Topic: how long it will take for Buffalo to put the visa stamp on my passport?
Recevied the letter requesting send passport to Buffalo for visa stamp. I used USPS express mail and tracked it arrived and was signed off on 03/20. I have not heard anything after that. Now I have an emergency I need to travel abroad. I could not book the flight as I do not know how long it will take for them to send back my passport. I included a self-addressed express mail envelop inside the package I sent to them. I have been tracking that return number everyday but it kept telling me "no record found". I am soooooo worried! anybody have ideas? Should I be worried that they lost my passport?

U shud get bak ur passport in mail, within a month. CIC is very prompt. And in my case I am going to go in person for CAD Immig Visa, cos I am a very anxious person.

cnstudd,
Is there any need to schedule any prior appointment to get your passport stamped personally? Or you can go any day you wish.

does the Detroit office has a walkin facility like this?
thanks

Out of 20 odd CAD embassies in the US, only 5 Canadian Embassies(Seattle, Detroit, LA, NYC, Buffalo) process non-Citiz paperwork such as PRs, temp visas, immig visas.etc
So obviously DET shud have a walk in facility just like BUFF

Getting the passport back by mail usually takes 3 weeks. As PPR letter indicated it is usually allowed for maxi 15 business days to process visa stamp. Anyway, the passport cannot be with them too long. Just be patient! I sent my passport out on Apr. 2, and asked them to be prompt in my cover letter due to my arranged travel. Let's see what will happen. Anyhow, if I were in the States, I would not send my passport by post.

Does anybody know if your file is processed in Buffalo - whether you are allowed to get the PR visa stamped from another visa office / consulate [Ofcourse after Passport Request from Buffalo] ?

I am actually in Canada. I shipped my passport on Apr. 2 by xpresspost and haven't got it back so far. And I prepared the prepaid national xpresspost envelop for them as required. Hopefully, I can get it back by next week.

Based on my past experience with an immigration consulting firm in Canada, I don't think you can get your visa stamp from the office which didn't send you PPR. Unless your file is transferred to the branch visa office and you get PPR from them, you are supposed to send your passport there for visa stamp.

bluestocking, u r rite! u've to go to the same office that sends u the PPR. Canadian system is not sofisticated, when I went for my visitors visa last yr to NYC embassy, they cud not pull up my PR file in Buffalo (I had completed medicals then). So thats y stick /w the PPR sending branch office.

Thanks all for the responses...
I have one more question though - Does all the family members have to go for PR Visa stamping or just the Principal applicant would be enough - just trying to save some $'s :)

I mailed our passports to CIC - Detroit on 4/10/2008 with a letter stating that we are travelling to India in May 2008.
Alhumdulillah we have received our passports today exactly in 1 week..
CIC is so effecient..I wish USCIS can learn a bit or two from them
thanks for all your support

Hey, I was wondering about the same. Did you find the answer to your question?
If anyone know the answer please respond.
Question is...do you have to take all your family members included in the application with you to the consulate if you go there in person to stamp passports, or can the principal applicant go there by himself?
Thanks

As long as the PA shows up, it is fine. Dependents just cannot get visa on the behalf of PA. However, PA can do on their behalf.

Thanks a lot bluestocking...

I myself am in panic now. My passport was mailed out in early Apr., and I couldn't track my package so far. It is still not in the Canada post system yet.
|
Oh... Thats scary...
You are not able to track the return package or the one you sent out ?
|
Buffalo said they will process the visa ususally within 15 business days. My passport arrived on Apr.7, but I couldn't track my package in the system yet. Anybody has any idea? Being anxious.

|

Hi,
I i want to know do i need to be in US or can i mail my application and go back to india. Please suggest Thanks
|
Are you saying that you wanna apply at Buffalo consulate and then going to India? My opinion - this is feasible as long as you have stayed one year or more in USA. Also you need to check if they will move your case to Delhi consulate in such situation? If this happens - your application will be unexpectedly delayed as per timelines for Delhi consulate.
Also, since there has been some changes in immigration process starting feb 27, 2008 (check http://cic.gc.ca) - may be your case transferring to Delhi will also be pretty fast!!!
