Hi IMIGTRACK ,

as per my previous petition in the "Consulate or POE" Column , it is mentioned as "Chennai", so i think you have to goto chennai, check what is mentioned in the column once you receive your documents

Hi IMIG,

i'm not sure, maybe u can check with someone one in your adminstration who is taking care of visa and immigration section, as per vfs-usa, you are suppose to schedule the interview with the embassy nearer to your Native town, which in your case is chennai, there might be exceptions.

Hi IMIG,

For my previous H1 which i attended some 20 months back following are my experience, things might have changed quite a bit now.

1. You can take only the documents inside the embassy, no electronic items including mobile was allowed at that time, not even shoulder bags, you can carry a plastic bag to put your documents.
2. Documents which proves your education qualification including degree certficates, consolidated mark sheets right from Undergraduation (though the interviwer asked me only my masters degree certficate). Carry letters from the employer who filed your petition and all your previous experience certficates, she has verified each one of them in my case.
3. There might be questions realted to your assets, dependants whom you are leaving here, answer them convincingly that you will return to india and you are travelling only for work.

this is not all, but these are the things which i could remember, and someone in the forum can let you know thier complete experience (mostly balaji sai) after thier interview.

P:S For your previous question on, there are 3 new centers opened in south india, there is a good chance (though not sure) that you can attend the interview in Bangalore or may be they are only Application centers , VFS has opened centers in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Cochin apart from chennai

Thanks

Hi RGO,Senthil,Leela and IMGTR,

Thanks to all of you for your wishes.
Regarding consulate I contacted VFS office and was informed to attend at Chennai only. H1B may have different consulate with in India but need to attend the interview at nearest station of minimum 6 months live. If you want to change US consulate you need to apply for I-184 form which shall take several months time with USCIS once again. But this could be preferred by the persons during extension of H1B for stamping at Mexico or Canada rather than coming to India.

Al the way we need to be honest while the interview and have faith on God and then definitely will be succeeded. Short cuts may help some time but not always.

Hi All,

Good luck to all who received their H1 B documents. I dont think there would be any problem with visa as long as ur educational and experience are good. One concern though is the market in USA. Its really bad at the moment. Lots of lay offs Many big financial companies having problems. Freddie mac and fannie mae recently laid off around 15000 people. GM is laying off. Most of the financial instituitions are not recruiting. I would advise you all to come sometime during the month of december as usually from january they are epecting things to be fine. Also usually during the last quarter there is no recruitment at all. If anyone wants any further info, then send a mail to me.

Thanks,

Sridhar

@genmilf,

Did you have to pay anything for any fees to your employer?

Thanks
(reply) (report this)

yup but it would be deducted in my future salary so as of the moment the company was the one which paid for the processing and legal fees.

Hi Leela ,

It is HDFC Bank and you can get to know the latest fees and other details from www.vfs-usa.co.in

Hi Leela,

You can also schedule the appointment in the same website www.vfs-usa.co.in, Follow the "Apply for a Non-immigrant Visa " link or "Click here for an estimate of current availability of visa interview appointments." and you can follow the instructions, its quite easy

Hi IMIG,

This payment is towards the admistration expenses for the visa interview. It is $131 everytime you schedule an interview with the US consulate irrespective of the type of visa. The currency exchange will change from time to time, the current exhange rate is 46.Rs for a dollar, where as sometime back it was 44.Rs, that is the reason i asked Leela to check the vfs site for more details.

All:

I find this mock H1B interview in the below link quite useful. Your typical interview questions may not be exactly the same, but you can have a feel of it. The immigration officers explanation at the end is quite good as he explains what they (interviewers) are expecting from the applicants..

Hi Simmi,

Why shouldnt you apply for EAD? If your husband processes his green card, then in parallel you can apply for EAD and start to work.

Hi Govind,

Please check the below link for the time given to respond to USCIS,

http://www.trackitt.com/discussion-forums/i140/89302723/

Also there is a chance that your employers attorney has already sent the RFE, but the USCIS has not updated the status on thier side.

Thanks

Hi Simi,

I just came to know about this EAD information through my friend. Her husband had applied for Green card and using some form (that is proof of green card application i guess, some INNN) you might have to apply for EAD with all your educational qualification documents. So you might get your EAD in 3 to 4 months i guess. Hence you need not wait for your green card to get approved, once your EAD gets approved you can start to work . Just check about this EAD process in USCIS website or anywhere, you might get lots of information. And if i also come across some infos will let you know.

All the best!!!

Cheers,
Aarthy

Hi Simi,

EAD is given if you have applied for 485. 485 can be applied only if your date is current. It depends on your priority date and the category which you are in. There are 3 categories, EB1, EB2, EB3. EB1 is current as of now. EB2 is aug1'2006 and EB3 is unavailable. So it all depends on your priority date. The pririty date is the date when you first started your greencard processing. It used to be labour certification before and now its perm processing. Depending on that date only we could know if you could get an EAD or not.

Thanks,

Sridhar

Hi Xhaileyn,

I hope most of them who got selected in lottery already know the status, you are one of the very few i guess still have not known the status. When you mean " case is still pending", did you check the USCIS website or you got to know this from your employer. Keep your hopes alive, everyone will get to know the status before this month end.

Thanks

Please let me know if anyone has the details about Cap Exempt H1 visa. How should i go ahead with that.

Hi hiiiii,

Cap Exempt H1 is given for universities and Educational institutions( i just googled to find out), if you can get a job in a university or school, you dont have to go through the normal H1B Process.

Thanks
