Topic: ImmigVisa & LandingPaper got in person from Canadian Consulate Buffalo
Posted by Crusader (1007) 13 May 2008
Tuesday: 05/13/08 - Went in person to CAD Consulate, Buffalo: Goot Landing Paper & Immig Visa in 2 hours!

Stayed in Hostel International(HI) for the nite, $29/nite. very convenient. Its on main street, and there is a free train that goes to 1 HSBC Center every 15 minutes! Hostel stop name is Theatre. Cad Embassy stop name is Seneca. The train is free in downtown, but is $1.75 to go in the opposite side towards SUNY B.

Went to CAD Embassy in Buffalo at 8:30AM /w passport, $490 check, 3 fotos, The PPR letter. My cellfone, mp3 player & gameboy were all kept in locker insie the Embassy. The US Embassy shud learn from these guys! And the security gurads were so cheerful all the time, and joking with everyone! :-)

Stood in a counter, an officer checked all moi docs, and gave me a number & asked to wait..........and by 11:30AM same officer called my name and gave me the landing paper, and the immig visa on my Passport. The Immig visa expired exactly 1 year after my medicals were taken. IN my case Aug-25, 2008!

I did not land in Canada, though I could have! No urgency to land + I had a 5PM flight to catch to my home-state! And I am back in my apartment! I will go again to Canada only in Aug 08!

Cheap Food: Opposite to M&T building is the only hot-dog stand in the whole of BUF dwntwn that serves $2 Boca veggie burger! The cafetaria in HSBC center is also good.

Buffalo nite life is great......all bars & clubs on Chippewa Street are open till 4AM! Stay /w the crowd! Dont steer too far away into Chippewa, across a gas station on Elmwood street.........u 'll come across many a shady character.........it all seedy neighborhood after that! BEWARE!!! dont venture out there alone by walk!!! if u go all the way strait for 20 min, u'll reach Peace Bridge, but please dont take that route in the nite, U'll get jacked! Also the weekday nites, after 6PM, the whole downtown is desolate!

And if u land in Buffalo airport, u can take a bus 24 to HI.....$1.75.............again try to land in buffalo before 7PM.......I landed at 8:30PM, and took the bus, and it went thro the west side.......worst neighborhood.

And while going back from HI to airport, take the train from theatre to Church Street, and walk to Endicott street for the bus station, and catch the airport shuttle! This is also a greyhound/canada coach /USA coach bus-stop, if u want to go to Niagara Falls , or into Canada!

g Luck guys!

Hi Cnstudd!

Thanks for sharing this important information, however it is not good practice to stereotype people. In your post you keep on reffering to "Black" dudes and how people should be careful. Just to let you know not every black dude you see on a bus or on the street is a criminal or wants to do any harm to you. Where I come from Indians are known to be "cheats" and dishonest people check out this article http://www.thestar.com/article/424193, that doesn't mean that the indians that we have here in Canada operating businesses in Brampton are "cheats" and dishonest, many are hardworking chaps it just the few that mess up. I know you are a good brother but please it not always good to stereo type people.

Be blessed.

Hi:
Once you land in canada, how long does it take to receive permanent resident card. I am planning to go in June and wanted to take off from my job. Any idea?
Thanks

No offence to any race. I am not sure if u have ever lived in low income seedy neighborhood b4. Wat I was refering to in my post was the section of people in the bus, and in the streets were rough, and they were all afro. I was being blunt & honest! U wuda agreed if u were in my boat!

I am not sure if u ahve ever been to Buffalo! Even out of state African Americans (the every day Joe) would not dare to go into west-side of Buffalo in the night-time.

Yup! I know lot of Indian owned Companies, some of them r cheats.

Anyways, I have edited my post! Cheers.

4-5 weeks to get PR card in mail to the Canadian Address! If CIC suspects that u leaving back to USA within a few weeks, most likely they will not mail the PR, but ask u to come in person, just to make ur life miserable. keep 1 thing in mind..........the immig visa is Single Entry & will be cancelled upon landing! So re-entering Canada would be a pain in the butt! U've to get a returning resident permit from a CAD Embassy, so much trouble!

This happend to my friend;s cousin last year!

Two things:
1. If I am correct, the immigration people let you have a travel document. This document can be used if you need to be out of Canada before your PR card and then come back.
2. What about a visitor visa? Say if one have a valid visitor visa cant they use the same to re-enter (I am referring to ppl with PR card applied)

u bring about interesting points.

