Topic: HSMP waiting times
Posted by lucymcd (6) 13 May 2008
Hello

I am currently back in Australia and waiting for my HSMP visa (submitted on the 6th May). I am using 1st contact to represent me. At this stage the home office is saying between 5 and 14 weeks! Has anyone heard any different on times??

Also does anyone know whether it would be ok to re-enter the UK on a tourist visa while waiting for the HSMP and not have to return to Australia again and just change from tourist to HSMP if I get it!

Many thanks
Lucy

The times are dramatically slower now it seems because of the changeover from HSMP to Tier 1 and everyong rushing visas for summer as well I suppose. I applied from Australia, docs received in UK on Apr 14 but have heard nothing. I dont even think my application has made it to the top of the pile yet based on Home Office feedback to people on this forum. I think you (and I) might be waiting some time :(

Regarding entry, after the HSMP letter comes back (assuming its a "Yes") you need to get biometric scannning done (In Australia) and then send your passport to Canberra to get entry clearance (visa in passport etc). So unfortunately being in Australia is unavoidable I believe.
I am leaving to go travelling for 4 months on June 12 and started the HSMP process two months before but obviously not long enough as I will now have to travel back to Australia after my holiday to get entry clearance to go into the UK.
Also, the change from HSMP to Tier 1 will probably happen for Australians sometime in that period so I am probably going to have to send another form for Tier 1 transition to the UK first before doing the steps I listed above. Sigh.

Good luck!

I sent my docs on Apr 28th via FedEx, delivered on Apr 30th , credit card charged on same date , got my reference no. on May 1st. I thought they are very efficient and would get my approval in 5-8 weeks. Let's see ....

I am based in USA ....

Hi Nancy,

Yeah I saw the same, I sent mine on Apr 8 (or thereabouts) got there by 14th money deducted same day and ref number a few days later. They do that straight away (particularly they make sure they get the money immediately) but then its onto the massive pile of applications I think! :(

Woohoo I want to be part of this post too, as I am just about as nervous as the rest of you guys.

I have applied from Australia, my application was recieved on the 10th of April and my wife and I have plans to travel towards Europe in July. So we are hoping that it would be all sorted by then, especially considering the cost of fligths from Australia to Europe during that time and we really don't want to have to travel back to OZ just to apply for entry clearance.

It would have been so much more convinient if they allowed entry clearance from elsewhere, even if it meant I had to travel to UK for the day just to do the biometric stuff. I'll be in Prague around that time so flights to london from there are practically a third of the cost of flights to London from here in Australia.

Anyways we are still remaining hopeful that my application would be processed by mid to end of June.

Good luck to everyone.

Cheers

Hi all
I am applying from Australia also.
My application was sent in with my partners on the 24th of April - they were in the same envelope and couriered (signature obtained and successfully delivered). I have received my reference number and had payment taken - however, he has not. We have called many times and all they can tell us is that they simply cannot find it anywhere. They said the only thing we can do is file a complaint....

Our dreams of working in London have been shattered...any words of advice or previous experiences? He only just graduated in April (working and studying full time to obtain it) and HSMP have now lost that original degree...

Devastated...how do you lose an A3 sized folder full of documents? Do you think there would be any chance that they threw it out?

Hi mjmco, I can sympathise with you. My girlfriend and I sent our applications in the same box as well, and they assumed there was only the one application in there and they lost track of mine. You would think the least they could do is actually examine the contents of a package when they receive it to see what is in there. Anyway, they took her payment, then sent the box to the processing center. I was told I would have to wait for it to work it's way through the system. When it was opened at the processing center (they take all of the documents and scan them, the caseworkers only ever see the scanned versions), they realised their mistake, and sent my app back to the payment processing, where it started again. My girlfriend's application was approved in mid-April, but mine due to this delay has been put behind the huge influx of applications in late February (it is marked as being received on 13th March). We are due to fly out on 22nd June. Very stressful.

To add to all of that, my application was being filed just prior to my 28th birthday. Now it is marked as being received after my birthday. I have called them several times and been assured that the caseworker will be notified about what has happened, but it wouldn't surprise me if they denied my age points. Sheer incompetence.

Geez guys, sounds terrible, I can't believe that kind of stuff happens, you would think more care would be taken on something as important as this.

Best of luck to you guys, hope you guys get sorted in time.

Hi all

Does anybody actually know what the correct process for HSMP is? I hear things like documents being scanned, payments centre, processing centre, caseworkers only seeing scanned versions.... can someone please verify whether this is the correct sequence of events and area?

-Package received(which area?)
-Payments taken(which area?)
-Application assigned to caseworker(is the physical package transferred?)
-Package transferred to processing centre (does this happen?)
-Scanning of documents (does this happen and in which area?)

Thanks for all your responses and support thus far...

Hey gdwat1
Sorry to bombard you - not sure which post you will see/reply to so hoping to catch you here.

