Topic: MY CANADIAN LANDING EXPERIANCE at PEARSON AIRPORT (TORONTO)
Posted by sajdelhi (62) 10 Nov 2008
Hi all,

before proceeding further, First of all I thank all the guys here who helped me with valuable information on how to land in canada and get the PR without affecting my US GC (140 approved and 485 pending)

My Special thanks to Miyabhai who helped me with lot of valuable information. hopefully the information I provide here gives confidence to people who want to get their Canadian PR.

I reached Pearson airport on November 7th 6:30 in the morning.

I went to immigration officer. its a lady. she was very friendly.

Immigration Officer: for immigration?
Me: Yes (gave her my passport and COPR)

IO: where you planning to stay
ME: gave address.

IO: you have job ?
ME: no

IO: how long are you planning to stay?
ME: couple of days

IO: do you know when you will return back?
ME: may be in a year or more as I am currently working in US. I may have to transfer my job and it may take more time.

IO: not a problem. you can come anytime in the 5 years but remember you must be here for atleast 2 years in 5 years to maintain your PR.
ME: sure

IO: do you want to mail it to the address listed here? (she was refering to the one I gave her in the goods form)
Me: yes

IO: availability of funds?
ME: yes (gave her certified check of 11K)

IO: if you have relatives there in the address, they can mail it you if you are not in canada and you are in US.
Me: sure

after filling some details, she asked me to sign in the form.
I signed it
after sometime,

IO: thats it. you are good to go. welcome to canada.
Me: Thanks

Returning back to US, at the airport

US IO: where u live in US?
ME: told my address.

US IO: do you work for the same company thats listed in ur visa?
ME: yes

thats it. no further questions asked and he gave me I-94 stamped and asked me to proceed

so , its easy as long as you are honest and truthful to the officer

just tell the truth

Hi SajDelhi,
Thanks for sharing your good experience of Landing in Canada.
I have 2 question on the the process to mail the PR card to the address in Canada.

If you say that you will be in Canada for couple of days and will go back to US, will they mail your PR to the address in Canada, or will they hold it till you go back to Canada?

While going back to Canada second time before receiving the PR card, what document do we need to enter Canada?

For me they asked to mail once I come for good.

If you are travelling by car, you just need passport with COPR attached. If you are travelling by a commercial transport say train/plane - you need a travel document.

You can get more details at http://cic.gc.ca

legend

they will mail to the address in canada.

I gave my relative address in canada. they said they will mail there. so no problem.
you dont need to be in canada to receive ur PR

The immigration officer clearly told me that your relative can mail ur PR.
we will send to your relative house.

so no problem

Well it actually depends upon officer to officer. Usually, PR card is something which (ideally) is delivered to one for who it is. You can look at many cases on web indicating this.

Hello Miyabhai

I have to land in Canada by Jan 1st. I am not getting h1B appointments anywhere in Canada in December. Ofcourse i have been trying to book an appointment for long.

I am not sure about AVR. I dont wanna lose an oppurtunity of having canadian PR..

1. Should i go to Canada by car and come back using AVR ? ( taking a printed copy of AVR with me just in case officer asks me ) - I havent applied for AP , so i dont have it. What i have is an expired Visa stamp and H1B valid till 2011.

Thanks

blessed1,
Even I had plans to appear at consulate and get my H1b renewed..but i read on the website that by any chance if you get additional admin processing and you get stuck then you cannot use AVR to re-enter USA as your visa is still in processing..thats the reason I gave up on appearing at embassy...

If you have AP then there is nothing to worry about..

people have successfully returned to USA traveling by car as well as by airlines..

go through other threads on canadian landing and that would help a lot

good luck..
