Topic: Lawyer Fees?
Posted by lordtarieq (55) 04 Jul 2008
I am supposed to vist a lawyer next week, but I am scared of how much the lawyer is going to charge. Can you guys tell me how much your lawyer charged to file for adjustment of status and employment authorization documents for two people? I want to see if I am getting cheated?

Hi Lordtarieq
We paid $2000 lawyer fee's plus AOS EAD & AP filing fee on top of that, keep in mind lawyer fee's vary a great deal depending on who you go to, this was for two people. Hope this helps.

For 3 people we paid over $4,000 for AOS, EAD, AP. For EAD and AP renewal for same people, we paid somewhat over $2,000 - the same day the package was received at USCIS, we got the notification about the approval of our I-485!

Dropping the 'Lord' from your name will substantially drop the lawyer fees :)

Not sure if this would be of any help.... I paid lawyer's fee of $10k for my whole family (myself, my husband, my daughter and my son) for the whole green card process ( Labor Cert, I-140, I-485, I-765 and AP) plus the filing fees.

The lawyer that I plan on going to is located in Miami, I figure based on that what you just said, for two people it might cost me about $8,000.00 two do two people which includes the USCIS fees.

Get feedback from the people who have dealt with the prospective lawyer you plan to meet . My present lawyer (based in LA) is my third lawyer already and I am very very pleased with his services. He accompanied me and my family in Toronto Canada for our Hvisa stamping and he was so supportive. I even got an installment payment plan for the $10k legal fee (paid in 2 years) for the green card process, and I deal directly with him and not his paralegals. You need to fully trust the lawyer you will get. Good luck!

Hi:

My Lawyer only charged me for the actions she took, for example to renew our EAD's she would charge the EAD + 150 dollars for her, the same thing with the AP renewal, the fee + 200US$ fee for the attorneys services.

Hope this helps, regards!!

Dont pay your lawyer for anything you can do yourself. You can file a lot of applications yourself. Especially EAD and AP renewal. And if you need lawyer's advice you can get it for free here http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19953

well looks like you are a true lord of enemey of hard earned money, can't you fill simple forms by your self, go to immihelp.com and see the sample forms forms. search for the civil surgeon in your are on uscis website. call them make a appoinement. for immunization go to your own doctor tell him that you need immunixations for your immigration.

this is a 485 ead and ap, not a i140 applications.

I was reading the Ombudsman report from the USCIS and it said that 67% of the cases filed are return with RFEs. The reason given are some cases are filed by first timers and some are filed without the use of lawyers. That statistic is a little too high, wouldn't you want to hire a credible lawyer in your community and sacrifice the payment to have that peace of mind that the chances of USICIS requesting a RFE or your case being delayed because the USCIS suspect misrepresentation in some way or form.

From reading all these immigration message boards, I have come to the conclusion that there are two types of people. There are ones who educate themselves on the whole immigration process and acquire the confidence to file on their own, I give them a lot of credit for doing that. And there are also those that are very well educated about the process but, want the security of a lawyer which I prefer because you never know what other benefits you may apply for. I am right?!!!!!!!

The lawyer I am going to, also offers the same services where you do not deal with paralegals but with lawyers themselves. In addition, I also checked a website where he is highly rated in his profession and his peers. And he also offers an installment plan to his clients.

You may want to check out the implied APR on the installment plan. You are talking about lawyers here. Lord or commoner, lawyers take no hostages :-)

why spend money on lawyer for renewal of documents like EAD and AP. If you have extra then donate it, their blessing will help you in getting the GC processed in a miraculous manner.