What do you mean by "they took her payment, then sent the box to the processing center. I was told I would have
to wait for it to work it's way through the system. When it was opened at the processing center (they take all of the documents and scan them, the caseworkers only ever see the scanned versions), they realised their mistake, and sent my app back to the payment processing, where it started again"

Where do they take payment?
What happens at the processing centre and does that happen before, after, in parallel with caseworkers assessments?
At what point did they finally find yours? (after they approved hers and were about to send back the documents)?

Thanks again...

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think the majority of you will be waiting for much longer than you realise.

I submitted my hsmp in the UK on the 28th Feb- this is the last day that hsmp was accepted within the uk. Other countries such as austrlia will phase out hsmp applications eventually. Either way, regardless of where you submit the application, this is review by the same office in the uk.

It is now 13 weeks since I submitted my application and they are only now processing applications received on the 28th Feb- hence, a huge backlog has occurred with people trying to catch the 28th feb deadline.

I have called up the home office everyday and as of this afternoon (28/05/08), they still have not processed my application from February.

Hence, for those with a stamp date of Apr or May, you will have a long wait ahead as they are obviously taking a long time to clear their backlog!

I think that is a given! The tracker is showing people with pending cases of upward 70+ days ... and these are for people who applied after 28 Feb and they aren't even processing these applications yet!

People who have applications received on 28 Feb like yourself are mostly showing application to approval dates of between 60 and 72 days.

Having said that, there appear to be a few cases (not PBs) that have been processed. I'm surmising there is one deviant case worker who is working ahead of schedule or something!!

Hi all,

Thought I'd give you all an update.
I'm and Australian based in London and applied to change from WHV to HSMP on Feb 28 via 1st Contact Visa's.
After many weeks on sleepless nights I had a call today to say my application had been approved ... nearly 14 weeks to the day! Coincidently right on their published "guidelines".

Hope this gives you all still waiting some hope.
Just remember what Rachel Hunter once said in an ad "it might not happen overnight but it will happen!"

Thanks for that, reading all of these letters has made me feel quite depressed! I am a teacher and have been waiting 13 and a half weeks! I planned to leave the end of term one here in nz which is april, then had to extend it to term 2 and now maybe perhaps the end of term 3 which is the end of September!!!!!....as my intial visa was declined after 5 wks ( i failed to send in the Enlgish language requirement stuff) I recieved a reference number for my second application on the 20th of March

I am so tired of being stressed out, my school is in the middle of interviews for my position and I still don't even no if my visa has been accepted!!!

So basically, my principal needs to hire someone soon, I have no job and mortgage and an angry partner who doesn't understand that you can't give 2 weeks notice when you are a teacher!!!! maybe 2 months.... And the school year starts in Sept in the UK so I will miss a long term position there too!!!! However things could be worse....

Help...had anyone heard the date they are processing up to? For the last month they have been telling me FEB 28!!!!!

Hope someone has had some good news today!!!!!

Hi all,

I m confused with the maximum time of 14 weeks. Does it include only working days or 7 days of a week. I mean the total maximum days to wait for approval/denial are 14*7 = 98 days OR 14*6 = 84 days OR if saturday and sunday are off days then 14*5 = 70 days. Can anyone help me?

The other one is my friend whose application was received on 22nd of Feb and he received his approval on 25th of April. Let me tell you that both of these cases were applied from Pakistan. I am still patiently waiting and getting more anxious, like many of you. My Reference Number was assigned ~March 28 and it is in the 2574XX section. I haven't heard a peep since getting my numbers. I thought there would be somewhat of a backlog with the recent deadlines passing, but I didn't start reading the horror stories until today...to be honest, I'm a little scared about how long this may take after all. I plan on waiting until the 14 week deadline is reached before I really start hammering the Home Office with requests for details. I wonder if they know how much stress would be relieved if they could simply supply details about an individual application's progress.

I wanted to wait until I got confirmation before starting my job search, but now I think I will need to start searching on the assumption that it will be granted. I just really hope I get an offer that can wait a little while.

Good luck to all of us.

Man...I am feeling so bad for those with such long waiting times...and am scared it is going to be me in another 3 months!...man, come home to Sydney for the winter and get back to the UK for winter - perfect timing!

Anyone having any delays or heard of delays with EC. I spoke to someone there the other day and they said don't expect it to be 15 days as they too are experiencing a high demand and they are not giving any real SLA anymore! - excellent.

If the UK Govt new they were going to intro the new rules why did they not train / hire more staff to deal with the additional applications to keep to the SLA. We are talking about a process where the fee is non refundable..surely if you are going to dish out about $800 which you may never see again you should at least expect the service to be faster.... I think it is ridiculous...not to add on the other expenses of flying back to your country of origin, losing the place rented in London and those items which you could not pack and take home, your job in London, and then finding a short term less paying contract job while you wait an unknown period of time for the Visa to be possibly approved...

Is it just me or does this all just seem completely unreasonable and unfair.

Sorry - now I just am having a whinge!