1. The Landing paper (COPL) is valid for 2 years from date of Medical, and this is a 3 layered paper: The CIC officer at POE will sign on this paper, note the cash u r carrying, put down the province/border post u landed.etc & U'll have to sign in front of him. U will be given a carbon copy! Then u fill the paperwork for CIC to mail the CAD-PR to your local Canadian Address. Your Single Entry Immig Visa will be cancelled!

Lets say u go back to USA, in a matter of 2-3 days after applying for Cad-PR. And CIC after 4-5 weeks, instead of mailing the PR, mail u a latter asking for you presence to validate certain documents, U R SCREWED! This happens, if the CIC border agent suspects that your intention is to go back to USA, they will add notes in your case & make ur life miserable!

Options: Apply for a returning residency permit at a local CAD Embassy (NYC), and take this to the border, and it depends on the discretion of the CIC border agent to let u in! Pain in the butt! I hope this dus not happen to anyone else!

2. Even if multiple entry V1 visa is valid, I am not sure how one can enter enter canada as a Visitor, when one had landed as a immigrant previously! Impossible!

If you have a multiple visa to Canada, that visa will be canceled when they stamp PR visa. So once you get your PR visa, multiple entry visitor visa is no longer valid.

Thats exactly wat I had meant. But the CBSA agent at POE did not cancel my friend's multiple entry V1 visa which is still valid! :

The Canadians dont put "Cancelled without prejudice" on all previous & current V1 visas! Strange!

Whereas the CAD Immig Visa is NOT multiple entry but always SINGLE ENTRY!!!!

Hi cnstudd,

I have a question related to this issue.
Do you know whether dependents (spouse and children) have to show up at the local office to pick up their PR cards too? or only primary applicant can pick up his own PR cards along with PR cards of his dependant, assuming that a letter was sent to inform you that you have to show up and pick your PR card.

Thanks,
Jimmy

I know that, if u r already in Canada, then u have the option of picking up ur PR card in person. http://cic.gc.ca has more info than what this forum has to offer.

hi there i m student in canada and i don't have trv and i have an interview with canadian consulate buffalo.can i go and come back with the study permit.

No you can not without a TRV, you need to have a valid TRV and study permit to go to USA and come back.
Your question relates to a TRV with single entry, this can allow you to travel to USA as many times as possible even though its not a multiple visa but to most countries you need multiple to go in and out of canada.
So get your TRV before you head for your interview in Buffalo. Except you are an indigene of a country who dont need temp resident to enter canada which you have not disclose in your post.
I wish you all the best man! lol
Take a look at the mail below:

A single entry visa allows you to enter Canada only once. This visa may also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon provided you do not enter another country. Such entries must occur within the time validated for your stay in Canada.(e.g. You may be given six months from the date you enter Canada at the Port of Entry)

A multiple entry visa allows you to enter Canada from any country multiple times during the validity of the visa

I hope to visit Canada, but i do not have a canadian visa. Will it be possible for me to obtain this in person from the Canadian embassy in Buffalo if i have a letter of invitation from my host in Canada? i have a US multiple visa.I am a visitor.

If you are asking for a Canada visitor visa, then yes you can do it. You need to appear personally @ consulate and explain them for how long you will be there etc.

Hi Manna, sorry about my previous comment. I answered your question from the view that you are a vistor in canada and without TRV but i read it closely yesterday and discovered you are a student.
If you study in canada and you are from a country that requires TRV to enter canada you need to have a valid TRV except when you want to travel to USA, Greenland and St pirre that you dont need a TRV but at this time you must hold a valid Study permit that will cover when your return to canada will be.
I hope this information is not too late.

Regards

Hi Mabel, having a multiple US visa does not qualify you to apply for a canadian visa in US.
What matters is that, if you desire to visit canada, you have to apply for it if you are from a country that requires a TRV and this is mostly done in your home country. The only time you apply for a canadian outside your home country is when you are legally admittedf in the country you are making the application e.g you are from India with a valid work permit in the US then you can apply for canadian visa in US. otherwise you have to go to India to apply for TRV if only you are in the US for a visit.
I hope this helps

Take care

Thanks so much for your information. a friend of mine got his canadian visitors visa in Detroit. He was in the US on a visitor visa and decided to visit Canada. He applied and got his Canadian visit visa in the US. Although he only spent a few days in Canada before going back to the US. Have they now stopped giving such visas? Please enlighten me more on this issue.Thank you
