Topic: I-485 Approved but I think there is a serious issue
Posted by gc54321 (47) 23 Jun 2008
Hi All,

My I-485 was approved on 17-JUN-2008 and I received the cards today. But my last name includes both middle name and last name For example instead of ABC DEF GHI the name shows ABC GHIDEF. In the receipt notice the name appears correctly. I am not sure why my name was changed in the green card inspite of correct name in receipt notice. I know I have to now file I-90.

1. Am I now considered illegal because the name in GC is not correct?
2. If I file I-90 will they again perfrom checks like FBI, IBIS for I-90?
3. How long does it take to process I-90?

I did not do any misatake the name was correct in receipt notice but it was incorrectly mentioned in GC. Please help.

Thank You

1. No, card itself is just a proof of your status, not a status, you are legal
2. No
3. Up to 6 month :(

Goblin,

Thank You. What are the documents that I need to submit to show proof of my correct name?

Same happened to me, the name came in the wrong order. Got my new card in a little over 2 1/2 months
I called them on the same day, they told me what to do, and i did the next day.
I was afraid of the 6m waiting period so i had an infopass and got my passaport stamped for one year, but my card ended uo coming sooner that expected. They tell you up to 6m.

I understand how frustraring it can be, but at least it was approved.

Goodluck!

Hi Brasileira, Can you please tell me the list of documents you sent to prove your correct name? Will you also please send me the format of the letter that you sent explaining the name issue?

i didn't send any letter, just the form that you get on the website, the card (that was sooooo hard) and a copy of my passaport with the correct spelling, i send the page that had the H1.
I think that was it.
Have a look at the link that Goblin sent you, he knows his things. :)
I called them before i send it, i am not sure if the log all the calls or not.
I did get a receipt but it took a while and the IO at the infopass said that they don't always send it.

Hi Brasileira,

Did you send it by FEDEX? if so can you please provide the address? I just have only P.O.Box address.

Thank you again.

Look for the courier address on the USCIS web site for your service center, or use any of United States Postal Service (USPS) services with tracking number (EXPRESS for instance) as they deliver to P.O. boxes and often are cheaper.

to tell you the truth I thougt about it, but decided not to spend more money with the gc, so i sent regular mail, just made sure i sent in the post office, not in a drop box.
As for the address it depends on your service center, you can either find out on the website or call the CS.
