Topic: Physical Card and Card approval copies tracker
You'll get an I-797 approval notice for the I-485, and in a separate mailing you'll get the card itself. I think for almost everyone it takes 7 days between the first notifications from CRIS that something's happening, and getting the card itself.
My sequence of events was:
June 11: LUD (card manufacturing ordered)
June 12: LUD (I-485 approved)
June 13: Soft LUD
June 15: LUD (card mailed to applicant)
June 16: Soft LUD
June 16: I-797 approval notice received (postmarked June 14th... it was sent from the service center's address)
June 18: I-551 card received (postmarked June 14th... it was sent from the manufacturing facility in Kentucky)
My card's "permanent resident since" date is June 11th, just FYI.

Folks,
Out of the blue, the magic email arrived few hours ago "Card Production Ordered". I am still processing this news. Whew!!! (This is it Right?)
But, to the question now, I am scheduled to leave the country on 13th Dec. I am not sure I will receive the Physical Green Card before I leave and I don't want to change my travel plans because it is too difficult and costly. What steps should I take now. Off course, I have my AP with me.
Any assistance is highly valued--Thanks

Ok received card on 12/07 - a milestone achieved!... Good Luck all.

I guess the best thing would be to schedule an infopass appointment, have the immigration officer look up your records and see that you've been approved and they ought to be able to get you a temporary I-551 stamp in your passport that you can use to re-enter the country if you have to leave before the real card arrives.
If even that doesn't work out, I guess you have to show the airline at checkin your current visa (which will allow you to board the plane at least), and then explain the situation to the inspector when you reach the border.

ajs4123, thanks for the advice, much appreciate it. Will do the same. This was much hunch, but wanted to check here. I have also contacted my lawyer's office, but friday evening, they are out partying I guess.
Thanks
|
I was in a similar situation - but luckily my card arrived just in time for my international trip in a few days. As someone pointed out, the best course of action would be to get the I-551 stamped on the passport (I believe the physical card also goes by the number I-551 so you're essentially getting the stamped equivalent of the physical one). This was suggested by my attorney as well, who said that had I been outside the country when my case was approved I could have re-entered US using the AP but since I'm in the country I should get the stamp on the passport if I didn't get the card on time. Hope this helps.

needed to know if the welcome notice and the approval notice are the same thing? also, how long is a picture valid for the GC? i gave my picture back in Feb 2004 and my prints in dec 2006. my approval came this month. thank you in advance for any feedback.
|
Welcome notice and approval notice are different. I don't think you need to worry about the picture on your card. If at all they want a new picture, USCIS will contact you. Good luck.

I got everything in the mail so far except the approval notice.
I got "Approval Notice Sent" email on 12/03/2007 but it did not show up in our mail until now. How is it for you guys? Can somebody share their time line for receiving the actual approval notice?
Btw, do you get or your lawyer gets it?

I think that's it. I received welcome notice and green card. My last update on the web site is "approval notice sent" but I think it's referred to the welcome notice.
Is there anyone who got three different documents (welcome, card, approval)?

You should get the I-797 approval notice separately - in fact mine arrived before the card arrived. Maybe your attorneys already got their copy?
The approval notice will be mailed from the service center processing your case; the card is mailed from the manufacturing facility in Kentucky.

I received one copy of the I-797 approval notice addressed to my home address, and the attorneys also received a copy. In my case the approval notice arrived even before the card arrived.
|
12/04/07 : Card Production Ordered
12/12/07 : Cards received
|
My Approval notice was sent on Dec 03 2007, haven't received it yet. I have received Cards and Welcome notice in the first week of Dec. Have you received yours ?
|
If you used an attorney, a copy of the approval notice would have been sent to them as well - maybe they can send you their copy? I wouldn't worry about it too much though, once you have the card that's all you really need.

Thanks ajs4123, I will check with my lawyer today.
I was trying find out if:
1. There is a delay from USCIS is mailing out Approval Notices or
2. Approval notices are mailed out to layers only. or
3. Mine is lost in mail.
GotIT and EverGreenInd: Have you received your approval notices (or only lawyer received it or both) ?
|
I ended up getting two I-797s, the first showed up two days after CRIS told me that it had been mailed, and after a while my attorneys sent me the copy that they received. That was back in June though... (yes, why am I still posting to trackitt?!) (-;
It does appear that others have failed to get their I-797, though.
Cheers...

Mine -( EB2-India-12/2003)
I have received Physical card and welcome notices in 1st week of Dec. My Lawyer received I797(It says welcome notice) and sent it to me on 12th Dec.
Is welcome notice different from Approval notice.? I thought lawyer would receive approval notice. Now I am confused.
Is any one received Approval notice that looks different from Welcome notice.??
|
From what I have heard (I might be wrong), three postal mails are sent upon Green Card approval:
1. Card Itself
2. Welcome Notice
3. Approval Notice for I-485 petition.
Some people reported not receiving Welcome notice. But looks like recently they are not sending Approval notices anymore or so it seems.
|
EverGreenInd,
Can you please let us know when you have received the last LUD?did you get it from Nov quota
Thanks
|
I never got a welcome notice in a separate mail, I got a "Welcome to the United States" pamphlet in the same envelope as the greencard but I dunno if that was what we're supposed to receive.
|
No that pamphlet is not the Welcome notice. Welcome notice is I-797 approval notice type document, which says Notice Type: Welcome Notice. The Approval Notice says Notice Type: Approval Notice.
|
I received the card in less than a week (TSC), I received the I-797 two days after the card. The timing is a bit off because the I-797 says that I may expect to receive the card in about 60 days, but I actually received the card prior to the I-797 notice. Good luck to all.
