Topic: Car - Moving from US to Canada

You can drive with US plates if you are on work permit and get Canadian Insurance just for simplicity purposes.

I dont think there are any issues as long as you follow the procedure.

Topic: Car - Moving from US to Canada

Hello

Sorry couldn't post reply earlier because just logged back into trackitt after long long time.

1. It is not difficult to open an account if you have legal status here. You can do any of the procedures. I left my funds in the US and now transferring every now and then there is no legal restriction. I have account in the US and all my US credit cards are active just in case I have to use them and maintain my credit history there.

2. Yes you can drive with your US plates for 60 days.

3. Yes you can keep US insurance for some time until you get Canadian Insurance. To register a car in Canada you need Canadian insurance byt that time you can use your US Insurance.

I hope this help

Topic: Landing without leaving Canada

I am in Canada on work permit and didn't have my US visa and do not want to do the flagpooling without US visa.

I tried local lending without leaving Canada. I called customer service number (it is really difficult to get them except for Friday). You need you client ID number for that. They said it would take 4 to 6 week to hear back to local CIC office but I recived a letter within two of my call to do the landing in within next two weeks. So I am doing my landing this week. :)

Topic: Car - Moving from US to Canada

Let me share my experience as I moved in January 2010 from the US to Canada on work permit and I was on H1B in the US. Besides that my PR was in process and now I am doing my landing this week.

I resigned from my US employment and had no oppertunity to go back to the US. I purchase a car in December 2009, so the question of owning a car for then 6 months is not relevent for me as it applies to Canadain citizen or PR holders residing abroad.

If you are coming on work permit you are not required to import your car and you can drive your car with US plates and Canadian insurance (there is a technicality of cancelling US insurance keeping US plate - which i avoided by importing my car)

There is a whole list of car which you can import into Canada so just make sure you have one of those cars which you can register here.

First you have to see if your car meet saftey requirement. For that you can see on the following link
http://www.riv.ca/ImportingAVehicle.aspx
You have to have day running light, child teathering, and engine immobilizer (for cars mfg. after 2007).

If you have all these it would be good otherwise you have to made certain changes to get your car registered in Canada.

When you going to import, you have to send title to US Board Portection 72 hours before export (you can send earlier). I didn't have a title because i purcahse new car 1 month before my move so I did my research and provided notrized copy of bill of sale and statement of origin ( make sure you keep the copy of FAQ from US Border protection website because luckily i had copies of it otherwise they wont allow me to export.)

They will stamp your tile on US side and on Canadian side you have to complete Form 1 which is important to have your car registered. You don't need to pay any fee, tax or duties if you are moving in as first time immigrant (work permit or pr). I paid no tax or duties.

Later you have to pay RIV fee which $210 and have to do your safety and emmission inspections and then register your car.

I hope this is help ful. if you have any question related to this process becuase i did alot of research on it because i was purchasing new car and exporting it on at the same time.

Topic: Time Line - PPR After Medical ( Buffalo ,CIC)

Yes you are right re: police and FBI clearance because I heard nomination took forever.

I would suggest you to start Federal Skilled Worker process if you fall under one of those 38 catagories because it wont hurt you. You can continue whoever send you nomination (AINP) or approval (FSW) becasue AINP is slow as hell. I sent my medical in June 09 and nothing happen yet.

Mine took 3 week from FBI under their normal processing because I had no urgency. I have my FBI clearance Dec 2008.

Yes you need state police clearance from each state where you lived for more than 6 months. I am in New York which is very quick in term of timing.

Topic: Visa stamp or I797 for AINP

This is weired you need I797 if someone ask question about your status.

I agree with this post as this is your right to have I 797 bcoz you need I94 for anything to proof your status even in US. You can ask this or ask your employer that you I797 to proof your status for (say) driving license renewal or any other thing.

Topic: moving car from USA to Canada

You already landed in Canada or if you are already there did you disclose your car on your list to follow. If not than you have to pay 6.1% import duties, 5%GST and whatever PST is for your province.

I hope this will help

Topic: Sinors pls comment AINP and FSW pending

I think you should continue with FSW which seems quicker as compare to provincial nomination.....

After nomination you have to send you form to CIC and they will start the process and will send you AOR after 2 -3 months and in FSW you already have AOR.

After nomination you are not obligated to follow that route and you are not required to inform CIC about nomination.

This is my suggestion to you and it is you who should decide about it.

Good luck

I sent them an email couple of times but they sent that standard reply with no helpful info in it. I saw it in another forum about fax number and that is why I sent them fax.

This is helpful information. I will submit my case specific inquiry with them through this link.

Topic: Alberta Provincial Nominee (AINP) and Ontario Job before PR

I am AINP nominee and waiting for my passport request after my medical in June 2009. I got a job infact transferring from New York office to Toronto office of my current employer.

I just want to know how it affect my PR process.

Problem with Alberta job before PR is that they asked for work permit for which one should have a job and for job i need work permit. So in short I can't have job before PR in Alberta.

Topic: Police Clearance Certificate Validity

I got my pre-assessment approved from Alberta last week and I am going to submit my papers and forms for AINP nomination and it would take 60 to 90 days.
My problem here is I got my police clearance from my home country dated October 4, 2008 which is valid for 6 months and I am here in US since last 3 years. In the instruction for provincial immigration from CIC, they required us to submit police clearance issued within 3 months of the application submission date and I am worried because 3 months for my police clearance will be completed on January 4, 2009 and I am not expecting to receive my nomination by that date.

Do i need to get fresh police clearance in that situation? Please advice.
