Topic: How long to get PR card after immigration application completed (decision made)
Posted by digerati (1) 11 Apr 2008
Hi,

My wife is sponsoring me to immigrate while I'm studying in Canada (Student Visa). We're living in Vancouver. One year after we sent immigration application, I received a letter from CIC, Alberta on March 5, 2008 saying that the processing of application has been completed and the Canada Immigration Center in Vancouver will contact me concerning my permanent resident status. They also tell me to prepare to submit the Right of Permanent Resident Fee when I'm scheduled to obtain my confirmation of permanent residence document.

It sounds like I will be granted permanent resident status soon. However, I have an urgent plan to travel outside Canada in next month, I want to know if I could get it before traveling for 2 months. Here are my questions:
How long will it take for them, Immigration Center in Vancouver, to contact me? And approximately, how long will I wait for their appointment after their contact?
Will they issue the PR card when I'm scheduled to obtain my confirmation of permanent residence document in Immigration Center in Vancouver?
If I got any PR document instead of PR card before I travel, can I travel outside Canada with that PR document?
Can I request them to schedule an appointment before I go out of Canada?

Have someone experienced this before, please help to answer my questions.

Thanks and Regards,
