Topic: Police Clearance from UK
Dear Friends,
As part of the Canada Immigration process, I need to submit a police clearance from UK apart from USA and India. Has anyone done the police clearance from UK? If so, what is the process to do it and any info on website, forms etc would be helpful. I checked quite a few websites on this and there are conflicting information on the process and forms. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You should check with your local police station (as there were recent changes in UK police clearance). However, they will most probably refer you to the following URL:
http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp
You need to complete the application (download from the above URL), validate your photo (as instructed in the application) and send it all to the address provided.

Unfortunately, there are multiple instructions for the UK Police Clearnance (Prosecution/Conviction History under Section 21 of the Data Protection Act, 1984). I am confused between Form 3019A, 3019B, SA1, as CIC suggests 3019A at one place and 3019B at another. UK police departments are referring from one to another and it's a complete mess.
Has anyone already done this from UK and if so, what process did you follow?

I did my one going to local police station and paid £10. It is a subject access request under sec21 of data protection act. This is what is referred in cic website.

Hi Topu / Ray,
Did you do the UK clearance while you were the resident or non-resident. If non-resident, is it mandatory to provide proof of address where I was staying in UK (as I don't have any documents to prove that, as it was back in 2003). Also did you pay the fee (35 for ACPO or 10 for Local police station) by international draft or check?

Hi Satya,
I am currently in the UK, so I did it as a resident. The first time (with initial application) I sent the application to the local police station (£10, took about a month). This time (2 months ago) it was at ACPO, as the local station does not accept applications anymore, so it was £70 (I requested an urgent reply) and it took 2 days to get back.
For both forms (local and ACPO) they requested addresses for the previous 5 years. You may want to call and ask how they would proceed without an address. There is a phone number on the ACPO’s form.
Also, for ACPO you need to send photos that have been notarised from someone who can assure to your likeness (from a list of approved officials, list on the ACPO form).

Hi Satya,
How did you go about your police clearance for India?
Thanks

Hi Everyone
What is the latest update on Police clearance report from UK. I have lived in UK for little over 6 months. Even this 6months period was broken through a trip outside of UK. Do I need to submit a Police report for this? If yes, how to get it. I think the subject access reports that are listed in the guidance forms are no longer relevant after the introduction of ACPO certificates.
Can someone confirm. Thanks,
Max

Note:
I was in UK on a student visa?

Nadeem:
I think you would need a police clearance from UK just to be on the safe side.
ACPO and subject access any one is good. ACPO is much quicker......pay more get more....

Hi there, I am a UK citizen presently living in US (altho moving to Ca next week!) I had a similar issue to you. If you lived in the Greater London area, you need to go through the Metropolitan Police, which is the main form that CIC recommends. However, if you lived outside of London, you need to contact your local police office. Let me know if you were outside Gtr London and which city it was and I will find the details for you. It was exhausting to get this info for me and required a large number of calls to the UK, but I got it in the end. My sympathies. Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have lived in Greater London as well as outside London. So, there were in total three places from where I was supposed to get three different certificates. So far, I have pursued APCO certificate after writing emails to different offices in UK and Canada.
APCO is a central document, and hopefully will be accepted by the Canadian authorities. I have n't received the APCO certificate yet. If you'd to like something to that, plz do so.
Thanks,

You seem pretty well sorted. Good luck with it all. I finalised my move yesterday by bringing my cats over and so it is just a matter of finding a job. I am SO happy. Here's good karma to you all :-)
