Topic: a sad story of american dream
Well, that's just plain mental. The guy clearly needed professional help.
|
Hey Babe:)
I understand that it was a mental case but the financial crisis is the reason for this mental situation, I guess. Otherwise his successful history does not show any bad mental health.

I don't know... It sounds to me like a mental case that went untreated for a long time...
|
A sad story for a nice well educated person.... I wish he wasnt hard on his family atleast
|
This has absolutely nothing to do with the American dream. Unemployment is no reason to butcher your family. He could have killed himself and allowed to others to go on with their lives for God's sake. Do you know how many American citizens are unemployed at the moment? They're dealing with it and not killing their families. This man is a COWARD, there is absolutely no honor in what he did. His wife had a job, the first son had a scholarship to UCLA. He is truly pathetic and hopefully he will get rotten in hell.
|
One of his sons is a fulbright scholar and honor student at UCLA. His other children are bright and doing well in school. I can't think of any reason that justifies such an action except personal religious belief that the next life is better and you can meet your whole family in the next life. But that's not proven though.
|
This is close to us Northridge... and I heard this story. Sad, can't think of anyone who can kill his own kids unless you're mentally sick.
|
I think He is too greeeeeeeeeeeedy for money.... once he made millions and had fun.... he want to make more money .... money.... he got mental..
No reason to blame US economy..... if he is on H1-B and stuck here with out job.. for many days..... and having ill parents.. bliend sister... uneducated brother.. ( aka. old movies ) then i would have felt sorry.... but for this greedy fellow no need to feel sad...
ofcourse we need to feel sad for the rest of the family... except this greedy animal....May god bless their souls...
|
This is probably just the beginning of another depression. So many stupid capitalists in this forum and outside argue a lot about managing finances and how capitalism help people achieve their american dream oblivion of failures happen at times like present What we are seeing and going through irrespective of creed and nationality is the utmost failure of free markets and no regulation. One cant have everything in life ... see china and USA.. people should realize what they have gained and what they have lost...
Killing is not a solution but again i have no idea what an MBA finance graduate went thorough before committing this heinous and stupid crime.
|
A tragic murder + suicide story. And even though people may blame him, a severe financial crunch can definitely make a person crazy.
Having to support 3 kids + wife + mother-in-law, lack of job for months, no money and no-way out can bring even the most strong willed person to his knees.
This is not the time to play the blame game. Let us pray that their spirits rest in peace and that the economic situation worldwide improves. There maybe millions of other Karthik Rajaram's in the world at this moment wondering what to do to feed self and family.
Rest in Peace.
|
We are all f***ed. It helps to remember that.
George Carlin
|
DesiVidesi i disagree that the financial crunch is to be blamed. His wife was a pharmacist it's not like there was no income coming in the household. They owned 2 suvs one of which was a lexus. why couldn't he sell one since he was at home? All families are making sacrifices across the board. They are giving up luxuries and sticking to basics , even the very rich. What did he do with all that money he earned ? There has to be more to this story. This man is not a victim in my eyes. He is a coward who murdered his family and decided to take his life after.
|
Suicide is not a solution for any problem. It's foolishness.
His family paid the price for his mistake.
Life is more important than GC, JOB, Stocks etc.
We all are facing problems. But it's part of life.

