Topic: transferred to LA from Buffalo
Posted by masterpua (12) 19 May 2007
Mates,

My application was filed with Buffalo on June 30, 2006 and was transferred to Los Angeles on May 10, 2007. Any idea how long it takes for LA to process? Thanks.

Thanks for your note. Yes, I finally got the medical letter last month; sent everything in last week. The doc's office took a while to send stuff out. Had to keep calling them to check on the status. :)

hey greenmonkey, i went to the doc in san antonio since i live in austin. i think they charged me ~300-350 or so. If you want an exact figure, let me know and I can dig that up.

nope, i was just curious. but i have one more question. Can we work in USA by having Canadian PR ? also can we keep the GC process here alive?

I am more interested in the 1st option which way i could become Canadian citizen in 3 years if i want to and have a better life too at the same time. My employer wouldnt have much problem i believe.

Can you guide me?

Hey GM, okay I do think you can keep working for your US-based company even after you get your Canadian residency...for a while. I think there's some sort of a "gotta be in Canada for 3 out of 5 years" rule to maintain residency. Check the exact numbers on that one. So if you got your Canadian residency you could still hang out and live/work in the US for a couple years. And if you get your US GC by then, you'll be done. Of course, if you get fed up of the US GC nonsense, you could always take off and go to Canada. My cousin got his Canadian residency several months ago and he's still in the US working.

Did I answer the question? :)

to money, I am wondering why you went through a lot of troubles, paper work to obtain a Canadian PR and then went to work in the US? Why dont you just go to the US in the first place?
I've lived in Canada for couples of years, and I fell in love with this peaceful, peace-keeping and beautiful country. Being a Canadian is a pride, but not likely ego-centric, dollar devaluating, war-loving, obnoxius American.

Lynn

I am already in USA for 8 years , i feel i am well settled here. but this GC process is taking years n years and lot of frustation. with out having GC in USA , one is very much stuck up with JOb only and no benifits of PR. hope you know wat i mean. Canada sure is a great country , but 1. finding an IT job in an executive position could be difficult 2. establishing again in a new country is difficult where as i am well setteled in USA.

the very reason i asked this question is to save 2 years time to become Canadia citizen and at the same time keep my US - GC alive.

well, being Canadian does not mean you can work legally in US, right? You also have to obtain an USA work permit, and to apply for green card, you have to start over the process again. I understand clearly what you were saying, but I dont get why having a Canadian citizenship help you stay in USA legally and benefit as if holding US citizenship.

US new policy is to keep skilled workers coming in to that country. And no, you cant become a Canada citizen without living here for 3 years to obtain citizenship or even keeping PR card. Yes, it could happen if you are dependent of Canadian under 18, but it's not the case here, right?

Finding an IT job in Canada, just like many other jobs, needs experience and skill, it is hard to find, but not impossible. Toronto is a great city, good food, nice people, and amazing job opportunity. It's my reference for you :D
