Topic: SSN for H4 EAD

Hi, My wife got the EAD card just recently. I applied for H1 and her H4 extension along with EAD, all at the same time. I got my reciept for H1 extension and her EAD card, but didn't recieve anything on her H4 extension.

I am planning to apply for SSN for her, but don't know if they will ask for H4 extension document. I can provide H4 EAD but the effective date on that is starting in future (don't ask why, even m not sure). I am confused which document will actually say that she has H4 status rignt now and will have till next 3 years.

Anybody went to SSN office only with EAD card? and was it able to apply for the same?

Thanks in advance

Topic: EAD for H4 Visa Holders

I have a question related to one of the FAQ. I have I140 approved and going for H1B extension (beyond 6 years)+H4EAD at the same time on May 26th. In future, in case I change my employer and my I140 gets revoked, will H4EAD be still valid based on AC21 H1B extension? or do I need to file for my spouse again? .. appreciate any response

you have mentioned here that "But please note that the 90 day period for H4EAD will start only after approval of the H1/H4 extension". Is this information from USCIS website or any FAQ? Can you please provide the source where you got this information. I have not read or heard about this and this concerns me. I always thought that time taken for both H1 extension and H4EAD will be close to 3-4 months.. and not in addition to that.

Isn't that SSN is only for those who are allowed to work. In this case till H4s have the EAD, they are not allowed to file for SSN. How to get SSN then before applying for EAD?

I agree that we need to keep pushing and emails/tweets are definitely helping. But at the same time some of us need to take some decisions and view into some of these tentative timeline and analysis. So that we can take informed/calculated decisions based on realistic expectations. I shared my insight only in case if it helps anybody to take decisions. if it is not helpful to you, please ignore

I did some analysis on Reg.info on historical rules which got published. I looked at those which were at final rule stage and from DHS. Historically, if items are Economically significant = NO and was in final rule stage....ON average they all took close to 5 months to get completed (I took 3 years of data). So we can safely assume that by Early July this be finalized. The good thing is once it is finalised, it should get published within 15 days to a month. So we are taking about End of July when this will be published. This is my prediction so far. Also i have assumed that there will not be any "Extended review period" under OMB. Because in that case it might take close to 8 months instead of 5 (again looked at historical data)

Step 8 on RegInfo.gov says

OMB reviews only those rulemaking actions determined to be "significant."

Step 8 is where the rule is now. How can we make sure that OMB treats this as "significant" ?
