just curious about layoffs after one gets his/her gc. i know it's customary for those who got their employment based gc's to stay w/ their employer 6 months after getting their card. that is so as not to raise any questions/suspicions when renewing gc or when applying for citizenship. but what if your employer lays you off right after you get your gc? will that be an issue?... especially when you apply for citizenship?

I don't have any supporting documents other than logic, and with that my answer would be, as long as you have a document saying that you got laid off, there shouldn't be any problem at all. Answering your question wasn't why I decided to post here, cause i think your question answers itself BUT I'm just sooo surprised that some people continue to have anxiety and restlessness even after getting the GC. I keep telling myself that the day I'll get the approval email, I'll close the immigration chapter of my life and turn my focus elsewhere, and it amazes me that many here in this forum refuse to relax and enjoy being a permanent resident and soon to be a citizen. I donno if anybody else shares my view.

I agree that we can relax after getting a GC. However, always remember that getting a GC doesn't mean that we're no deportable. A single criminal case can make a GC deportable. And after five years, if a GC holder would apply for Naturalization, that's another mess. Right now the wait is 18 months. And you know what, if one is denied in Naturalization application, that could also spell disaster unless reason for denial is did not pass the exam or other minor reasons.
I have seen cases where GC holders were put in removal proceedings after Naturalization got denied.
Why am I telling this? We must also be careful in every step we make even if we already have a GC just as how we careful we were not to lose our status when we were non-immigrants.
Imagine that you already settled here and just for a simple mistake in the past, a certain prospect in the future ruined your life.
Going back to OPs question: I think it's alright. Just make sure he keep the documentation for future use.

I wasn't suggesting at all joining a heroin trafficking cult once you get your GC. Most of the ppl in this forum are highly educated and decent. me for example have been here for 12 years, if we just do what we have been doing for the long years waiting for the GC we shouldn't have any problem with Gc or citizenship, all I'm saying is we need to drop the anxiety of the uncertainty and move on. Feel like you're in your own country already. Most of us here aren't getting the GC in a lucky lottery drawing or because we got married to Americans, we are getting it the hard way, and I'm proud of that. and BTW, not the simplest crime will deport you, misdemeanors don't, it has to be a felony, I mean guys comon, I've seen ppl asking after getting the GC if they could use the American line coming in the airport rather than visitors!!!
