Topic: Letter to Barack Obama - Appeal for all Indian Immigrants to USA

Dear Mr. Dhruv:

On behalf of myself, and I'm sure thousands of other immigrants, Thank you for your thoughtful and well prepared statement.

This proposal that you have put forth is reasonable and I'm sure do able if were not for the fact that change, any change in government or governmental process is next to impossible to change because those in a position to effect change are also the ones who have the most to loose in the form or budget and personnel. I'm sure that you understand that there is a great buracracy built around the existing process. Only an extensive overhall of the entire Immigration process which means laws need to be amended and changed. An unlikely event in the President Elects prioritys, for the next two years. This is not to say that bringing forward your thoughts is not a bad idea or unwarranted. Just now is not the time.

Additionally, this country has achieved what it has, by the hard work of hundreds of different nationalitiies. I understand that you have a bias, however, for your thoughts to be recognized they must encumpass a greater diversity than you state. Indians as well as all other nationalities suffer the same indignities that you put forth, many, especially Latino's are even more exploited than you/your nationality.

What is needed is an understandable, deliniated process of immigration, which is blind to nationality, based on a quota system, with no reguard to education, wealth, age, vocation or reason for immigration from thier home country. There will always be a need for Asylum, and other programs that recognize exceptional individuals, however, the mass of immigrants are not of this catagory.

As an American Citizen, who has a friend who has been through this process begining with Asylum and on to Labor Certificatioon and so on, I am aware of all the pitfalls and lawyers who scam and cheat many, many unsuspecting immigrants.

One of the true issues is that Congress itself does not understand the immigration process or the laws that have been enacted for the immigration process. I have contacted members of the House and Senate, and I can assure you that they have NO idea of what the process is or the time frames involved and the cost, not only monetarily but also in dignity. Although the President may initiate such an overhall, it is the congress that has to understand the present process for them to be able to craft legislation to ease the immigration burden.

I sincerely hope that you will go forward with you intentions to communicate with the President Elect, however, I think that your efforts would be better spent informing Congress of the present process and suggest changes that would make immigration a simple and defined process open to all.

Sincerely,

Christopher T. Rau
