Topic: Applicant in Slough, UK - Wife in Karachi - How to get visa?
Dear Friends, I have been living in UK for 4 years now, as a student. My wife is back home and is in her final year of the degree. I have done my medical from Slough and she did hers from Karachi, recently.
My question is: When the Candian High Commission in London requests for the passports how do I get her passport stamped? She has never been to the UK or has a visa. I know that she cannot send her passport to me by post or courier as Pakistan goverment doesn't allow this.
Can her case be transferred to Islamabad? Please provide me with help if anyone knows of a similar situation.
Thanks & regards - toronto4life

If the application is in London, I am assuming you are the principal applicant. If so, all depend passports must accompany main applicant's passport. In other words you need to submit hers along with yours together to London.
Maybe she can come visit you and submit the passport then.

Write to CHC explaining the situation. Give them a visit if its possible. Dont expect too much help from them, as they are usually nut case. However, I heard they can send special instruction to get visa stamped locally. No authentic information though...

No, I tried for that and failed. PR visa can only be stamped by the office, where your file is under process. Nowhere else. I do not advise writing to CIC London in this regard and I do not advise transferring the file to Pakistan, that would add more complications. Only way possible is either you visit Pakistan and get her passport yourself, or she visits London on a visit visa.

Dear Rabbani,
I have emailed the High Commission yesterday and await a response from them. Do you know how long they allow after passport request till submission of passports? i.e. 60 days 90 days etc? Also I can not carry a passport out of Pakistan as it may be an offence to do so. Your comments are welcome. Best regards toronto4life

They give 60 days time for you to submit passports. They may even extend the duration if you request them. There are such cases as well. But irrespective of all these extensions, you are required to land in Canada, within one year from the date of your medicals done (not the date you received medicals request). You can take a power of attorney from your family members to carry their passports for the purpose of visa stamping at London, and that is perfectly alright. It is allowed legally and that is not an offence. Hope this information helps you, best of luck.

Thank you Rabbabi Bhai for your support.
Do you know of someone who has carried their family's passports to UK or any other country for visa stamping out of their home country? How are you so sure that it isn't illegal.
Your answer is highly appreciated.

I sent my (Indian) passports from Kuwait to U.K by courier. Courier companies can ship passport between Kuwait and London and between Canada and Kuwait, and also from any gulf country to any other gulf countries. It is perfectly legal for these region.
When I can send my family members passports through courier to U. K without any power of attorney, I suppose and I am sure there is no problem for you carrying your family members passport to U. K with power of attorney for the purpose.
Further the power of attorney is required only in Pakistan. In U.K that power of attorney may not be required at all. In U.K, you just show the letter from the CHC, and that should be sufficient. If it was illegal to carry passport in U.K (for the purpose of visa stamping with valid proof and letter from CHC), then it would be illegal to send it through courier as well and that is the logic.
Different countries have different rules. There is no universal rule in this regard. Courier do not ship passports to and from India. And you said it is the same case with Pakistan, I understand.
Hope this answers.
