Topic: PR - Landing through 1000 islands from US to Toronto.
Posted by ganeshm69 (5) 10 Sep 2008
Hi All,
I am planning to land in canada through the 1000 islands closer to Toronto - Ontario (land route through rental car) and travel back to US on that weekend.
Is it safe to land this way , as I will be giving my friends address for PR card.
I read in some forums that the immigration officers are strict and they are not sending the PR cards and they want us to physically stay and apply for a PR card.

Any advise would be of great help. Pls advise.

Thank you.

So what you do with PR cards :)? I also landed and they didnt agree to send on a friend' address. After landing you have 2 FULL years to stay in Canada (without PR card) and if you have PR card then you need to be in Canada within first 3 years (as to complete 2 years from 5 years duration).

Also you can enter in Canada (without PR card):
By car - COPR will be Ok
By Bus / Plane / Train etc - Travel document which can be issued by any Canadian consulate

So why worry?

Thanks for you response.
Quick question,So during the landing process will I get a new visa stamped ?
my current temporary visa (based on the medicals validity period) will expire in 1 yr.

Thanks again in advance.

Once you land, your visa is finished. They will attach COPR (which is provided when you get visa stamped as last step at Consulate) to your passport. This COPR is valid for two years starting day of landing. Using this COPR, you can travel to Canada by Car anytime.
If you need to go to Canada by plane / bus / train etc - you need to apply for travel document. This travel document is available with any consulate and require 50$ of fee.
