Topic: FBI record request
Posted by jay24boston (8) 31 Oct 2007
Hi all- This is for ones who had gone through the painstaking process of getting your fingerprint card back from the FBI. Did anyone receive your card back soon after your credit card was charged (thats if you paid by credit card)? I sent my request to the FBI Oct 24, 2007 and my card was charged Oct 30, 2007. Does this means that they are processing it and will be sending it back soon? I do relaize the standard processing time is 16-18 weeks. I did write on the enveloppe that I need it ASAP.

You can't tell FBI that you need it ASAP, they don't go by YOUR request, they go by their procedures. They will send it as soon as they finish the process, which as you mentioned takes 16 to 18 weeks.

Browby07, I don't think you understood my question. My question was NOT "will the FBI go by my request if I say ASAP", it was "if the credit card is charged, does that mean it is being processed as opposed to being left on a big pile?". However, thank you for your ATTEMPT to help. Anyway, the question is still open to more knowledgeable users of the site.

In my case the credit card was charged about a month after sending the request, and I got the results about 1 1/2 months after that, so it's difficult to tell whether the credit card processing is done at the beginning or the end. They *do* attempt to get it done by the date you specify, within reason, and you were correct in writing this on the envelope (see http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/cover_letter.pdf). In my case they came very close to when I wanted it, but then I'd given them several weeks. Since I'm sure there is a minimum amount of time to get it done, I would not expect yours back until early December.

I've found that indicating urgency on your request letter can help speed the process. My wife had submitted her prints in mid-January for a job here (Canada) with children. Her prints took over three months to return. I submitted mine in March, with a note indicating that I needed them quickly and had them back to me within 6 weeks. They actually arrived before my wife's.

Hey, just wantet to ask you smth, I would also like to try Canada, so starting m process and a bit complicated about the FBI checking process, could you please provide me with some steps to get the police clearence as wel as finger prints and letter of good conduct. Do I need all of them or just the letter from FBI? and how did you pay with credit card instead of money order or a sert check? I would deeply appreciate for your help.

Ok Guys. An update. I got my FBI check in 2 weeks. I did put a deadline date on the top on the envolope and also on the application form. This was the easiest of all things that I have done till now.

Lystrom, what you need from FBI (and they will not provide anything else), is your fingerprint card back with a stamp from them at the back side of it stating that their is no arrest record on your name. You will need an FBI fingerprint card (which you can request via regular mail) and get your fingerprints done at a local police station.

Its always better to send FBI no record certific upon CICS request only, cos they r gud for only 12 mo!

Anyone knows how long a CAD IMMIG VISA is valid for? Again 12 mo??

Hi
Do we need to send a self-addressed envelope along with the fingerprint cards to FBI for return mail?
