Topic: Initial Assessment??
Posted by roeslerjd (1) 21 Nov 2007
What is the Initial Assessment letter? We have had our application in since June 2007 and have received 2 official letters, one saying that they have received the application at the embassy and it can take up to 24 months to process the application, and after we emailed them and basically said "2 years? Are you out of your mind?" they sent us another one saying that they made an error and it should be 5 months.

So my question is; is the Initial Assessment letter something else that we have not received yet?

The Initial Assessment letter is basically sent sometime after they send you the AOR letter. The AOR letter says that the consulate has received your request and will process it in the order in which it was received. The Initial Assessment letter comes later and tells you if they need any other paperwork. In some situations when the visa takes a long time they may send you another request for documents later, Quebec did this when I was applying through QC but at the federal level once I started the visa process for the family class they only asked once. I hope that this helps.
