Topic: How long are police/FBI clearances good for?
Posted by grag2 (37) 25 Sep 2008
I sent the police/FBI clearances with my original application in 2007, more than a year. My file is stuck on background check. I wanted to know if the police/FBI clearances expire?
Do you suggest I have them done again if they expire?
Thanks,

Have they asked for an updated documents? Are you still in the US? If so, they may ask for FBI clearance again.

I am still in the US. No, CIC did not ask for any updated documents. I wanted to get FBI clearance again if they expire (don't know if they expire) since it takes 2-3 months to receive from FBI>

If they haven’t yet asked for it, then don’t get a new certificate yet. For one thing they may not ask for it. For another if they do ask for it, you want to get one as close to that request as possible, otherwise it may be too old as well.

So, stay put until they ask for it.