Yes, I cannot beleive this without assuming what sfbabe said... I think it could be just tip of iceberg.. it could be murder or other planned things.. 19year old per any world standard is old enough to take care of himself... get a job or save him self from 45 year old... Hope police do more investigation then branding the event like this...
Plus where do you guys see that they were GC aspirants.. They may be GC Holders or Citizens... But yes the housing bubble is something to worry about.. Can even imagine having a house worth 100K and mortgage loan of 300K or so.. It can take sanity out of anyone esp if one is jobless for couple of months...
Check this video.. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4343898391323537541&hl=en (talks about gloabalization and housing bubble background slightly).. Found it very knowledgeful...
|
I am very sorry for him and his family. He was a bright man and so were his children. The 19 year old was at UCLA. Very sad. I also read the comments from other Indians. They opened a forum for this article.
If we do not get our GCs we should not worry. It is not the end of the world. Nothing is worth it.
|
This man has problem and his actions are not excusable !!! So I just finished watching 'In Pursuit of Happiness' for the second time. Now that is someone whom we should think of more (idolize)
|
I really felt sorry for this man and his family.
Similar incidents has happened during the Great depression between 1929 - 1930's.
Great depression started in the US in 1929 and it got carried over to all parts of the world.
History says people were just eating soups and nothing else. All economies and stock markets collapsed.
Many millionaires has jumped out of their windows and killed themselves when they lost al their money overnight.
And after all that, US was able to survive and come back as a super power.
Economies will have ups and downs. Things will get back to normal.
(We are doing better....still in recession. No depression yet).

materialism and greed are sick and eventually cause problems like this. they breed ego and sense of inflated honor, such as being the provider of a large family living perverse ideas like "the american dream", e.g. expensive house, expensive cars, flaunting money here and there just to show they have it. once they stop being able to afford it, as is the case here, they go ballistic.
look no further than obsession with snobbery and acquisition of visible wealth. it is a vicious circle. may i suggest readings by THORSTEIN VEBLEN ?
question what the society has taught you ! MEN - you idiots of the modern day - question all the work your woman is driving you to do to be a "model citizen" and afford her the big house and the big SUV and provide to her sick little offspring - it will drive you crazy into things like this. you'll be better off living a modest life in a hut on the outskirts of delhi.
THINK !
oh, yeah, also: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169547/

|
Please, this guy was mentally ill, do not blame the US economy. There is a lot of people having worst problems in Africa, heck even here in America.
Killing your family, just because you cannot afford your lexus anymore is CRAZY
|
chase dollar suckers.. chase untill you die..
you will never be happy..
buying 850k house in LA is the only dream in your life ??
i have no respect for these folks..
leaving behind family to go get a MBA degree from UCLA tell me that this guy was greedy..
|
This should be lesson for every human being -
Though I feel very sad, but everyone should learn out this. You are fortunate enough to see & know this story when you are on this earth. Please Please guys learn out of this story.
You may be well settled, rich and have everything (including HOUSE, GC & Citizenship) in the life or do not have anything. All these are temporary senses of life and you should be able to win your mind particularly when you are depressed or running in a bad time. I think this is the state of mind which made him to think and do like this.
After going through the hell, myself couple of years ago, I think positively about his state of mind than the mistakes he has done.
Some times even when you are not in depression but this kind of thinking may cause (1) if you work too hard, (2) an environment you are in, (3) people around you (4) sometimes even if you are too happy & excited and etc.
What I am trying to say is, one should be in their present moment and eveluate self, before running into depression. Win your mind then you will win everything in your life. Rather we are always looking for did I win over others than thinking self.
Thanks
|
niceguy i feel sad for all the top B school big dream boys that leave behind a smart beatiful housewife at home with kids to get a freaking MBA at 35.. fuck dollar man.. fuckit .. dollar can kill you.. and here we are.. y take loans , y put yourself in stress ? y cant human beings be happy with what they have ??
|
materialism and greed under the guise of being "a responsible husband, father, and a society member" is, unfortunately, not unique to america, as a matter of fact is even more pronounced in the 3rd world. there is pressure on people to work like crazy and give things up for the sake of a perceived image and being a model citizen. too many people are too concerned with their image and are willing to give up core intrinsic happiness to be reputed well in the society.
yes, obsession with "conspicuous consumption" is even more deeply rooted in backward places like russia, far asia, africa, latin america, etc., USA being the worst of all the western countries. i have noticed that far asians so darn greedy, they are willing to work 25 hrs and maybe sell their mother to be able to afford sick things like louis vuitton, etc. IMHO, western europeans are the least prone to these social ills. it is commensurate with the level of human development of a region.
|
This is what happens when you have to shop at Walmart after you shop at Armani for your whole life. The guy must have had mental issues. Killed his family...thats pathetic.
|
I totally agree with Greeni2008! That a** h*** should rot in hell. He has no freaking rights to kill his family. May he never take birth on this beautiful planet created by God. There is so much in life than just stupid $$$$ and assests. I have been through worse in life and I am sure many have. That doesn't give us the right to kill others and specially our own family. I have never slapped my kids imagine person like this MENTAL guy literally killing his family.
May his family rest in peace and may he ROT in Hell.
|
All,
Appreciate everyones' remarks.
I will say all of you are no different and one point of time in your life, you may face the same, if you think negative about this guy and wish go to hell etc. I feel sad about all you guys but not about him. I would say again you are unable win over your mind and just writing what ever you feel. Restrain your mind and think before writing.
Be matured enough. The difficulties for all of us in our life are nothing but to realize ourself. This is what our Vedas also say.
I do agree with all of you that what he has done is wrong but Please Please donot scold this guy and not wish that this guy should be in hell etc.
Thanks
|
Though watever he did is not right, please do not critisize a man who is not alive anymore.
Its not justified in any culture.
|
unfortunately vedas dont tell ya to stop chasing dollar.
husbands going wild to fake wifes resume to get a job, waiting for EAD so he can send his new born to work..

