Topic: LUD checker program.
Thankyou very much, it made my life so easy. I login everyday to see if there is any LUD change. Now I am free from that routine. I downloaded the program and was able to install it like a breeze. The setup is very easy and in seconds gets me the information. Excellent!!!

I wonder how USCIS website will react if too many people start running automated scripts to check their status every couple of minutes. We know that a typical USCIS reaction would be to develop a backlog when one would have to wait several hours in order to get to a status webpage. Which may not be a bad thing at the end for preservation of public mental health and sanity.

Great !!! I appreciate your effort, but I would prefer getting it in source code format - suggest setting up an open source project to make it available for people if they desire to see the source code, or making the source available in a zip file.

I was able to get the LUD changes successfully, also a messgaebox pops up with the message Hooray the chage has taken place with the respective receipt number and updates with the old new LUD number. Great!!! for people who are conscious of not hitting USCIS frequently for LUD update can just do the Ondemand option.

I downloaded this program, but I did not follow through with its installation -
it required me to install a new version of Java, although I already had the latest (same ?) version of Java I installed from sun.com.
So I decided to leave this program alone - don't trust it.

I don't know what is meaning of don't trust you said. I removed the links because I felt enough people got it form the site. And I didn't want USCIS to have lots traffic from this program. As you said, there could be a problem while installing. I have old version of installshield and it doesn't support perfect detection way to check a computer's Java version. Sometimes it cannot determine the difference between update versions. I have no idea how to handle it and I didn't have time to code those Installshield script.

And I feel for you guys that there needs more description about this program. Just think it's a kind of small web browser and just parse necessary information from html received from USCIS via https (secure protocol), for example Form, Form Title, Receipt#, and LUD. And it discards unnecessary data. And normal web browser takes all html source and presents it on your web browser.
It's not a hacking tool nor virus.

Dont even justify yourself to people who doesnt know to appreciate some ones effort to make other people life better. I am sure people who are in this forum are genuine people who have applied for Green Card and anxious to know about the status. They will use the program wisely only for that purpose.
What you have done is wonderfu;l work, it doesnt require much of a handholding. By the way I am not very technical savy but I was able to install and use the program. I sincerely thank you for your help. Also it was a smart move to remove the links so USCIS dont get bombarded by high volume of people requesting the status. Its very kind of you being willing to share it if some one requests you through email.

I will repond you.
When you use IE to access USCIS
1) go to website
2) select customer and type password/id
3) login in
4) check your status
My program (A variant of web browser)
1) go to website (you don't need to do because url is included.)
2) select customer and type password/id (don't need to do because you stored the information in local disk.)
3) log in (you don't need to do) because the program send necessary legal data to USCIS
4) check your status (usually IE read all data from website, but my program only retrieve necessary data.)
All data transmittance between USCIS and My program well follow https(it's world-wide standard protocol.)
Do you find any illegal process? If the process of this software is illegal, using IE is the same rule. And if USCIS thinks it's illegal, they have to provide their own web browser other than Firefox, IE, ........

USCIS has already been serving this simiar search feature.
** but if you press check button to much in a short time(which is the same you press refresh button on your IE), it might be illegal in common sense.

I guess people think it's an illegal program or a hacking tool because I removed the link to download software. So I will tell you guys why.
I just made this tiny software for myself, and wanted to share with anyone, then It doesn't take much time until I understand new situation. I got lots mails and questions regarding it. I couldn't handle it and I have my own works. I couldn't make time to reply all of your questions.
That's why I removed the links. I am not a student and I have to earn money to survive with my family. I am sorry I do not make time for you guys' all wondering and questions.

I'd just like to thank you. This software is quite useful
in checking your LUD, which I do several times a day.
I know asking whether this software is legal or illegal is a total nonsense.
I use this software to approach my account in the uscis web,
not someone else's. What's illegal here?

Everything that your program does follow the rules except one. Your program can work as a tool for "flooding" on the server which can be classified as virus/trojan. Virus on govt property...you can interpret what the means...
For that matter most of the trojans are same as yours, they do legitimate things but do it too fast and too many times and that's why they are bad, so as yours.
First of all, this is a bad idea for one main reason. We now have a good online tool to check our status and it's good enough as it is. If people start using tools to flood the servers, eventually USCIS will give up and take it offline. Would you like to see that?
We gave enough load to the CIS folks already, let's give them a break and not screw up the system. Note that these systems are old and heavy, we should be respectful and stop this kind of flooding.
Come on guys, let's just be reasonable.

I understand perfectly that on one hand, we're all very anxious to know what's going on behind the scenes; on the other hand, USCIS is not exactly transparent in their actions. I personally would fly to TSC and overview the process my I-485 is going through. However, that's not possible.
On topic, the LUD checker is not a trojan, nor a virus. Still, if people would set it to check every 2 minutes or so, a logger would rapidly pick up. Now, I'm not too worried, as only, say, 1% of the applicants are on trackitt, and only, say, 10% of them will be using the LUDer, so the servers should not get overloaded. But in principle, imagine what would happen if ~300K applicants would checks their LUDs every minute. Don't you think the CIS would simply nix this option?
Same goes for the POJ method... my lawyer tells me they had an "inside method" to contact CSC for emergencies. Of course word got out and a couple years back the method was nixed. I don't think it's fair, and I don't think CIS is being very transparent. But... it's what it is.
I'll be very curious how long will the POJ method last. I personally have used it once, and will use it only if real need be.
Don't get me wrong... information is out there, and people can do whatever they want with it. I'm just saying we should think about the "common good" for all of us.

Perfectly true... and at some point, USCIS might have to choose between using captchas or nixing the feature entirely. What are the chances they'll go with the former?... less than 100% I'd say.
And again, don't get me wrong. Ideally, we'd have a system that would show step-by-step progress in the status. Like:
-- FP received on mm/dd/yy;
-- FP processing startted on mm/dd/yy;
-- FP processing done on mm/dd/yy;
-- NC initiated on mm/dd/yy;
-- NC completed on mm/dd/yy;
... and so on and so forth. And capchas and all that. But I think we'll all get our GCs before this happens. |

Here is summary of my case:
I-140/I-485/EAD/AP Concurent (EB2) Filing Date: July 20, 2007
I-485 application indicates that H-1 extension was pending and that H-1 extension application was subsequently approved until September
Another H-1 extension (7th yr) filed in process on the basis of 365-day (RIR) rule before September expiration date and currently in process
No reciept in mail yet
Only 1-140 check cashed to date
Questions:
1) Is it unusual for the USCIS to cash the check for I-140 when the same package contained other checks?
2) Would USCIS issue I-485 reciept and approved EAD and AP while the 7th year H-1B is pending?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
