Topic: GC and Visas
I was trying to explain to someone (with no luck) what the connection was between Visas being current and I485 approvals. Why does a GC approval have anything to do with visas? Isn't a visa a State Dept matter and GCs a DHS matter?
Why can't one get his/her I185 approved regardless of the visa quota? |

Thanks much.
No real tips. Just patience although it was hard to stick to that regimen.
I did call the NSC last week but the IO wasn't helpful at all. I told the IO I was calling b/c I wanted to know come end of June should I renew my H which expires in September or will my I485 get approved by end of June. I just told him I wanted to plan ahead of time. He said it was on an IO desk which I think was a good indication the case was being worked on. A week later it was approved.
If anyone calls I'd suggest asking if your case is already assigned to an IO/ on his/her desk. |

Green is my new favorite color. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who was able to squeeze out an approval before the start of the 3 month approval lull. Wew!
Thanks for all the great advice, folks. You were very helpful and I wish you all get your greens very soon.

If I were you I would go to the U.S consulate in the country you're visiting and schedule an appt to get a visa via your approved H1B. |
Topic: Talked to NSC - No more visa numbers?
One thing I have heard quite a few times from my attorney who has discussed this issue with numerous "in the know" industry folks was that the more people call to check on their files, the slower the approval process goes. NSC is responding to people calling but it's just a PR thing - to show that they are intefacing with the public, and reaching out. But they are not really supposed to do that b/c their job is to review files. If they had the manpower to answer calls then they'd publish the number to everyone. They barely have the manpower to approve files on time not to mention responding to calls.
If they are busy answering calls, that means that they are less focused on doing the work which is reviewing files. Even if we only call once or twice, imagine the flow of calls they get every day when you multiply once/twice by thouands of applicants from coast to coast a day.
Just some food for thought. |
