Topic: Stimulus Package -2007
Posted by Phoenix71 (64) 29 Aug 2008
I ahve submitted my tax return for 2007(Joint with my wife) and still waiting for the return. I did not have her SSN number at that time and submiited only with ITIN. Now I have her SSN number . Can I resubmit 2007 tax retrun and claim the stimulus package?
Did anyone do that?

I did the same for my daughter (submitted tax return with ITIN number). The IRS website specifically said that in this case (when the SSN number is received after the deadline) the stimulus package should be claimed next fiscal year and no tax return resubmissions will be accepted ...

Hi,

I am in the same situation. One slight difference though, my wife had her SSN but by mistake I used her ITIN number. I tried filing an amendment, but it was of no use.

I called up IRS to find out why. I was told that the stimulus refunds were given based on original filing only and amendments would not be considered. The IRS agent told me that for 2008 returns, there MAY BE provisions for people like to us to claim the missed refund.

Regards

I also have seen the Oct 15,2008 in IRS website. To me it seems that this date is valid for those who have not yet submitted their tax return or who ever took extension. I am not sure those who have already submitted can resubmit within this date.

Looking at the subject, I thought there is a "Stimulus Package" coming for GC which would return the unused VISA numbers from the last few years............. the mind runs in all kind of directions that would make us Green for the Green.
