Topic: Background checks, Is done after IA or after Medical tests
Posted by smr123 (20) 29 May 2008
I hear on the discussion form about background checks. Any idea if these are done after the IA or after the medicals are done. Can one know if that is the reason why his/ her application for PR is delayed. Any information on this is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Background checks usually starts once IA is completed. You can refer to CAIPS notes to see where the application is. Other than this there is no way to track your application progress.

Thanks for your reply, So once IA is done, do they send the information that IA is done? Or how do I know IA is completed. Appreciate your response, thanks in advance.

I did my medical in aug 07, my wife and newborn completed theirs in nov07. Just last month, ecas updated to medical results received. I emailed Buffalo to request the status of my application. They responded that medical results have been received and they have requested background checks from other goverment agencies.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get background checks back? Thanks

That depends upon which country you are from. My understanding is BG check is a Govt. to Govt request that you are of good character. It depends upon how long your home country govt takes to delegate this task to respective department and collect and submit the result back to CIC.
