Are you trying to say we steal all the american jobs? Yes, we do. And not only that.
As a matter of fact I myself designed systems that caused the hundreds of layoffs and am proud of it.

hi libr76,

I have a similar RFE,

How many years of W-2s did they ask? Did they ask for any tax papers?

This is why my room is such a mess. I've kept all papers since I've been here. (even I-20's from high school). Always scared that they'll ask some crazy thing like: can you prove that you weren't out of status 15 years ago.

It's a small hassle, but you can't predict the USCIS.

they have asked me I-20 from 1996, luckily I had a copy

Guys

Can anyone tell me what is the minimum wage to get qualified for EB-3?

What is the minimum wage to be qualified for EB-2?

Please excuse my ignorance.. I applied through NIW and the job and income was not required for this category....

There is prevailing wage, depends on state and profession.
(reply) (report this)
Posted by bestia (1034) 03 Apr 2008
zma, it doesn't matter Eb2 or Eb3. It depends on state and job position (eb2 or eb3 depend on job requirements). I don't know about others, but my minimum wage was $33 per hour.

(reply) (report this)
Posted by bestia (1034) 03 Apr 2008

Nope, humble software engineer with all the required years. The prevailing wages also depend on how many years of experience is required for the particular position. Prevailing "senior software engineer" was $42 per hour.

Come on, 1 bedroom apartment was $300,000 in North Hollywood :) how would you survive on less salary?

oops. my bad.

I did similar thing: filed PERM in 2006 & keeping the PD from stuck labor, which caused the case to be touched and !!BAM!!, the old labor went certified and 1 month later the PERM case goes certified.
Well company paid so I don't care.

Interesting, because technically when you apply for PERM and transfer PD you have to withdraw the old labor. I guess what happened with your case, is that your old labor was certified (or pre-certified) when you filed for PERM. So you just had PERM "recertification" :)

But it doesn't matter, my company paid too, I wouldn't mind applying for 5 PERMs concurrently :)

Why go to the sticks?

$339K will now get you a 6 bedroom/4 bath 3300sq/ft house with jacuzzi on a hill with water views in Southern California.

This is all thanks to the sub-prime meltdown (same house sold for $550K 2 years ago).

And what are you gonna do with that house in OR? You can buy even cheaper in Mexico. My friend bought a house in TX and was telling me "I have such huge backyard". To which I responded "And so? How often you sit in your backyard with all these mosquitoes and heat?" I'd rather have 1 bedroom in Santa Monica, than 10 bedroom in OR/TX/OH. You still need one bedroom to sleep, right?

Bottom line, I am trying to say, is life in places like CA, NY or NJ is expensive and high salaries do not pull it off in my opinion. You may get a lot of money but can't really afford anything. I have seen closely people living in NYC and it puzzles me why don't they move. Commute 1.5 hours, 450K mortgage, high property tax, tolls, traffic, crowded. F. that. CA is better but similar. It is hype.

I knew few people in Portland who moved from CA to OR (RE boom speed up migration process). They are very glad after making this choice. And the opposite is true, I knew a Potland guy who was considering transfer to CA. He refused big bonus and pay increase, was not worth it.

This is a cost of living comparison for my pay back in Portland vs LA (senior IT pro). Portland is growing rapidly and there are many jobs there or traditionally in Seattle nearby.

Quote from http://www.bestplaces.net:
To maintain the same standard of living, your salary of $105,000 in Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, Oregon should increase to $146,806 in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, California
Stated another way, it's 39.8% more expensive to live in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, California than Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, Oregon

It's event cheaper in NY(!):

To maintain the same standard of living, your salary of $105,000 in Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, Oregon should increase to $141,944 in New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, New York
Stated another way, it's 35.2% more expensive to live in New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, New York than Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, Oregon

Paychecks may look bigger in CA but savings end up being small. I am sad to see my fellow countryman wasting his valuable time chasing hyped up miracles.

Ninja, it all comes down to your personal preferences and your future plans. I don't see myself working for somebody, I want to own my own business, make my own money. I don't care how much I spend and how much I earn now - it just doesn't matter for me. I consider money only big MONEY - your businesses, property, land, stocks, buildings. Making $50k or $200k - makes no difference to me. America is a capitalist country, you will fully enjoy American life only if you will be capitalist yourself. Meanwhile I don't care if I live in 1 bedroom, 10 bedroom apartment, house, studio - doesn't matter. That's why I chose the most crowded place - LA. And I guess I'm not alone. That's why the cost of living in NYC, SF, LA are so high in compare to the salaries, because here people can pursue their dreams, that's what they pay for - it's not all about number of bedrooms. My former employer is example of this, came here 15 years ago, spent 7 years struggling, now he travels to Hawaii on his own yacht... Hell.. that's what I want, not lousy houses and apartments.

If you want to just live quiet life, have wife, kids, go to work at 9, come back at 5. have BBQs on weekends. Travel somewhere once/twice a year using some discounts, pass your life like that. Then, yeah, Oregon, Tennessee, Idaho are perfect states for this. It's all up to your way of life.

If one likes warm weather and the ocean, then I think south carolina is ideal place to settle down. If you are just looking for a nice calm place to settle down and if you are not a beach bum, then Nashville, TN is excellent.

Denver is very pretty with the rockies in the backdrop as you drive on highway 6W into downtown Denver from boulder, but the city and its suburbs is no longer easy on the pockets if you planning to buy a house.

I have lived in Europe as well, and I think that after leaving there I do not complain about mortgages in this country.

I love fast life. That is why I love NYC, while I was in other cities in this country, I literally had to pick each person up and move them to the side to pass them, life was so slow. But I am glad that I am in NYC and everything seems to move at a normal pace to me :) Just my personal choice :) I will work longer hours if need be to sustain this lifestyle.

Check your job description/level and match with soc.Onet codes on dept of labor website. At Sr developer (level 3 and above) it can get between 80-110k easily.
