Topic: Please can anybody help, regarding PIO(person of Indian origin) card
-------------
"If you want to get a visa or PIO card from any Indian consulates in US, sending them the original passport is a mandatory"
This is not true, if you are applying my mail. Originals are only required in NY if you are applying in person. By mail. notorized copies are sufficient.
Here is what te website says:
"When sending by mail, only notarized copies of the documents that are required to be submitted with the application may be enclosed. Please do not send original documents unless it is required by us and we have specifically asked for it after the submission of the application. "

We got our son's PIO from the consulate in NY in 1 week by mail last month. We did not have to send any original documents, not even his US passport. |
Topic: Do I need a transit visa in London?
My H1B is still valid until nov 25, 2008....do I still need that transit visa, if I am traveling through London. I have a couple of hours of layover both on the way to and back from Greece.
reading all the rules for the various visa and the criteria for the exemption of some visa on the ukvisa website makes my head spin...
Any help or recent experiences is much appreciated!
personal recent experience (~5 month). If you are not leaving the airport, no need for UK visa wither you have a valid H1 stamp or not this is irrelevant. Actually the only time in your path in the airport you will meet IO (or any body ask about visas) is when you are trying to exit the airport.
If you are a non-US citizen and do not have a valid US visa stamped in your passport (even if you have a valid H1 approval makes no difference) the airlines wont even let you board the flight from US to any country with a stopover in Uk(does not even matter whether or not you disembark from the flight in uk). |

Topic: Can a waiter get a Green Card??
Who said employment takes 5 years to get a GC? How many of us 2001, 2002 or 2003 waiters are still on this forum?
Nowadays it even takes for certain EB2 categories longer than 3 years.
gcardrabbit,
I think you misunderstood my post. I meant you need to wait 5 years to become a US citizen after getting an EB based GC, while you need to wait only 3 years to become a US citizen after getting a GC based on marriage to a US citizen. |
Topic: Can a waiter get a Green Card??
Anyone can get green card. You dont always need education or experience or skills. For e.g. marry an American citizen and you will get a GC within a few months...followed by a US citizenship in 3 years (instead of 5 years for employment based GC holders) |
Topic: Green Card Approved - 06/09/08 - 1 day before EB3 India turns U
Eb3 India turns U only on July 1 and not today. Congratulations by the way !! |
Topic: green card repayment policy
Thank you so much for your perspective!
What is LC and AC21? I do have the job description and the notice numbers.
What happened is that they promised to apply for the GC after one year within me starting working for them; but finally started the whole process 4 years later instead.
I-140 was just approved and 485 was applied for last October. The agreement to stay would be 1 year from the date I receive the actual green card (which I'm told could be another 18 months) so it just seems like a really long committment time. Also it sounds like it's about $10K so not super cheap either.
Can you leave your current employer right before or after your priority date becomes current (but before your I-485 is approved), and be able to avoid the 1 year agreement to stay with them? Do you have to replay irrespective of whether you stay or leave your current employer? |
