificates again, or only things which had been updated (like the cv's)?
I do wish I would slow down and read things properly first time around!!

What's the date on your letter, that will give us some clue on ours....

Waiting anxiously on ours!!

Best regards from Candream..

Our letter was dated 21st January 2008, but I think that may be a standard batch being used at present as I'm sure someone who got their 90 day letter at the end of Jan said theirs had that date too.
Still, it's positive, eh?!
All good wishes

hi ammanda,
would you mind to tell me how many months you were supposed to wait before they started to process to application. in the letter we have received in march 07, it says that we have to wait 4 years before they start to process our files.
thanks

how's the form filling going? we finally got our updates sent off today, phew, what a load of paperwork; i hope we've done it all correctly. i really hope that chc pull their socks up and start processing them soon. i read a comment on someone else's case that although the update letter said they'd be processing them in the next 3 to 5 months, he had been waiting 8 months. god, i can't bear the thought of not hearing anything for that long!

Hi Natasha (and congrats to BCRabbit!).
I took the kids and we stayed at our place over there in Ontario. We love it and it's always very bitter-sweet to come back to the UK after a stay there ...
Got home to our Police Certs so I'm happy to know I can crack on with that next week and get everything sent off. How exciting re: medicals. When you say "shop around for medicals" can you tell me specifically what is required within the medicals?
We are very determined it will be this year and man, I hope it would be during summer so the kids can start school ...

Posted by jonathan on 05 Apr 2008
thats good the police certs have arrived. re medicals - we haven't had our request to get them done yet so i don't know the details of what they require. they give a list of 'approved' doctors you can go to, some have longer 'waiting lists' than others so its worth phoning a few.
natasha
Posted by AmandaUK on 05 Apr 2008
Thanks Natasha - I'll ask Cara if she can give me any info. We thought we'd be canny and get them done, if we know what needs to be confirmed in the report.
I think this will be our year, eh?!
AmandaUK
Posted by AmandaUK on 10 Apr 2008
Hi Natasha and Cara
Now you've sent off your docs (we just sent ours today!), would you think it's worth getting the medicals atleast booked? If with an approved Dr, they'll know the format, y'think, or do we have to receive a form to take for the Dr's completion?
I SO want to go (to Canada, not the Dr's!) this year ...
Posted by BCrabbit on 10 Apr 2008
Hi Amanda/ Natasha

The medical request came with 2 'Section A' forms for us with our photos on them. The details said that there will a medical examination plus a chest x-ray and laboratory tests (from speaking with some of the approved doctors, some do these on site and send them away for the results, others asked us to book an appointment at a hospital and get the blood tests/ x-rays done and the hospital then sends it through to the doctor and then you go to them.

You also need to bring a passport and 3 photos per applicant, glasses if you wear them.

They then say to allow 2-3 months for the processing of the medicals but I have read on other sites that it can be a little as 30 days from receipt if there are no issues... (fingers and toes crossed for this option!)... and then they ask for your passport and 2 current photos.

Hope this helps

Hi Amanda and all watching

We are getting our Medicals at Horsham on Friday, 11th April... I can write up a short story if this is interesting?
We were told to pay the medical bill in CASH, which seems a bit strange.

Our POlice certs took less than a week to come back, we were impressed.

depends where in the UK you are - we had to go to Leeds as our nearest, as we're between Harrogate and York. It was £750 for four of us. That's two kids (who didn't need the bloods or chest x-rays).

Hi Amanda:

You can visit your local Delivery Office (Not post office) with proof of ID and Address (Driving license would do both), fill up a form with your interim address in UK and pay to get the service of redelivery of your mail to your chosen address for upto one year. Simple.
Posted by AmandaUK on 06 Jul 2008

It sounds like you are having a rough time - if its any consolation we waited from 16th April to 24th June for our passport requests , so please don't give up hope.

On the redirection we went to the Royal Mail website and they do seem to offer overseas redirection (although obviously this costs a bit more) http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?mediaId=50900695&catId=600008 - £75 for a year does seem good value so we might go for this.

Hope the little brown envelope arrives soon.

Hi Amanda,
What's going on with your case? Surely you've had your passport requests by now?

Hi,

I've only just found this forum today and have found it so useful. I've been so frustrated by the silence and lack of information you get from the London CHC... its like getting blood from a stone.
I also applied for PR back in November 2005. I received a letter in Jan 2008 asking for updated information as my application would now be out of date ...(only because they have had it for over two years!!). We were told we would hear something in 3-5 months, but over 5 months has now past.

My wife and I are already in Canada on a 3 year work permit and have been here since Feb 2008 (such a fab place..,. well worth the wait everyone) but my employment is coming to an unexpected early end and if I don't get my PR soon I'll have to either not work while waiting for it, or try and do something cash in hand to pay the mortgage....worse worse case I'll have to go back to the UK and earn some money while my wife stays and looks after the kittens and house (not ideal!!).

Fingers crossed I hear about the medical soon too!!

Comrade dieseltank;

You are not alone.

Wish you all the best.

Dieseltank. Hang in there. The wait is terrible. I got the same letter end of January, sent it off promptly. Still waiting for medical.

I got my medical request today.
Amanda:
Did you have to pay for X-ray separately? We live in north london, so our option is numberonehealth.uk. The website says about separate xray charge and nobody is picking the phone!!
Hope you had a good journey and settled down a bit. At your convenience, can you kindly highlight me about the schooling over there please.

X-RAYs are separate to Medical fees, take loads of CASH with you!

Amanda : Did you land? get your Permanent Resident cards ok?

We sold our house... we are close to zooming off, but not on Zoom, lol.

Hi Topu

On the X-rays i think it might depend on the medical company - we went to a very nice chap in Knightsbridge (no more expensive than a more local option suprisingly). it was a one off fee which included X-rays, they were able to give us an appointment almost immediately and sent the documents to the embassy 5 workings days from the completion of the tests (needed to wait for the blood test results).

Amanda; hows it going - we leave on 18th September for Kelowna. haven't sold house yet thanks to Mr darling and the stamp duty fiasco (had our buyer withdraw last week!) but we are going anyway...also not with Zoom, phew! Hoping Thomas Cook stay in the best of financial help !

Hi Cara

We have no update to give you, nothing has happened since our medicals in June (@#*%!!!!). We're here though, in Canada, the kids are starting school tomorrow morning. We will be here until we fly back to the UK on 23rd December, and I truly hope, by then, that we have our residency visas!!! What's going to happen with your house then, will you be renting it out or selling from overseas? What stamp duty fiasco??
