Topic: British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program Applicants -- Processing Timelines
Posted by air3973 (7) 15 Feb 2008
Hi! I am a BC PNP Applicant and I'm interested in discussing processing timelines with other applicants. My application was submitted on Jan 15, 2008. I got the acknowledgment from the BC PNP office on Jan. 31, 2008. I am now waiting for the next communication from them. I hope to hear from other applicants about how your application went or if it's still in process, in what stage it is already. Thanks!

Hi! I have been offered a job in BC and the supporting document we used in the application. It is a requirement for BC PNP to first have a job offer from an employer based in that province.

I see.
But can you work before applying for visa? Just with tourist visa? The employer can wait so much for you to finalize the paperwork?

Thanks ! ; )

You cant work on a tourist visa. If the employer needs you badly, they should be willing to wait until your papers are done.

Hi! That was fast! Congratulations! I see you got your nomination on Dec. 17 but only applied for a Work Permit 2 months later...why is that? Can't you apply for a Work Permit immediately after you've received your nomination? Is this not enough supporting document for a work permit to be approved?

Hi,

Not sure how far you are with your application but I will give you a brief on the process:-

Once you have your BCPNP nomination you can then apply for your work permit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/work.asp this form is really easy to complete also send of $150 for the work permit and then just wait.

We had a delay as our perspective employers did not send out an original offer of employment letter, it previously arrived via email. Also our PNP nomination took ages to be posted in Canada, apparently the post office messed up thus causing further delay in receiving the package in its entirety.

The work permit should really be sent off as soon as the PNP nomination comes back and on the front page of the work permit application form just write (T-10) cannot remember where I saw this instruction but anyway it means you are a "PNP applicant". Just send a photocopy of police check (as our original was sent with our PR application but I wrote a note stating this), original job offer letter, photcopy of passport (the photo part with all your details on), you don't have to show proof of funds as your job offer letter is sufficient. Also any other supporting document they request or you offer.

When they have processed your work permit application you will get a letter stating your work permit has been approved - you then take this letter with you to your port of entry (ours being Vancouver). There appears to be a new system in place which is clearly stated on the bottom of the work permit letter that ~ you must have this in your hand as soon as you get of the plane. The Canadian Border officials will see this and take you through quickly to get things sorted out for you. It sounds all VIP'ish but great all the same.

Hope the above helps - where abouts are you going to be in BC?

Speak soon,
Tracie

Hi Tracie!
That was really so nice of you...I appreciate your account of the whole process. Thank you very much!
I'm actually just in the initial stage of my PNP application. I got the acknowledgment from BCPNP on Jan 31, 2008 and now waiting for them to approve of it (fingers-crossed!). So yeah, your previous message will surely help once the Nominee Certificate arrives...until then, I will just be waiting silently :-)
I have family in Surrey so I will most likely stay there. How bout you?

Hi,

We are going to Kelowna - to be honest we have been really lucky all the way through this process. Even our house was sold in the first week, only one viewing with no chain..........and he wants to expediate the exchange to complete asap. Now it is happening toooo fast!!!! But it's great.

We were originally going to Vancouver but the company which my OH was liaising with failed to get back in touch with us. Most definately a trip is on the cards to go to Vancouver for a weekend as I am intrigued as to why alot of people go there. Big City feeling I guess that most people love. In the end we realised that Vancouver was probably not the best place for us as a family, we have a 3 yr old son. After visiting Kelowna we really felt at home there, small city 110,000 people, somewhat expensive for housing and other cost are quite high but to be honest nowhere is cheap anymore!! Furthermore, they people were so accommodating as I even managed to get our son into a pre-school back in November 07 when we visited for 3 days, even though they didn't take any intake until January 08. The school was fantastic and my OH perspective employers, OMG they just cannot do enough to help us.

I know that feeling of waiting, worrying and giving yourself a headache!!! Honestly, it will all fall into place and then your head will really spin with sooooo much to do and not enough time as all you want to do is leave!

The approval of PNP is approximately 8 weeks but ours was sooo quick. Once you get your nomination, and you will (good luck karma sent), you will get an rather large envelope with green stickers attached inside. There are clear instructions on what to do and the order in which you must send off your PR application and where to put the stickers. Any questions just email me and I will be glad to help.

I hope our GOOD LUCK rubs off on you too!!

Best Wishes, speak soon
Tracie
