Topic: PR applicant want to be student
Posted by topu (44) 21 Feb 2007
Hi there:

I know how hard it would be to settle in canada without their qualification. I have already applied for PR. How likely now to be successful to be a student over there now? Policy says I need to demonstrate i leave the country when I finish the study. But I would not. Any idea anybody. Whoever answers...thanks for your time...

Hi,
From what I read Canada accepts dual intent if you are on student visa, which not's the case in USA. So, you can study in Canada and apply for Permanent Residence from there.

Thanks for your reply. I think you missed the point that I have already applied for PR. My question is whether a PR applicant can also apply for student visa given that his intention is not to leave the country and the applicant is at present not in Canada. However, i learnt something new, dual intent, and would focus on searching with this key word. Thanks a lot and all the best.

i would like to know if i still have to do the IELTS test, although i am from an English Speaking country in the caribbean. i have been speaking english ever since i know myself. do you think i would still get the highest point 16 with the understanding that my native language is english. I filed my Appliocation on the 18 December 2006 and still dont get an AOR letter as yet.

This is correct, Canada will allow 'dual intent', meaning it's ok to be a student AND applicant for permanent residence at the same time. On the other hand, I've been told it's nearly impossible to get a visa or extension to stay in Canada while waiting for your PR application to be approved. It may have been simpler to get the student visa first, then apply for PR.

Now, my guess would be that it would depend upon what the visa officer felt about the seriousness of your commitment to the school: for example if you are going to University for a Master's degree, no problem. But one month's study in a small English school, definitely no. Something in between, such as a technical college, I'm not so sure, but I think it would be worth trying. [By the way, at some Universities you may be able to pay Canadian tuition rather than international since you've applied for PR. Could save you a bundle, so ask.]

Hey! Congrats!!

You will definitely be valued positively because of naturalization over there. But I dont think it would speed up the process.

U can apply for file transfer. But Buffalo office will examine if this gonna increase the integrity of ur application. If yes, they would allow you to do that. However they will take the money first...U know....:)

as far i know it would not have any difference in processing time, as your file has already been put in a que. and till now there is not any in-canada processing for FSW applications, so NO, it is not possible to transfer file inside canada. although there was announcements earlier by CIC to start a new in-Canada category for temp. workers and students [which would be processed faster than normal applications].
