Topic: Wish to sponsor Mother
Hi
I have applied for PR under skilled worker category. My query is how do i sponsor my mother across to Canada post my landing ? What is the process that I need to follow & the time frame when she can actually land in Canada ?? She presently resides with me , however was not a dependant in my initial application. Thanks !
|
For sponsorship you need to be a PR in Canada. You also need to show sufficient funds for your new dependent. Check http://cic.gc.ca for more details on this.

Thanks for your reply...yes i do understand that I need to hold a PR status & would need to support this status with suff funds.however, assuming one applies for sponsorship of a parent post meeting the above requirements, then how much time will it take for the parent to actually land in Canada?? Just a concern since she lives on her own & ideally we would like her to join the family in Canada. Thanks once again...appreciate your taking time out to reply to various queries being posted on this site.

I'm actually kinda in the same boat having about to apply myself for PR with my skilled worker application, I want to sponsor my mother and stepfather to stay in Canada, after checking the application times in Missasauga there averge time is about 26 months compared to 12 months in London England, just my 2 cents worth though you may want to consult the authority on this though, good luck

Thanks ! My situation is a l'il different...my file should be through any day soon now. I did apply thru SW category and i am the main applicant. Since my mom was not included in the file as a dependant....i will now need to land in Canada , attain PR and then arrange to get her across. So my query is ...once i apply for sponsorship of a parent in Canada...what is the time frame by when she can actually land there??

Hey DAAS,
Given the individual cases I wouldnt care to even guess a time frame as every visa office is different, as an average rule of thumb im guessing about a year if thats any help to you
|
Just short of 2 years...theres some slooooooooow ass progress right there.
DAAS, if she's retired cant you just get her to move out there for 6 months of the year, exit canada for a week to go the states or the UK on holiday and stamp her back in when you arrive back in Canada, dont think that'd be too much hassle, dont think its against the law either, least till you get her PR papers thru?

Its approx. 23 months...

The change in law, starting Feb 27 2008, also impacted the sponsorship applicants. So hopefully it will be more quick now :)

Thanks WestCoast , David & IM
Appreciate your replies...23 months is a loooong wait !! However . keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully things will
be different with the changes being implemented.

If the new immigration laws affect family sponsorship then I can see your mother emigrating alot sooner than 2 years, have faith mate
|
Thanks for the encouragement David...touch wood , things should fall into place without too much hassle!
|
Your very welcome mate, actually I have a question for you if you dont mind, I'll be coming to Canada on a work permit then applying for PR from within, been assured by immigration lawyers that its all above board, thing is my retail management experience i have no evidence of because the company was taken over and my old manager cant give me a personal reference as the company only give start and finish dates with no details about sick days or responsibilities.
Im scared this could effectively scupper my PR application, your thoughts?
Cheers

Hi David ...I'm impressed with the confidence you have placed in me :)) however i'm sorry to say that I'm not sure i could give u the right advice :(
Ok lets brainstorm....from my experience....i was asked to provide updated original employment letters from my employer
detailing job responsibilities etc. My employers issued a sad (pathetic) letter stating that i was employed with them from "xyz" date and my designation is "abc". That was it !!!! For all anyone knew, i could be a menial labourer in the organisation holding a fancy designation. Anyways, what i did was ..i attatched salary slips and other such documents to the
"letter" and sent it across. So probably you could do the same. Another suggestion is , you could draft out a letter as per your requirement detailing facts that you were employed with XYZ company from XYZ date , give a brief of your duties and mention that the company was then take over and is now known as ABC and your job duties are 123 ...then ask your manager to sign off this letter. It can be printed on the new company letter head.
All the best...:))

Cheers DAAS, i got exactly the same kinda letter you did, start and leaving date and needless to say i was appalled! What I'm gonna do is write a letter and get one of my old managers to sign off on it, detailing what it is I did etc only thing is they cant print on company paper, if i get them to sign off on it then laminate it would that be better do you think? As I dont work in the company anymore!
Thanks for the advice, hope all goes well!

Uh oh ...dont know if that would work....i mean who would buy the story that the signature belongs to a manager of the company? Anyone could sign off and have a piece of paper laminated...how does that prove the authenticity of the document? If you cant have it done on company paper then atleast arrange for the company's rubber stamp / seal on the letter. Personally i dont see any reason for not issuing the letter on company paper....surely its not illegal to issue letters to ex-employees on company paper :)) Alternatively, if you can absolutely not get either the company paper or rubber seal thing done , then i would suggest you attatch the managers visiting card to your letter so that any official can contact him if required. All the best !

Thanks for the tips once agin buddy.
Heres a rundown of what I actually mean:
1: The company I worked for has been taken over so I cant get a reference
2: The company I work for now can supply a letterheaded paper reference signed off by my manager: only downfall is that i have never been a manager for that company. However could i get my current manager to say that he took me on because of my previous supervisory and management expereince, i.e. he worked for XXX company in XXX capacity and that is one of the reasons i chose to employ him?
Thanks

Hi Dave
With regard to Point 1..... Probably a letter could be issued to you stating that you worked with XYZ company from this date to this date and your designation was 123. A brief on your job role could be mentioned. Further, a line could be included to confirm that the company(XYZ) has since been taken over by ABC effective ___date. Even if this is on the new company(ABC) letter head it would be okay. I'm sure the job experience of your previous organisation cant be washed down the drain just coz of some take-over...there has to be a way out ...speak to the HR of the new co.
With regard to point 2......Yeah, you could arrange for such a letter and also mention the time frame that you worked in the previous organisation. Again , i would want this letter to be supported with proof of your "previous supervisory & mngmt exp".
However, if you are routing your case through an agent then he would be the best one to advise on whether you can
proceed without this "proof". They would have experienced similar cases.
Point 1 above is a better option though.......all the best!

Hi Ann,
Thanks for the reply, basically I was classed as a sales assisstant, but received managment training and supervisor training, ive managed other shops etc and everything thats on my CV is true. The only thing is that because i was never formally identified as a manager i was what they called a day relief, i was a sunday supervisor for just on 1.5 years. I spoke to the manager at my current job today and he said mention that you were a sales assistant but also in an informal capacity mention the other training and management duties you did too. Once again I wracking my brains here to try and find a way around this, I thought my uni degree alone would get me in!

Hi David
Its a SWA so theres no way anyone could sail thru with only a uni degree...you need to support the degree with some work exp docs. I have downloaded a national occupational classification matrix pdf file from the cic website...it categorises various types of occupations and skill levels corresponding to the respective occupations. Have a look at it , you will def find it informative & useful. Anyway, you go ahead and mention everything that you have done over the years including the time frame for each post held...if you arent fabricating anything , no need to worry.
Regards..Ann
