Hello,
I landed in Canada Jan 05. After obtaining the PR card, I drove back to the U.S. Since then, I didn't go to Canada. Next month (March 2008), I plan to go to Canada to see some friends. Will Canadian immigration officer let me in? Technically, I have stayed outside of Canada for just over 3 years. But PR card is valid for 5 years.
Thank you very much.

HI JZ,
Shud not be a problem at all....
Since the validity is for 5 yrs., u can go in & out of canada as u like. But if u r out of canada for majority of the part , then renewing ur PR will be problematic. PR renewal can be done only if u have stayed in canada for at least minimum two years in a 5 yr period. So take that into account when u plan ur moves out of canada...in future!!

Hi guys,
I have similar question on the same. How can i stay outside from Cananda from more than 3 year or extending the 3 years period in the 5 years period of PR?
Thanks

You will have a problem if you have stayed out of Canada past 3 years. The reason is that Canada requires PRs to spend at least 2 years out of every 5 years in Canada. Since you left Jan 05, there is no way you can establish a residence of 2 yrs within the last 5 yrs... so they most likely will reject your entry, and PR status. That's what typically happens.
Good luck though.
