Topic: Canada PR stamping
Posted by bujji23 (21) 07 Nov 2008
I have few questions on Canada PR stamping.

I need to land in Canada by Jan 15, 09.

1) I specified Toronto as my place of landing. Can I go to Montreal for PR landing stamping?

2) I have my H1B valid till 2009 and have extension till 2010. Also, my I 485 is in process. Does it affect in any way if I go for PR landing?

3) Can I drive rental car into Montreal, Canada when I go for PR landing stamping?

Please help me.

Thanks!

1. Doesnt matter. I specified Toronto and landed in Vancouver

2. So better you land before the visa expires. If Visa expires, there are some programs using which you can enter to US back (within 30 days) from Canada. However you may have to search this forum for those discussions.

3. I drove a rental car. So no problem. They may ask you why you driving rental. So be prepared to answer that.

I wont recommend landing in Quebec. If you dont have a CSQ (Quebec PNP) they might hassle you. There is a debate if you can or cannot land in Quebec under Federal program. While I dont know the correct answer, best to be safe.

Thanks for the replies. But I am confused with mixed answers.

Do you suggest to check with Immigration Officer before I land?

Indian Munda - What kind of answer I should give on rental car. Please help me.

Please advise.

You shouldnot talk to Immigration officer for such purposes.

Tel them that your old car is not good enough to imported here. So you will be on rental car for sometime and then buy new one in Canada. Normally, they dont ask about rental car. They will ask if you are importing your car. Tel them - NO

First of all thank you to all for your replies and guidance.

I flied to TO on Nov 14. Reached by 8.10am.

IO: Checked COPR forms.
IO: What visa you hold in US?
IO: How much money you have with you?

IO: Gave a copy of stamped COPR form.

Applied for SIN Card on the same day.

Back to US on Nov 16.

US IO: Checked I-94 and took finger prints.
US IO: Put a stamp in the passports.

Let me know if anyone of you have questions.

Thanks!

Hi bujji23,

I would also going through the same process as you, may be sometime next year.

regarding your 3rd quesion from IO: How much money you have with you?

Do you have to show him the full amount that is expected, because I would be coming back in a couple of days as I am on H1 in US.

Also what is the validity of the PR for Canada after stamping, How long can I stay in US before entering Canada.

Regards

Lalan

Lalan:

Sorry for any confusion.

IO asked how much cash I have with me.

I told him how much I had with me.

If I am not wrong, you need to be atleast 2 years in Canada out of 5 years to get PR Card renewed.

Please watch out for Gurus' responses too.

Hope this helps.

Indian Munda / Raymasa:

I have a quick question.

Every time I travel to Canada using my PR card - either by land or by air - will my PP get stamped with US re-entry date as I am using H1 B visa to enter into US?

Will it affect in any way?

Thanks in advance for your response.
