Topic: Sabbatical question

Hey Blandine: Enjoy your time off! Yes, the specter of a lap dance for Sen Arlen Spector was just too amusing, especially after reading most messages that are understandably gloomy :) I will be taking December off for a trek in Peru in the mountains surrounding Machu Picchu.

Topic: Obama is illegal?

Since everyone is claiming to be a Nostradamus, why not I? After all, I did predict on Sept 12th that "There is a whiff of currants from the oven, and I have a strong feeling that you will be in possession of 'a' card come this Christmas."

So congrats kerstbrd!! 15 years *is* a long wait! Any plans to be in Paramaribo during Christmas?

ble26: You do deserve an extended leave, but make sure you keep your time out of US to LESS than 6 months - it has implications on Naturalization down the line, but more importantly you need to get 'special permission' to be out of the US for more than 6 months. I will post a link if I can find it, but do research into this before you make your bookings.

Good luck! and I still cannot forget your post about tip-toeing on the Congressman's desk. :-)

winetub: Easy for you to say - after all you seem to be swimming in opulence - a tub of wine? :-)

Topic: Moving to another country in the same company during I485

ninja: This is not very pertinent to the thread, but the Iraqi translators were left in the cold till there was pressure in the last couple of months to make the promise good for the Iraqi translators who risked it all to be translators and a shot at being a Citizen of the land of McCain & Palin!!

It seems to matter little to the USCIS whether you can translate from Arabic or even the Dead Sea Scrolls :-)

bestia: Are you in touch with a0217? I believe she is in LA - probably a stone's throw from you. I hope she is on the right track on the MTR, and things are working better for her.

a0217: If you are reading this, please post on your progress. Some of us will be happy to suggest 'ways & means' to reach the finish line.

i am glad i didn't but man...it is...tough.

I regret that I didn't marry a random American girl 8 years ago. Green card isn't worth all this time, money, stress. I honestly do regret.

Marrying a random (aka dumb redneck) American girl is too much of a sacrifice :-)

Topic: updated message can anybody explain what this means...

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred.

The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was **transferred and is now pending** standard processing at a USCIS office.

abhi1: Clearly this is not an approval update (unfortunately!), but an update to you that your case has been transferred from USCIS -> a local office.

Topic: Concurrent Filing 140/485 advantage for EAD (Spouse)

waitandc: You can get an EAD as a derivative benefit after filing AOS (485). You cannot file 485 if the PD is not current => no pending 485, no EAD.

Topic: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident

ANGTAGAL: Congratulations. Normally it takes 1 week to get the physical card. I would suggest you to get an Infopass appointment ASAP, so in the event that you do not get the physical in time, then you can get the I-551 stamped in your passport to enable you to travel outside of the US.
