Topic: New USCIS Director will be appointed by Obama

Let's just set the record straight, here are Obama's responses to AILA's questionnaire, McCain did not bother answering it:

http://209.85.173.132/search?q=cache:w9psKrUtdb4J:www.aila.org/content/default.aspx%3Fdocid%3D26578+aila+obama&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us&client=firefox-a

The two questions most of you would care about:

10. Would you favor raising the 65,000 cap on high-skilled H-1B temporary work visas, in light of the
fact that in the last two years, H-1B visas were quickly filled in a matter of days?
As part of comprehensive reform, I will consider multiple proposals for increasing access to the
world’s best and brightest to work in America.

36. On what immigration issues will you take leadership?
As president, I am committed to passing comprehensive reform and fixing our immigration
system to ensure that both immigration enforcement and immigration services are better
executed.

And from his website:

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/immigration/

Improve Our Immigration System

•Barack Obama and Joe Biden's Plan
Improve Our Immigration System
Obama and Biden believe we must fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy and increase the number of legal immigrants to keep families together and meet the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill.

Bring People Out of the Shadows
Obama and Biden support a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens.

•Barack Obama's Record
Fix the Bureaucracy: Obama joined Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) to introduce the Citizenship Promotion Act to ensure that immigration application fees are both reasonable and fair. Obama also introduced legislation that passed the Senate to improve the speed and accuracy of FBI background checks.

So let's speculate later and act now, urge him to appoint Sen. Lofgren to the USCIS.

Topic: New USCIS Director will be appointed by Obama

Since Obama is now open for input, let's urge him to nominate congresswoman Zoe Lofgren to head USCIS for his administration. Lofgren has been in congress for over 10 years and has been a true advocate on our side. She even took it up personally with Chertoff and Condi when the July fiasco/debacle took place. We NEED someone like her to lead and fix this messy, senseless system as she has the educational background as well as the experience needed to streamline the system.

Please go to http://www.change.gov and urge Obama to appoint his fellow democrat to this important post, even if legislation takes long to fix the system, having someone like Lofgren in charge from day one can make a difference.

Write your own letter or use the text below.

----------------------------------

Dear President-Elect Obama,

Congratulations on your much-deserved win, I am confident you will do a great job when you become our 44th president.

Although our number one priority is the economy, I would like you to start working on fixing our immigration system and to appoint California Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren to head the USCIS as she has a deep understanding of how badly our immigration system is broken. The Bush administration has made it akmost impossible to immigrate legally to the U.S. by adding red tape, tripling the CIS fees and adding years to a deeply backlogged system.

Rolling back the fees and streamlining the system will allow your administration to reduce backlogs and will allow more skilled workers and families to choose a legal path while the U.S. rips the benefits. A win-win proposition.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Zaraza,

The stock market has been everything but stable, it goes up one day and down the next. Yesterday it was up, today is down. Stock shortselling just resumed after a 30-day banned, volatility is expected... it has very little to do with Obama.

I think we might be onto something good. The Republicans tried hard to make immigrating to the US legally almost impossible by adding red tape, regulations and tripling the fees. They even changed the citizenship test to eliminate more immigrant voters. It is in the best interest of the Democrats to help as many legal and illegal immigrants out as it could translate into more votes.

We now have the best argument to start legislation on back dating our GCs to be able to apply for citizenship and vote in 2012.

Just look at the Hispanic vote, almost 70% of it went to Obama. It is clear they punished the Republicans for the hostile treatment received by them. There is a lot at stake for the Democrats...

Topic: Fingerprints & Medical renewal for July 2007 filers

"WOW what a mess it would be. I cannot see USCIS creating yet more backlog; can you? "

I just know that when it comes to the USCIS, ANYTHING can happen... it would be just another excuse to hold everyone's processing back...

They claim they received double the applications in 2007 as they normally do, but then they doubled or even tripled the fees to provide "better service" and hire more adjudicators to deal with the backlog. I guess they just kept the money, maybe it was used for the bailout! Plus, wouldn't you think that if they had twice the amount of cases, it would take twice the time (with the same resources); yet I-485 used to take 6 months to adjudicate, it is now taking upwards of 18 months if you're lucky, that is triple the time.

At the beginning of the year USCIS decided to extend the validity of fingerprints and medical exams done last year until December 2008. Any news whether it will be extended or whether we need to redo them?

That is why we need to call and let our representatives know, otherwise, they will get their info from those extremists...

FAIR is the most extreme anti-immigrant group, both for legal and illegal immigration. They have lobbied to eliminate H1-B and cut the number of green cards given out every year.

Please visit the link below and TAKE ACTION! These people demonize immigrants and we don't need more politicians to be against common sense just because a few extremists visited them to scare them:
