Topic: Travel on AP

My Green card was approved while I was out of USA. I reentered using my AP with no problems.

I was outside the USA when my green card was approved. I entered the USA on Advance Parole with no problems. You can also Fedex him the card. My attorney said it was OK to Fedex the card but it could not have reached me in time so I just used the AP.

So he should be fine either way.

Topic: NSEERS & Advance Prole

I traveled out of US in March this year and came back mid April. I didn't have to do NSEERS as I was using my AP. I even insisted on getting NSEERS done but the officer told me that it was not required with AP. I did not have any problems reentering the USA.

A lot of people scared me and I almost quit my plans for travel abroad on AP but I am glad I went on the trip as the whole process went very smoothly. People advised me not to use AP since I came to the US on visit Visa, then changed to F-1, then to H-1 and then to AP. All this time (~9 years) I did not travel outside the USA since I didn't have any stamp in the passport.

What I have learned is that if you have all the paperwork with you and if you have never been out of status then it is very safe to travel on AP.

I hope my experience will help people in same situation who have been waiting to visit their families back home.

Topic: PLEASE ADVISE !

You will be able to come back to USA using your AP in case your H1b does not work. When you use AP to reenter then you will need to use your EAD card to work.

Topic: Driver License with Green card

Well the SAVE database still permits them to renew licenses for up to 5 years. But not sure why they are only renewing it for one year. May be its a way for making more money :) I don't mind paying $20 every year, its just the whole hassle of wasting 2 hours in there feeling miserable ...

Here is the link to the new requirements for GA license for non-citizens

Topic: Driver License with Green card

A couple of my friends just emailed me and they had similar experiences. One of them has a green card through marriage and the other is employment based. So I guess I am not the only one.

I have already emailed my lawyer about this and will try to get some explanation about this.

Things are getting ridiculously crazy in USA now. May be its just in Georgia but still .....

Topic: Driver License with Green card

Hi All,

I tried to get my license renewed in Georgia and it was only renewed for a year even though I have a green card now. Initially, the lady at the DMV said that she will have to check my records with the USCIS and that I should come back after a week. But after some arguments she renewed it only for a year.

Is there some new law that prevents even the permanent residents from getting driver licenses?

I was hoping that life would become easier after getting the green card :)

thanks..

Topic: Trivial Scenario : Missing Space In Middle name

My name (first middle last) in my passport is in different order than on my driver license and all other USCIS docs including the recently approved green card. Also, when I got the driver's license in USA, somehow they combined my first and middle name as one word. My lawyer told me that the order of your "names" and spaces don't matter as long as you have all the "names" and letters in there.

So I assume that missing a space should not be an issue as it didn't become an issue for me. But you should always confirm with your lawyer.

Topic: Birth certificate error

USCIS only asks for photocopy. We didn't have original birth certificate for my wife but we had a photocopy. We never had any problems. I would suggest make a lot of photocopies of the corrected birth certificate :)
