Hi Ray
Did your 90 day letter ask for Police Certs again? Mine says not necessary to send new after all, unless I've lived in any different countries since sending the application.
Can't believe it's beginning to happen, after all this time! The letter landed on my mat and I had to check it twice, before I realised!!!

Mine says the same thing, i.e. just to send the new ones. But I was also told that police certs are only valid for 6 months. And the problem for me is FBI certs take up to 16 weeks. So I figure I might as well get them done now so if they need it later I don’t want the application held up another 16 weeks.

Congratulations on getting the letter. Hope this is the year.

Thanks for your comments. So, I'm right in assuming I don't need to send new Police Certs, you think? They must know the ones they had from us originally will have expired, so I guess unless we've gone off and done anything criminal, they're happy to stick with those?
Sorry if you already spelled that out to me, just the letter does appear to be a bit vague in parts and I SO don't want to get this wrong now!

I agree that the letter is very vague and generic and thus open to interpretation depending on individual circumstances.

As for the police certs, I think the letter is clear they only need them from countries you have lived in for over 6 months *since* your application. Hence, no need to resend from the countries you sent before. So, if you have already sent them UK police report originally, no need to send again. But if you have lived in another country since your application, you would need to send *only* from that country.

So, yes you are correct in your reading of the letter. In my case, as I said I don’t want to delay the application by 16 weeks should they need me to resend my police cert and FBI check takes that long.

Now I'm in two minds!!
I just replied to Natasha, who seemed to agree with my hubby's perspective, that it means to send Police Certs for the countries you've lived in since applying, and if living in the UK still, that means for the UK. I guess it can't hurt to send them again anyway?

Hmmm…having read you response to Natasha, I think your husband is correct. And in either case, I think its better to send off the police certs anyway, its one of those documents that can hold your application back. Plus if you have only lived in the UK, you can get the police report fairly quickly. I don’t think its worth taking a chance and not resending them. I am planning on sending police certs of every country I have lived in (even ones I had already sent with initial application)

Yes, I think better to send them something they don't need, rather than not send it and thus hold up the process.
Thanks Ray

Hi Ray,

It seems you have got pretty good knowledge of Canadian immigration. Could you please comment on my following post..Thanks

I have gone through all the steps for PR application including passing interview, paying RPRF, and have completed the medical exams end of July 2008. My application is being processed since 2004 at CHC London.

As I was waiting for passport request, I came across with a new term Background Check (ofcourse I've submitted PCCs from three countries I have lived for more than six months). Any idea when this Background Check starts? Does it start once medicals are completed or it starts when the application is filed.

In my case if it starts when the application is filed then I would assume it might have been over by this time as its been over four years now. If it starts after medical is done then I should not dream of receiving a Passport Request anytime soon.

Your comments will be highly appreciated if anyone have knowledge of this complex issue.

I am not sure exactly when it starts. My understanding is after the medical, but may start before the medical (after the update request). I dont think it starts at the time you submit the application.

Hey Ray It seems that you have in depth knowledge about Canada Immigration. can you help me?
okay, sinario-
I have claimed AEO(do not have approval but claimed as 1- working on PGWP when applied for PR, 2 - my employer gave me later saying they heired me on indefinite period, 3- had 12 months of work permit remaining when applied) and
applied under NOC 2242 Electronics Technician/ Computer Technician same profession at back home( claimed 17 points for 2year exp.) IELTS ( 8,7,6.5,8.5)submited,
two year of Canadian Educ.( 1 year private college and 1 year community college)
Total 81 points claimed
got AOR( regular) started accessing file on Nov. 7th.
QUESTION IS : can I send my pay stubs attaching file no. even though they han't asked me yet( because I have not submitted any pay stubs when I applied)
I'll be waiting for your answer.thanks
God may give you more success in wht you intend to do!!!

You may want to send a notarized copy of the paycheck along with your file number. However, keep in mind that they may ask for it again. Either way, do not send the original.

Hi Ray,
Do you think its necessary to follow up my application even though I did already 2 months ago, and had a reply.. " awaiting for the officer to review... " Its suppose to be medical for the our next step..

Have a nice day!

Hi Neybar,

Usually they say 3 months after medical you should have your passport request. Of course, thats an average, not an absolute time. Some get passport request before 3 months, some later.

Are you currently in the UK? If so, you may want to attend expo-canada in either Leeds or London. On their site they have posted seminars for Leeds and CHC is going to be there, so you may have an opportunity to ask them.

You can also order your CAIPS report, but that takes about a month to get.

I know I havent answer your question, not sure if you should or should not ask, as they seem to get upset with emails. I am waiting for my medical as well, but you should have received yours by now.

If you can, I would recommend going to expo-canada and ask the visa officer there what to do.

I appreciate your response.. No, unfortunately m not in London right now.. Well, guess I have to wait a little bit more before I follow up once more.. hihi..

Hoping for good news for all of us!

Neybar,

Sorry, I misread your original question a bit. For some reason I thought you already had your medical and waiting for passport request. With regards to medical, in my case I was told by CHC that they are doing background check and they will send me medical request when the background check is done. They havent said how long that would take.

I would assume that is the case for you as well, but of course, I am not sure.

Thanks again ray! Backgound check? like police clearance issues?
They might do background check to previous employers as well eii? What if you did not end up well with previous employer, do you think it might affect your points for number of years of work experience despite the long years of being empoyed with that company.. Just a thought..

Thanks for your patience.. I know you got a lot of info.. and I appreciate it..
Have a good one

Background check is to verify that what you put in the application is correct. For example, they will check with the school/university you claimed education points for, verify the authentication of the degrees. This is done by the local CHC in the countries you have lived in.

Checks would also include your previous employers. I think (not sure), they will check that the dates of employments are correct and your position and job responsibilities you claimed are correct to match with the NOC codes you claimed. So, yes they will check with the employers.

If your past employer does tell them that you weren’t in that position or the dates you claimed, that possibly could be an issue, but I suspect that CHC probably come across employers who may do things like that, so they would look at for all your employers, not just one.

After the medical, they will also do security check, which is done by the Canadian security agencies to make sure there are no security issues.
