Topic: Lay Offs Are Happening!!

Same here, people dropping like flies.... My I140 just waiting in the pile in Texas, so far I have survived 2 rounds, more to come in the new year.
Cheers

Same here too. Last 2 days have been brutal. My next door engineer was booted. Today our admin was crying. But I am not very concerned. I got GC but that is not the only reason why I am not worried.

They laid 60% of our group. There is no exaggeration here, but we were only a gruop of 5. Three of us were gone, including the manager !!! By the way, being a manager is the most dangerous thing around this times. If you a producing something, hands-on, or billable, you should be fine - at least for a while.

Have been working in US more than a decade. I have never seen anything like this.

Topic: Going from CPO to Approval notice sent???

For CRIS email notices, do not expect any order.
Any combination is perfectly possible.

CPO->approval->Welcome
Welcome->CPO->approval
CPO->Approval->CPO
CPO->CPO->CPO
nothing->nothing->Card in the mail
card inthe mail->CPO
card in the mail->RFE (yeah I this is possible too)

Just know this: if there is "an email", somebody is working on your case.

Topic: 485 pending loooong - ITIN - Stimulus - EAD - SSN - etc...

Friends,
We've been asking the same questions again and again. Let me try to summarize what I understood here.

I'll start with the basics:

Q. How many stimulus check are there?
A. Only one. You either get it with 2007 return (in 2008) or with 2008 return (in 2009).

Q. We filed 2007 with ITIN, therefore not stimulated. Did we lose it?
A. NO. You may get it with 2008 return if you get a SSN.

Q. Do we need to get SSN before the end of 2008 (12/31/2008)
A. Not necessarily. You're fine as long as you get it before filing your 2008 return (April 15 2009)

Q. What if we couldn't get SSN before April 15 2009?
A. You can file an extension and wait for another 6 months till October. Or better yet, you apply for EAD and get a SSN easily within 2 months.

Q. Can we get an EAD for kids?
A. "YES WE CAN" (thanks OBAMA)

PLEASE BE CAREFUL:
I am NOT saying that the above statements are 100% accurate, but they are the conclusions I got from the discussions in trackitt.

Please correct if you see any mistake.

Topic: 485 pending loooong - ITIN - Stimulus - EAD - SSN - etc...

My conclusion from this and the parallel thread is that:
NO NEED TO WORRY.

If we get the aprroval comfortably-before April 15 2009, we're fine.

That is plenty of time. No need for EAD.

Even if we can't get it by April 15, I can file for extension for additional time.

Thanks for the answers.

Topic: 485 pending loooong - ITIN - Stimulus - EAD - SSN - etc...

Dependents case is pending for almost 16 months. Response to RFE received more than 6 months ago. Nothing has changed.

We haven't called and asked what's going on. (Probably we should)

She has ITIN, so we didn't get stimulus.

Do we have to get a SSN before the end of this year in order to qualify for stimulus next year?

Please don't tell me: "go search Trackitt"
I have already search it but could not find the exact answer.

Should we apply for EAD to get a SSN?

I think we can barely make it before the year end.
Answers appreciated.

Topic: I don't know what to do anymore, I feel hopeless

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Hey Ninja,
Are those your words? They are pretty deep!
Deeper than a russian ninja can utter I say. I respect you.

On another unrelated note:
You were once promoting to invest on commodities. And you were doing pretty good.
How is it coming along? Not crushed yet I hope.
I am not trying to mock you around, but I am seriously thinking on getting into commodities.

Topic: Should we get a SSN before Dec 31st in order to get stimulated ??

It's ok to receive the ssn anytime...not necessarily during a specific timeframe... i got my wife and son's ssn just before last years filing.. i did quote them in the tax return.. things were smooth...

Are you saying that if we get a SSN *anytime* (2008 or 2009) we can get stimulus check next year?

In other words, say we get SSN on Feb 2009, then will we get the stimulus payment based on our 2008 tax return??

I am feeling something's wrong...

Topic: Should we get a SSN before Dec 31st in order to get stimulated ??

I have tried to find info on this in previous threads but couldn't find an exact answer.
Here is our case:

We filed our tax with wife's ITIN. I am pretty sure we won't get stimulated :)

Can we still get stimulus check if we obtain a SSN for her before the end of this year?

Her case may be approved anytime, but:
should we apply for EAD so that we can get a SSN?
Do you think we can it on time, before the end of this year?
Last, should we file EAD thru a lawyer or can I file by ourselves?
Thanks.

Topic: "Approval" & "Resident Since" Dates are different - why?

After a long CPO, I got the card.

Everything on the card seems correct. Except it says: Resident since: 04/30/08.
My welcome notice was saying: Approval: 05/01/08.
I don't think one-day-difference is a big deal. Is that right?

5/1 Welcome email
5/5 Welcome Notice (Letter says approval on 5/1/08)
5/28 CPO
7/22 LUD
7/24 Approval Notice Email
7/24 Status: Approval Notice Sent
7/28 Card Received (Resident Since says: 04/30/08)
