Topic: Permanent Resident Since: ... Please update
Sjabiev: I traveled to India and came back a couple of weeks back. No problem what-so-ever. Ignore the "residence since" part on your GC. That is probably one of the most useless stuff on the card. Your actual "residence since" should be the date of your 485 approval (and/or subtract 10 years from the GC expiry date).
Secondly, they dont look at your card seriously at the POE. They just swipe it and let you go ;) No finger printing and no photos. It is so peaceful!!! |
Topic: Surrender I-94 after GC?
I also had three I-94s but all with same number... when I switched between my J and two H visas. My lawyer also asked me to keep them as the I-94s are related to non-immigrant status. And I didnt turn them in. |
Topic: EB1 & Dec VB: Who has the most recent LUDs?
I dont think there is any particular order w.r.to country but in general Eb1B seems to move faster than EB1A with EB1C probably somewhere in between... From what I have noticed in the last year and half. This is for 140 case. For 485, surprisingly, EB1C seems to move much faster than other EB1s. And most of the EB1Cs appear to be Indians... I dont know how they clear namecheck faster but there are some theories around saying that the history of EB1Cs in US is much shorter than others... May be true but I dont know.
In general, I dont think there is any trend at all but mostly random luck... unfortunately. |
Topic: Permanent Resident Since: ... Please update
I got a confirmation from a lawyer that having PD as the Residence since date IS AN ERROR. He suggested that it is my call whether I want to fix it or not. He did say that I should NOT apply for citizenship earlier based on the residence since date.
I am going to ignore the error and move on :) |
Topic: Diff. IO says dfferent things different times: whom to believe?
I, for one, believe not all IOs (information officers and not immigration officers) have same level of access. My case is an example. Most of the time when I called, I was told "backgroud check pending" or "security check pending" or "both internal and external check pending". This was until Nov. 1st week when an IO said "I dont know why your case is still pending" and then she requested my hard copy file for review. She said "not all the people here like the phone calls". I called two days later and luckily got the same person... and I specifically wanted to confirm about my security checks. She said "All checks are clear and I am still waiting for your file". Then I asked her whether she could email me what she finds from my file... She said "I dont have email access but have been requesting one but not getting it". That means, she had more access than others but still didnt have full access, like emails and such. Unfortunately, I didnt ask when my checks were cleared. That would have given me some idea about other people I talked to.
A week later I called, a different person... She said "I dont know what you guys talked last time but your file is waiting to be reviewed by the previous person". A week later I called, and again luckily got the first person... She said "I have forwarded your file to an officer on the 15th" and "good thing it is with an officer and give them 4 - 8 weeks time".
I asked her about visa numbers. She said "I have not done any adjudication and dont have any info. " and she said "even the adjudicating officers can get the numbers only when they are ready to approve", meaning visa number assignment is probably the last step.
I called a day before my approval and I got a guy who said "call once in 30 days" and then said "your file is still with an officer". Next morning, I got approval.
So, there is multiple levels of access. Some people just cannot see what others can see. So, they may just say "security checks are pending" becos they dont see it. There is 50% chance that your checks may indeed be pending. But if you hear "checks are clear" then it is very likely, they are clear. Your file could be held up for some other reasons. |
Topic: Permanent Resident Since: ... Please update
Thanks a lot for the update dude! I havent heard anything from my lawyer yet. I dont see any problem as the card expiry date is alright.
Burkino - Those links were pretty funny!!! I am surprised that USCIS doesnt send out what you should actually look for in your cards, but they do send a nice small envelope saying "recommended to carry your cards in that" !!! |
Topic: Time Taken Between Approval Email and Card Reciept
Question for you: What was your status before Nov. 29th? I would guess it was the same as Dec. 3rd status. Am I correct? I think there is something funny going on. I also had my status revert back to card production from welcome to PR. And then approval notice mailed. I would guess that you are probably approved. But this is pretty scary. Call them up to confirm. |
Topic: Permanent Resident Since: ... Please update
For those who recd. the cards... I dont know whether it is important or not.. May be the experts can pitch in as well.
What should be the "Permanent Resident Since" date on your cards? We got our priority dates but the card is valid for 10 yrs. from the approval date. Wondering what is right and what is not. Appreciate your inputs. |
Topic: to those who just received their Green Cards
Well, I am going to start a thread to get more responses. It may be OK but I want to make sure it is. |
Topic: Time Taken Between Approval Email and Card Reciept
I think there is some differences in the mails generated between NSC and TSC. I noticed that TSC generates: Card production; welcome PR and Card mailed whereas NSC generates (at least in my case): Card ordered (11/27), Welcome PR (11/27) and then Approval notice mailed (11/30). Recd. cards today (12/03). 6 days incl. weekend. Havent recd. approval notices yet. |
