Topic: Rip-off??? Do I really need Hepatitis A and B vaccines????
I got RFE for the second medical exam with the new I693. I only have one more week to submit this, and the doctor is telling me I need Hep A and B vaccines and the flu shot!!! Oh my, did I encounter a rip-off doctor? She charged me $60 for each vaccine on top of $200 exam fee, x-ray, blood test fees etc. I know there are lots of discussions about TB test. Now I am afraid she will not put the paperwork correctly.....should I go to a different doctor? Do you get to see the paperwork before you sign?

Usually they should give you a copy...your lawyer may want to keep a copy too. Of course, the originals will be in a sealed envelope.
|
Where do you live, torapan?
I can give the name of a doctor in NY.
|
Those vaccines are required, even if you got them in your own Country. There are places where you can get those vaccines for free. Just do a google search. But if you choose to do it with the doctor certified by them, it would cost you more. $200 is what they normally charge.

I took the shots back at my home country, i had the proove and showed them to the doctor, he signed off on them.
I had most of what is required and paid my doctor $135

I was looking at your case and something catch my attention.
Why were you asked to do medical again?
Your application is not even one year old!
Your mailing date is Aug 2007, your original medical exam is still valid and there is more, for those applicants from July-Aug/07 the medical exam will be valid until 2009.

USCIS Extends Validity of Expiring Medical Certifications I-693
In a recent memorandum, USCIS has once again renewed their policy to extend the validity of the civil surgeon's endorsement on Form I-693 for cases that have been pending for longer than a year. Generally, the endorsement on Form I-693 is valid for one year and this form is concurrently filed with Adjustment of Status applications. However due to various backlog issues, some of these applications remain pending for longer than the one year period. If USCIS did not provide this extension then petitioners would be forced to undergo another examination and submit a new Form I-693 to USCIS after the already submitted medical examination form expires after one year.
To deal with this problem, USCIS has announced that the validity of the civil surgeon's endorsement on Form I-693, when submitted in support of a concurrently filed adjustment of status application, is extended until the time of adjudication if no Class A or Class B medical condition is certified by the civil surgeon.
This means that if you have filed your I-485 case, along with Form I-693, but your case has been delayed at the service center, your Form I-693 will not expire after one year and will instead remain valid until your I-485 case is adjudicated. This is only true for those persons who were not found to have either Class A or B medical condition. This policy will be in effect until January 1, 2009.

Thank you for the info, everyone. My immunization record said "Hep B antibody." That means I only need Hep A??? Flu shot really?
krusty: Thank you, but I live in LA. Here is the email I got from my attorney.
We received the RFE that was issued by immigration for your I-485 case. In order to proceed with your case, immigration is requesting the following:
Copy of your birth crtificate (foreign language document with English translation) showing your parentage, which has been registered by the proper civil authorities.
Currently dated 'intent to employ' letter.
Completed medical exam. Please visit the following link to locate an authorized civil surgeon: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=CIV. The medical exam must be returned to to our office in the sealed envelope provided by the doctor. Please be aware that the medical exam previously provided is no longer valid becuase the form I-693 has been revised by immigration.
Please provide our office with the documentation and medical exam requested above by July 18, 2008.

Good info b1425.
That means he doesn't need any shot!

you do not need any of these vaccine (hep A, B), you only need MMR and Td ( or dPT)boosters, for sure.