yeah and all the hindu sacred imagery is rife with opulence and glamour - look at all the ganeshas and krishnas etc. - the message is pretty clear to the faithful ...

this has nothing to do with green card. this man has been in the USA from 1987 his kids were born here. by now he should have been a citizen . He has made money and must have been one of the greedy ones who invested to make even more and lost it all.

agreed - has to do with the bigger picture that GC is often part of - mindless pursuit of $$ while actually forgetting the ultimate reward - pleasure in life. it is a story of a "responsible provider" yet a joyless man deprived of humane senses and beauty in life.
AGAIN, tonight is a good night to watch: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169547/

foampile i agree with you. Europeans and Asians that live in their home country are much more happy.
Yeah a cuppa capucino cost 2 euros in italy and cover charge is 1 euro but hey people are happy.
looks at america we have everything.. cheap stuff in walmart and made in china addicted citizens yet happiness factor is 0.
sad.. god never gives everything.
be it allah, jesus, ganesha, moses anyone..
he never gives everything..
now all ya rich bastards get back to work

well he messed up , he made a profit on selling his house which he bought for 297k and sold for 750k , he cud have kept the money but instead took out two other mortgages of 241k , that is pure lack of common sense , economy is bad , unemployment can really break down someone , but anyone should be prudent enuf to save for rainy days like these , not everyday can be warm and sunny

This is what many are ignoring. Greed and bad choices got him in the mess, not the economy or unemployment. Many of te people in the housing mess did pretty much the same.

amen, Greeni2008 ! let's not overlook personal accountability. while "values" like greed, materialism, and their ilk are strongly inculcated and reverberated by the society we live in, at the end of the day, we all have choices to be weak and for fall for the pressures or adhere to what we think is right.

This is what really happened. He screwed up royally. Read the paragraph carefully.
The family appears to have been well-off at one time. According to the Los Angeles Times, they sold their home in Northridge in 2006 for $750,000, making a sizeable profit on a home they purchased in 1997 for $274,000. They had also taken out two loans for $241,400.
|
I think the guy needed help.
|
this is what we know through media!
Who knows something personally happned and being blamed on the finances!
again i dont think what he did is right but dont curse him it was his problem and his life! he is dead now!
dont feel sorry for him but just done curse him

dude, your spelling measures up to cultural genocide.
|
The guy was a mental case. Everyone wants to save their kids and this guy killed his sons. He needed a psychiatric help. A sad story but don't blame it on financial turmoil. There are millions of people everyday who have worst condition than this guy but they don't kill their family. They do everything to save their family. I guess that this guy accepted the fact that for rest of his life he couldn't fight back to gain his lost position.
|
dude , why dont u send me your resume. I need english teacher. that way u can earn some more $$ in spare time. anyways u spending that spare time in checking others spelling, u better teach me. it will help ur green for extra $$ too
