Topic: HR 5882 Support Thread - CALL YOUR U.S REPRESENTATIVE !!
Posted by DesiVidesi (389) 16 Sep 2008
09/17/2008 : 10:15 A.M. (EST) in 2141 Rayburn House Office Building - Full Commitee meeting to discuss HR 5882 Visa Capture Bill introduced by Ms. Zoe Lofgren.

Supporting this bill will help everyone stuck in the immigration mess. For once, let us all forget any differences, category, priority...LET US ALL CALL OUR REPRESENTATIVES BEFORE 10.00 AM EST TODAY AND SAY THAT YOU SUPPORT THIS BILL.

Anti-immigrant groups like NumbersUSA and racists like Lou Dobbs are bombarding everyone with false information stating that this bill will bring over 550,000 people into the US while the fact is that it will provide much needed green cards to LEGALS who have been paying taxes, social security, following the law and helping boost the US economy for years.

We legals, need to work together as one, call every senator possible to show your support to this bill and defeat the anti-immigrant groups who are doing all that they can to stop us from being part of the American dream !!

So, please friends, show your support !!

I'm not an IV member but for this one, I fully support all efforts by them and anyone else to get this bill passed.

Go through the following link and call the senators given in that list:-
http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21393

Or contact your senator using the U.S. Capitol switchboard number (202) 224-3121 and say YES to the HR 5882 bill.

In case you need to know who your senator is, enter your zip code in the 'Take Action Now' box at the AILA site below.

http://congress.org/aila2/issues/bills/?bill=11328731

You may need to enter your address to get the correct senator if your zip is split into different legislative districts. Find out your senator and contact him/her ASAP today to show your support for the bill.

Please call the senator's office by phone as time is of the essence.

DesiVidesi,

How does call to the senator works? Is it interactive Voice Message? Or do you speak to somebody from senator office?

This will help trackitter members and can call. Also if imgt here can decide what to talk which gives better effect..

Let us make sure that every immigrant will call senator. no matter whether his/her GC is done.

This is what I've gathered from the IV site,

"Please use the instructions provided below to make the phone calls.

(1) Call the congressman/woman office and request to speak with the aide who handles Legislative and Immigration matters.

2) If they are not available leave a Voice Message for them -

"I would like Representative "Representative Name" to support HR 5882 bill to recapture the green cards lost due to processing and bureaucratic delays. As you may already know that this is a bi-partisan bill with wide bi-partisan support in the house and will help improve American competitiveness & reduce the back logs associated with USCIS. This bill's non controversial measures will help the US to stay competitive with a highly educated and skilled work force and address family based backlogs also.

I did call the U.S. Capitol switchboard number (202) 224-3121 and said YES for the HR 5882 bill. It seems pretty easy to call and say YES for the bill to your senator. So any one visiting tracitt please do it as its good for all of us for the coming years.

Thank you, both.

Trackitters, please call the Capitol switchboard number and support the bill. It will take just a few minutes of your time and will save years in the greencard process.

Hi All,
Just for reference to anyone who would like to support via email or written text this effort, below is the letter I sent to my representative. I used some text from DesiVidesi's template to expedite this (DesiVidesi, thanks for this brilliant effort).

"Dear Representative,
Please accept a lot of heart felt thanks for initiating and/or supporting the numerous changes for the welfare of the employment based green card applicants and thus the US economy, during the past year.

I request you to kindly support the bipartisan bill (Bill H.R. 5882), to "recapture" EB visa numbers introduced by Congresswoman Lofgren and Rep. Sensenbrenner.

This gives well educated, skilled, law abiding, tax paying, "LEGAL" immigrants under employment based category a ray of hope with regards to avoiding huge delays and cost associated with immigration process with USCIS. These visas otherwise end up being unused.

Recapturing these unused visa numbers via this HR 5882 allows folks stuck in various backlog centers during different stages of employment based process with USCIS, to overcome uncertainities and contribute more effectively towards growing US economy. This also considerably helps families of those stuck in this process like allowing them to avail permanent residence status and pursue their endeavours with respect to education and career.

Please note, if approved, this will help people stuck the longest in complex USCIS process, given they've come through backlog processing at various stages and now face a long wait due to unavailable visa numbers when there are these huge unused visa numbers from past.

I have firm faith in your leadership and a strong feeling that you would certainly support this noble cause. "

I faxed the following last week:

September 18, 2008

Honorable John Conyers
United States House of Representatives
2426 Rayburn Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Mr. Chairman

I write today to urge you to re-schedule a full committee markup of HR5882.

HR5882, though modest in the measure, will have a far reaching and life changing effect to the lives of thousands of legal employment based immigrants – including scientists, researches, professors, engineers, doctors and medical professionals - currently waiting to obtain a permanent resident status. I am one of these unfortunate people who have been stuck in the legal maze of lengthy legal immigration process. I have been living and working in the United States for a decade, as a student and a professional.

Like me, the individuals who might benefit from HR5882 are already working and living legally in the United States, obeying all laws and paying all taxes at par with U.S. Citizens. However these individuals are severely restricted in career growth, in pursuing entrepreneur aspirations that will create American jobs, or even in securing a mortgage despite qualifying for one. Timely processing of employment based green cards will allow skilled immigrants to greatly increase their positive contribution to the economy, drive innovation, and increase competitiveness. HR5882 will allow USCIS to process immigration applications more effectively, without increasing the overall immigration quota, and without changing the underlying principles and intent of the current immigration laws.

I urge you to use your authority and influence to bring HR5882 to or for? a full committee markup at the earliest possible time and help it push through the legislative process.

Sincerely,

FULL NAME
